Just Watched the Bret Hart DVD

I like how Jesse Venture shows up during the SNME Rockers match to say "Here comes the technician" when Bret gets tagged in.

I agree with the 'best show on tv' crowd. Plus, it was nice to see Peter Gibbons back on television a few weeks back.

Just Watched the Bret Hart DVD

I bought this yesterday...Ive watched the feature, most bonus promos, and 5 or 6 matches. This was the first time Ive seen One Night Only vs. Taker...really good stuff. For alot of the matches it was the first time Id seen them in years, in some cases since the actual events...vs. Bulldog, Diesel, Owen. After watching the 2 Owen matches I dug up the 'Steel Cage' dvd for that match as well. I dug how Bret would kinda roll his eyes slightly or pause every time he said 'wwe' instead of WWF. The effects of the stroke were noticeable with his quiet speech and some slurring every now and again...but he came off as a very thoughtful, intelligent interview. I would have liked a few more stories of individual matches, but oh well. It was also nice to see that all the bad remarks that were supposedly taped were cut out...leaving us with all well earned praise for Bret, and Bret's own compliments for even HBK and Flair.

    Most non-sensical angles/turns/etc.

I just watched that match again yesterday. When I first saw it I was disappointed...more for the ending than anything else. Watching it again I thought it was at least "****".

    An Eddie Tribute DVD...

Eddie is the only guy whos passed away recently that had a career that could span several discs and sell. I certainly wouldnt mind it.

TNA Comments which don't warrant a thread

I wonder what Jake Roberts, Andre, Warrior, Demolition, Beefcake, DiBiase, Bundy, Savage, HTM etc would think about Hogan making 'all that money by himself' in the 80s...even then he didnt do all the house shows and tours.

    Interesting line from the torch

My stepfather knew of Eddie Guerrero...he hates wrestling and has never watched 10 minutes worth in his life. When family members watch/talk about something alot others (aunts/uncles/siblings/parents) will catch on to certain aspects of it. This is not evidence that these people are popularly known in the mainstream.

    Interesting line from the torch

Rulon Gardner nearly froze to death...that was news for a day or two. I already mentioned the mainstream ignoring boxing (and other sports as well) gold medalists...its not really that big deal outside of those people who really follow sports closely. Whats the numbers on amateur wheightlifters dying young? Because Im guessing some do, and the mainstream news aint covering it...

    Interesting line from the torch

Ask 20 people who dont know any wrestling about 'Kurt Angle' and you will probably get alot of confused looks. He has not been active in the mainstream and his olympic gold didnt get much recognition in 1996. If this is about him, it will not make the Eddie story look 'minor'. Either that assumption by the torch is wrong or it is not Kurt Angle. Angle dying would be really bad for the wwe...but dont expect espn, nbc, and fox news to change their schedule for it too much.

    Interesting line from the torch

There was a story back in the day that Flair got more phone calls/higher rating on the Larry King show than Al Gore (veep at the time)...he is really popular in every market in America and especially so in the SouthEast and Midwest. His death will be pretty big news. Again, HHH is on several mainstream programs giving interviews quite regularly. With no Rock or Austin still active in the wwe, HHH has done almost all the mainstream promo work. He is widely recognixed (by fans and not) as the top guy in wrestling for that past 3 years or so. His death would be both shocking (to the mainstream) and huge news. Angle isnt nearly as recognizable as either Flair or HHH. The only reason his death would be a big sensation with the media is if they do use it as a catalyst to expose pro wrestling. Which is possible. By the way...if an Olympic gold medalist falling off the wagon, falling apart physically, and dying young were the deathkneel to a sport or business then boxing would be long gone. Meldrick Taylor was very popular and is now a wreck, Pernell Whitaker went from a gold, to being among the best fighters ever born, to a sad coke addict, David Reid has vanished. Also, a couple NFL players have dropped dead lately...and the scandal hasnt harmed them just yet. I can see the point about Angle...but the impression that the media will dig deep and make it a big story isnt quite as believable.

    Interesting line from the torch

Despite the family connection, I honestly believe that the lockerroom would be more knowledgable of HHH's health than most. I doubt he would tell his wife or dad that his heart was on the verge of explosion. Im seeing the point about Angle. But Im not certain that the American press would really jump into it as much as some here...if they wanted to investigate this, they could easilly show before/after photos of Eddie's career, but instead most just make lame jokes. Remember, the point of American news is to sell copies or put eyes on the television...a wrestling scandal might not be a viable selling controversy in their eyes. HHH has been on numerous talk shows and such far removed from wrestling, so alot of non-wrestling-followers know of him..thus making his death a more 'notable' event from that point of view. Basically, the question here is, what would be more important to the media...Kurt Angle's death exposing wrestlings dirty lifestyle? or HHH the superstar dying of steroid-realted heart problems? Because, only going by the torch's blurb, this would be something to make Eddie seem "minor". What a depressing, but very important, subject.

    Interesting line from the torch

Just like the 'death watches' for Bob Hope, George Burns, Milton Berle, Johnny Carson, Marlon Brando, etc etc...nobody takes movies or television seriously.

    Interesting line from the torch

Angle wouldnt be much bigger news than Eddie either. The gold medal was ten years ago (and not necessarilly a front page thing in the States). Eddie was really popular with Latinos, thus making his passing more newsworthy than many other wrestlers. Kurt Angle would be as sad but would not make this past week look 'minor'. This isnt to say that Angle might not be in shaky health, it just wouldnt eclipse Eddy Guerrero. The four possibilities, in terms of popularity, would be Austin, Hogan, Flair, HHH. If the report (which points to a current worker) is to believed then its not Hogan or Austin. Im guessing its the one with manboobs(that dont sag).

    Interesting line from the torch

Batista would get less media coverage than Eddie...now that first guy, thatd be some news.
