I want to meet a Packer fan from since the '50s. That guy would have some serious fucking horror stories. Wasn't Nixon at the first game of Lambeau Field?

Bruno Sammartino headlined this day for 7 consecutive years.

Anyone have any info as to how legitimate HBK's severe back injury/surgery that 'retired' him for several years was? I always found it a bit odd that he left right after being forced to pass the torch to Steve Austin and then maded his miraculous return to full-time working not too long after Stone Cold was no longer able to be the regular top guy and The Rock went to Hollywood. With those two guys pretty much gone he was able to return to the ing and work pretty well after not being able to do anything for years. Weird.

I think my head would explode if Green Bay had a losing season. I dont know how folks handled the 50's and 80's.

It wasn't Slaughter that forced the smaller venue change; the company as a whole was in the crapper. They had been selling tickets for the Olympic Stadium almost from the moment WrestleMania 6 was over. Slaughter didn't come back until August and he wasn't in the title picture until January. As far as why it continued past WrestleMania ... WrestleMania was their first match. There was still money to be made from it. They had a several month run and had a series of Persian Gulf (No DQ) matches in the late summer. They usually involved Hogan shooting a fireball in Slaughter's face en route to winning. Another reason is that they just didn't have much top heel talent. Savage was "retired", Dibiase was working with Virgil and hadn't been in the title picture for quite a while ... that leaves us with Slaughter. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its too bad Hennig was buried by Hogan in 1990 then hurt in '91.

Charlie Haas. Give Haas a nice push as a babyface for a few months. Turn Raven against him with the 'RH' wristbands or whatever down the line. That should make for a nice hot feud.

Milwaukee is looking really promising/dangerous right now with Overbay/Lee/Jenkins all hitting the ball well for the first time all year.

This is the most dissapointing rawmvp thread ever.

My prediction from this week - Both Lamont Peterson and John Duddy will fight for world championships one day.
-
For the fight people here, there will be three live boxing cards on cable tv this week. Tonight on ESPN2 - Undefeated lt welter prospect Lamont Peterson (11-0) in his biggest fight so far against journeyman Miguel Angel Torresillas (16-4-1). Also, Ann Wolfe, the woman scheduled to fight a man in a couple months will be fighting a girl who once got tkod by Laila Ali. Thursday on Fox Sports Best Damn Sports Show - Sam Soliman (30-7) the IBF's #1 contender for Jermain Taylors new middleweight title will meet veteran Fernando Zuniga (23-7). Also, Vassily Jirov (35-3) fights 20 year pro Orlin Norris (57-9) in a battle of former cruiserweight champs. Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 - Art Simonyan (14-1) comes off a ko loss to fight former champ Agapito Sanchez (34-11-3) for some sort of super-bantam belt. Ireland's John Duddy (10-0) vs. Patrick Coleman (29-11) in the ten round cofeature. If theres time itll be undefeated heavyweights Malachy Farrell (9-0) vs. Giuseppe Kidd (3-0). The legendary Pernell Whitaker will be live in-studio. Not the best matchups ever but at least its 6 hours of free boxing in 5 days.

Vader tapped out to Owen's sharpshooter? Damn.

Didnt Pat retire on good terms with the company?

It looks like good ol Johnboy Roberts is the guy Bush picked. He favors overturning Roe v. Wade. A nice, compassionate decision...

William Burroughs probably was the smartest writer ever. Somehow, despite his years as a narcotics afficianado, he still spoke with an inteligent eloquence into is 70s. He was like a smaked out Adlai Stevenson.

Big Show should be salvaged with real push as a monster. It should start with feud with Carlito...Carlito gets counted out to retain title, Show chokeslams him off stage, non title match squash for Show. Then he beats everybody til hes a believable main event monster again. Too bad theres not many jobbers left...
-
Im looking forward to the Duddy fight as well. Ive never seen him but hopefully we get another Ward/Hatton-esque guy on American tv.
-
But that wasnt Bockwinkle's fault. He was definitly one of the best heel champs ever, and the template that JBL and HHH have tried and failed to match the last couple of years.

If I recall correctly (considering I didn't see that game firsthand), the referee or something botched a call that pretty much spelled doom for the Giants. I think they get a pass here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, the call at the end was bullshit...but theres still no excuse for NY even letting SF back into that game. Shit was pretty funny though.
