What is that guy up to these days?
-
Why? If one judge wouldn't have given Taylor the 12th, it would have been a draw. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But, another judge (Jerry Roth) somehow gave Hopkins 3 of the first 4 rounds. That was just as bad as Duane Ford giving Taylor the twelfth. It was not a bad decision. Hopkins has been making so many excuses this week about how it was a robbery decision. He didnt deserve to win. Taylor did. Thats what happened. Hopkins didnt land double digit punches in a round until the 9th. Taylor wasnt landing much more, but he was considerably more aggressive and busy in the ring. Taylor got winded down the stretch but Hopkins only came on late because he didnt start boxing until the 9th round. Hopkins says he'll ko Taylor next time...but he couldnt do it here despite the fact that JT was wobbled several times, was cut, had a possible concussion, and was totally gassed. I dont see what Hopkins can do to ko him next time that he couldnt on Saturday night. Hopkins is really showing his age and one more fight against the likes of Taylor could be a potential embarrassment for him. Hopkins really hasnt fought all-out for 12 rounds since the Trinidad fight, and that was 4 years ago. Hes been rather inactive and fought some rather sad opposition. He only boxed one minute per round against Howard Eastman but he got by with it...it didnt work against a young strong guy like Taylor. Hopkins has been showing his age by not boxing enough during fights for several years and it was exploited by Taylor. Hes not getting any younger and Taylor aint getting any weaker or slower for awhile. Hopkins biggest asset in the ring was always his intelligence and savvy and that failed him finally...his strategy of lstarting late didnt work. I dont think Hopkins has the energy or ability anymore to go twelve full rounds...Taylor did it in the biggest fight of his career, with injuries and taking big shots down the stretch. I dont think its even possible for Hopkins to ko Taylor. So, I dont see any way for Hopkins to win the rematch. And, to Lei Tong - Taylor was brought along against a progressively stronger level of opposition that gained him vast experience. He fought a wide range of foes..he saw sluggers, boxers, veterans, young prospects, southpaws, former champs and contenders. He was at the perfect time in his life and career to meet a great champion and he proved my point on Saturday night.

The other dates on this lil tour have either Suprsuckers or Sleater Kinney opneing...but the Gorge will be just Pearl Jam with no opener. Should be a good long set followed by drinking the night away at the campground.

Its too bad its on Saturday nights and I aint got no modern technology. I might be relaxin my social responsibilities for a few weeks so I might be catching a few shows though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You could probably get a used VCR at Goodwill or a pawn shop for about 10 bucks, though. Although seriously, I taped Velocity and actually got to see wrestling matches. That was incredible. Smackdown is pretty bad. The difference is that since it isn't live and it's on a Thursday people aren't in the mood to get together to make fun of it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heh...I have vcrs but Im usually away all weekend and I dont have any timer-recorders or people at home reliable/intelligent enough to push a record button at a certain time. Ill prolly catch it this weekend though, if not then the next.

Im pretty geeked. I just happened to be planning a greyhound ride to Washington that weekend to visit my brother at Fort Lewis...PJ is his fave band, so this is a pretty fun coincidence. Ive never seen them before and Im expecting a good 2-3 hour set at the most beautiful venue in America. PJ - 9/1 Bumbershoot - Rest of the drunken weekend.

I figured they were jsut filming a doc on Bret Hart... Strange that Vince would allow it on such an important evening though.

Another wwe fumble after last Monday's 40-yard pass. Poor Raw...Hogan-HBK was really weak, main event was predictable as Matlock reruns, I again missed the diva stuff, and so much was forgettable. The cage match was alright for the blood and a couple ok spots...but even the marks have to be tiring of Edge vs. Kane. Edge's promo was good though. Hardy angle was cheesy since it was so much more obviously a work this week.

Ill say it - Bernard Hopkins should retire now. Dont fight Taylor again.

Verne Gagne...WCW...TNA...when will wrestling companies ever learn to not shove worthless shit down their customers' throats?

Am I the only person here that thought By the Way was a really god album both musically and vocally, with the exception of Keidas on "The Televison Song?" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. By The Way is my favorite RHCP record.

I remember that thread. You entertained me for several days. And back to how quickness OBVIOUSLY makes music worse, Led Zeppelin's debut was done in less than two days, same for Black Sabbath's debut. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Neil Young wrote "Cinnamon Girl", "Cowgirl in the Sand", and "Down by the River" from Everybody Knows this is Nowhere in one afternoon...in bed with a hundred and three degree fever. My former guitarist and I wrote a 15 minute 8-part suite in one night. I think Bob Dylan recorded "Like a Rolling Stone" in a day but Im not sure. Not musical, but Jack Kerouac wrote 'On The Road' in 3 weeks. Its really a matter of inspiration, classic material doesnt have to take time. Oh well, angora is clearly 12 and hasnt branched away from mtv, radio and what a couple websites tell him.

Nope. The same tired "conscious" subject matter is just as cliche as bankroll raps. Babies crying cuz they hungry, why we mistreat our women, why the presadent got money fa war but aint got money to feed us. Song after song of fucking whining, and when solutions are mentioned it's usually about some knee jerk socialism. Then, more often than not, there's always the one commercial single off the album which contradicts every single other song. I'd rather listen to chingy, at least he's not egregiously self righteous. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Again, dont get all your rap from mtv/radio.
-
Unfortunately, the mainstream record buying public.... who are people I hold to the same esteem as folks who wont give a certain kind of music even a chance. People who dont like rap based on borrowed opinions and a lack of knowledge on artists off radio/mtv. MTV rap like Chingy etc is terrible...but intelligent rap like Kanye, Roots, Saul Williams, Lyrics Born, etc is definitly music and a very important artistic part of our generations culture.

Cage matches always lure me to the tv...

Brewers play the Cardinals now and Im a bit nervous for that. Milwaukee has looked pretty good lately...before the AS break the won a roadtrip through Florida and Atlanta and after the break they won 3 of 4 against the Nationals. Now its time to play the best team in both the division and the league (maybe all of baseball)...

Kane vs. Edge Steel Cage... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that confirmed?

Ill echo the Janes Addiction and Oasis mentions. There seemed like a lot of promising 90s bands that fizzled out with the alt-movement after just one record or so(I am very partial to this era). Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Live, etc all dissapeared to the bar/club/fair circuit after recording some good tracks. Im sure Porno for Pyros could have made some more good music as well.

And Dre gets about 250 grand per song. Since this shits so easy, the kid that started this thread should bathing in cash.

Learn To Fly is a better pop song than anything Rivers Cuomo has ever done...and I say this because 'the perfect pop song' is Rivers' obsession and Dave Grohl doesnt seem like hes really trying all too hard.
