Since the Johnson-Tarver thread seemed to spark some discussion of this fight I thought Id start a thread for it a few days early. Whos planning to watch this? Any opinions? Mismatch or upset? Heres the official TV card: 12 Rounds - WBC Super Lightweight Championship: Arturo "Thunder" Gatti WBC Super Lightweight Champion Jersey City, NJ 39-6, 30 KOs vs. "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Jr. WBC #1 Super Lightweight Las Vegas, NV 33-0, 22 KOs 12 Rounds - WBA Junior Welterweight Championship: Vivian Harris Brooklyn, NY 25-1-1, 17 KOs vs. Carlos Maussa Monteria Columbia 18-2, 16 KOs (This could be a very good fight...winner presumably gets the winner of the main event. Harris had to be restrained from Floyd at todays press conference) 6 Rounds - Junior Welterweight: Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. Culiacán, Mexico 19-0, 14 KOs vs. Ruben Galvan Hammond IN 21-6-2, 9 kos (Jr's toughest test thus far. Galvan has gone the distance with Jorge Paez, Dimitry Salita, and Paul Spadafora. His 6th pro fight was a ten round loss to Marty Jakubowski) 12 Rounds - WBO Minimumweight Championship: Ivan Calderon Guaynabo, PR 22-0, 5 KOs vs. Gerardo Verde Mexico City 13-1, 10 KOs

The Hopkins-Taylor match will be more evenly matched, but wont have the same kind of drama as this fight had. Im getting flashbacks of Chavez-Taylor with the upcoming Hopkins-Taylor fight...

I agree with HTG. The 'you sold out' heat will only add to his overness as a heel. If he comes back you have the shock value of his return, his history adding to his charismsa for a boatload of heat, and another good worker for the main event. He can still be a monster fucking heel, and now even moreso because of what he did by leaving.

This guy just cant find his way to the pasture...graze you old bastard!

Motion City is worth the ticket alone... Did you get to see them Damaramu?

So you thought it was worth the 45$?...or did you split that cost with others?

Mayweather tortures Gatti! By Matt Richardson and Ryan Mickendrow at ringside Undefeated Floyd Mayweather seized the WBC super lightweight title by stopping Arturo "Thunder" Gatti at the end of round six with a dominating, virtuoso performance Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Mayweather (34-0, 23 KOs) floored Gatti in round one while Gatti was distracted expecting referee Earl Morton to step in. Floyd's hand speed allowed him to pick apart Gatti at will with hard shots. Gatti's right eye was swelling badly by round three. Round four was completely one-sided as Gatti (38-7, 29 KOs) continued to absorb punishment. The beating continued in rounds five and six, after which Gatti's corner stopped the bout. Well, I was off by 2 rounds.

Im not so sure the Brewers are still a farm-system for NY/Boston/Chi/LA, the new owner seems commited. But Lyle Overbay might be expendable with the recent successes of Bill Hall, Richie Weeks, and Prince Fielder.

He's also an 'expert' on psychology. No one else. Just him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He didn't exactly say that though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know about you, but that's what I took from his, "I know the history of psychiatry. You don't," comment. Don't look for compliments here, either. I have NOTHING good to say about scientologists......... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But you dont know...Tom Cruise does.

Maussa KOs Harris! By Matt Richardson and Ryan Mickendrow at ringside Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ: Unheralded Carlos Maussa shockingly dethroned WBA junior welterweight champion Vivian Harris with a spectacular seventh round knockout. Harris (25-2-1, 17 KOs), looking to make a statement, immediately connected with a buge right hand and connected with some huge shots over the first few rounds. The awkward Maussa (19-2, 16 KOs) demonstrated a world class chin and also dished out some hard wild shots that connected. Harris, however, began to tire and in round seven while Maussa came on, finally landing a big left hook to knock Harris out. Time was :43. Harris stated after the fight that he will exercise a rematch clause. -Fightnews.com This happened to undefeated prospect Jeffrey Resto a couple years ago on ESPN2. Maussa was apparently looked over again...hes a VERY dangerous fighter. Harris' mouth is shut and hes out of the 140 pound sweepstakes.

Bring Brock back would presumably be very good for business...but lately Vince has had a difficult time doing anything right for the business. With Brock back there could be several main-event feuds and angles, another good worker, and something exciting and new that the WWe desperately needs. With the way he left, he could be even more over as a heel. Im assuming that his contract will be restructured somewhat...probably a paycut in exchange for a few less days on the road. He should be brought back and he can really do alot of good for wrestling...but will Vince fuck it up, again?

More from Fightnews.com By Matt Richardson and Ryan Mickendrow at ringside Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City: Unbeaten WBO minimumweight champion Ivan Calderon (22-0, 5 KOs) won a twelve round decision over Gerardo Verde (13-1, 10 KOs) to retain his title for the seventh time. Verde came on in the closing rounds but it was too little, too late. Calderon won 117-111, 117-111, 115-113. Junior welterweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (20-0, 15 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over Ruban Galvan (21-6-2, 9 KOs). Chavez staggered Galvan in round one, but Galvan came back was very competitive in rounds two and three. Chavez dropped Galvan in round four and had Galvan in all kinds of trouble until Galvan's corner threw in the towel. Time was 2:22. Galvan was Chavez' most credible opponent to date.

Anyone watching this? I decided not to spend the 45$...Gatti's weight firmed my final prediction - Mayweather by KO8. Off-TV results, courtesy Fightnews.com By Matt Richardson and Ryan Mickendrow at ringside All the off-TV bouts are in the books at the sold out Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Topping the non-televised portion of the Gatti-Mayweather card, was undefeated heavyweight contender Calvin Brock, who moved to 26-0 with 20 KOs after an impressive fourth round destruction of Kenny Craven (26-15, 22 KOs). After Brock dropped Craven earlier in the round, referee Eddie Cotton stopped the fight with Craven taking heavy punishment in the corner. Time was 2:34. Unbeaten junior middleweight Giovanni Lorenzo (18-0, 10 KOs) pounded out an eight round unanimous decision over veteran Ronald Weaver (29-16-2, 22 KOs). Scores were 79-73, 78-74, 77-75. Welterweight KO artist Joel Julio easily kept his unbeaten record intact. Julio (19-0, 18 KOs) knocked out Art Medina (12-15, 5 KOs) at 2:56 of round one. Medina was down twice. Welterweight Henry Crawford (7-0, 2 KOs) needed just 94 seconds to annihilate Fernando Jimenez (3-6-2, 2 KOs). Junior welterweight Wes Ferguson (10-1-1, 3 KOs) shut out John Temple (6-10-2, 1 KO) over four rounds 40-36 on all cards.

I agree with Damaramu...it seems like the bigger the show, the more retards get involved in the pit. I was at a Sevendust show last year and some idiot tried picking a fight with me in the mosh....so I gave a big hiptoss and yelled at him to not pick fights while he was trying to get off the floor and scurry away, that was neat. Im thinkin about goin to the Warped tour stop in Minneapolis, but the lineup is kinda lacking. Pollstar doesnt list Motion City Soundtrack (which is weird as theyre a hometown band) or Tsunami Bomb (who I saw at my local club and thought were hugely awesome). Well, nevermind...I guess that MCS is playing Minneapolis, but no Tsunami Bomb.

I think the later Pumpkins stuff (Adore, Machina) is terribly underrated. It seems like the same thing as Pearl Jam ("it sucks cuz its not Jeremy", "it sucks cuz its not Today") with their more recent releases. To Sheila, Perfect, Stand Inside Your Love, Try Try Try, Age of Innocence, and others were really great songs.

Who has these wins over Andre? Im pretty sure he did do too many jobs pre-WM3...
-
Tom Cruise really knows his stuff.
-
Im sure HHH wouldnt mind headlining a handful of ppvs with clean wins over Big Show.

Its good that, even with all of Kerry's mentions of the lack of Homeland Security and the Republican parties gung-ho patriotism, this particular non-issue is a huge priority. I mean why work towards checking all incoming packages and repairing our education system when we can boggle our minds and time with an ammendment that will effect a handful of retards with lighters. Dumb.
