    Heavyweight PPV

IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd sucessfully defended his title with a twelve round split decision over Jameel McCline Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The 270lb McCline, who came into the ring with a 56lb advantage advantage, dropped Byrd with a right hand at the end of round two and tried to take Byrd out with an all out assault in round three, however Byrd weathered the storm. By round four, however, McCline began to slow down although he continued to pound on the champion. By round seven, Byrd's quickness became more of a factor as he began to pepper the rapidly tiring McCline with combinations through round nine. McCline had a good round ten, trapping Byrd on the ropes and connecting with some hard shots. Byrd came back in the eleventh and rocked McCline then won round twelve, also. Scores were 114-112 McCline, 115-112, 114-113 Byrd. -fightnews.com Damn, thats 3 close/controversial decision wins in a row for Byrd...

Byrd-Mcline up now...IBF title... Who would have guessed a few years ago that Andrew Golota vs. John Ruiz would headline a major ppv?

    Best hyped PPVs?

I thought the build for X-7 was rather poor...but the actual show was incredibly good. Id say that Starrcade 97 had the best hype...which was matched by the worst end result in wrestling ppv history.

boxrec reported that Hasim looked to be in great shape...this true Jimmy? was the Donald-Holy fight entertaining? Or just another beatdown of a faded sad legend?

Former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman scored a fourth round TKO over Kali Meehan in a WBC/WBA eliminator Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Rahman took over in round two and gave Meehan a serious beating until Meehan's corner finally stopped the carnage after Meehan wobbled back to his corner after taking some serious punishment in round four. -fightnews.com

Youre watching Jimmy? Apparently the Donald-Holy fight was for something called the NABC belt...whatever. Hasim Rachman v Bonecrusher Meehan up now...Hasim is one of my favorite fighters.

Donald beats up Holy... Former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield was easily outpointed by Larry Donald Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Donald was simply too young, too fast and too good for the faded ring legend as he landed hard combinations almost at will. Holyfield was only able to muster one shot at a time, but showed fight fans one short glimmer of his former briliance when he rocked Donald in the tenth. Unforunately for Evander, he didn't have the energy to follow up. Donald took the last two rounds and won 119-109, 119-109, 118-109. Donald improves to 42-3-2 with 24 KOs. Holyfield falls to 38-8-2 with 25 KOs. He has now just won two of his last nine. -fightnews.com Please Evander, retire.

Why do I have this terrible stomach ache?

I voted for Jersey...place always makes my stomach burn and my eyes cry.

I thought he lost decisions to both Oquendo and Golota...but he got the judges nod. The Oquenda fight was abysmally boring, but vs. Golota was a FOTY candidate.

    Heavyweight PPV

These fights are somewhat necessary though...the current heavyweight division is so wide-open. Fights like these are needed to see who really is #1. The past year or two has seen so many upsets, retirements, title changes, comebacks, and prospects that there is no legitimate/undisputed champ or top-10. Vitali is probably #1...but hes fighting Danny Williams in december, so that should prove little. For a better overall boxing ppv - check out Morales-Barrera 3 in a couple weeks. I will probably have a preview of that posted here in a week or so.

Cheney in hospital for shortness of breath

Get well soon. Im avoiding much discussion of possible replacements for Cheney if his health worsens...I dont feel that such talk is fair or tasteful. I personally wish he would be in shape for a run in '08 (I disagree with much of his opinions but he is an exceptionally good debater and campaigner), but unfortunately that is very doubtful.

    New Years Concerts

Of course, cause nobody gives a shit if they play for four hours straight cause most of the crowd is blazed out of their head anyway. I dont know too many radio bands that can play for several hours in a party atmosphere...a few can, but the 'jam bands' tend to fit the bill perfectly. Too bad theres no word of Modest Mouse, The Dead, Trey Anastasio, Tool, Damien Rice, U2, Beck, or Mike Patton doing some sort of NYE show...
