Who has ever advocating smoking away in public? The idea is that people should be able to smoke if they choose in their own homes. With doctors wanting it, and states voting for it, it should be of medical use without fear of a Federal raid. Nobody is advocating smoking in Wal-Marts and blowing hits in passersby's faces.

Why is the marijuana factor's impact on this so incredibly hard to grasp? 1) If they aren't in prison it would free alot of room. Prisoners wouldnt have to share their cells with gay rapists. Monitoring would be easier with less people to watch & without people sharing cells. 2) Less money spent (it's billions) policing plant smokers would free the funds up for more guards, more closed circuit monitoring, more rehabilitation rather than grotesque retribution. 3) Marijuana is one of the biggest focuses of law enforcement. The 'criminals' are easy to catch & will often go along willingly, the lobbies pushing for its continued criminalization is massive, etc. If law enforcement didnt have to focus on it, at all, they could focus entirely on actual crimes & victims. Seriously, this isn't about getting high. It's about fixing our legal and jail system & the fastest and simplest way to both free up funds & attention is the decriminalization of marijuana. But I guess it's just easier to say that's Jerry Garcia nonsense and only hippies say we shouldn't waste Billions hunting smokers down.

Don't make a bigger fool of yourself, Ripper. Marijuana users make up a big percentage of prisoners. Even small time users can end up doing time. Nobody has died from, it makes nobody violent, doctors want it legal, states are passing referendums. But you don't even think they go to prson so you're clearly showing your depth of the knowledge on the subject.

Marvin, 1) Marijuana users go to prison. That shouldn't have been so hard for you to figure out from my post but, considering your breathing comes solely from the mouth, I'll let it pass. 2) Don't talk about anything that involves any sexual organs.

I'm not sure how much can be done about something like this without a drastic shift in a small but dangerous mindset of certain peoples. The small-balled statements of people like MikeSC or Bob Knight foster the quiet allowing of everyday rape occurances. The weak-willed politicians allow marijuana users to go to prison for no better reasons than it prevents legislators from admittin a mistake and prevents alcohol/tobacco/pharmaceutical lobbies from losing cash...and it is the same pathetic lack of will, of morals, that allows these occurances to go on inside American prisons. A massive change in thinking of people, a change that I dont see forthcoming due to either the slimey minds and nature of the disgusting or utter lack of courage towards doing the right thing in the face of lost political contributions, is necessitated before our prison systems are changed & before they become places where harmless marijuana smokers are not the primary dwellers. The evil within those that commit rape is the last thing that can probably ever disappear but the allowing of it can stop. I just have my doubts as to whether it will.
