VX, the Lakers went away from Shaq for almost the entire 3rd quarter. I am not a Shaq fan by any means, and I agree with you that he is not normally the strong point of their offense anymore, but in this series he is. The Pistons defense is limiting the opportunities for Kobe to attack the basket, and he is not taking the ones that do arise... instead he's settling for well contested jumpers. And as far as the rest of the team getting nervous to make their shots, they're not going inside and back out. The wrong players are creating shots for each other. Fisher should not be creating opportunities for Malone and Rush. The open shots for the role players should come from Kobe's penetration or Shaq in the post. The Lakers need to start out taking what Detroit gives them. If they're going to let Shaq get his, then go to Shaq until they try to stop him. If that means he scores 70, so be it. But with the Lakers weapons they should always have at least one option on every possession.

Well, the Pistons proved me absolutely wrong, my hat's off to them. Billups was the high-scorer... Prince embarrased George... Hunter was all over Fisher. Considering the magnitude, that was the worst offensive game Kobe's had in the playoffs. Also, the Lakers went away from Shaq way too much... and that's the one thing Detroit did not force. I expect 40, maybe 50, from Shaq in Game 2.

Well L.A. is a bandwagon town essentially, like wrestling marks. If the Clippers got good, they'd be popular. Dodger popularity is based on their winning, or losing, streak. Oh and Trojan fans are now coming out of the woodwork, but UCLA splits the fanbase. I hate non-school affiliated Trojan fans though. The Lakers, obviously, are #1.

Did I just read Piston-player names and "score" in the same sentence? I disagree that Billups>Payton. Chauncey is good for 2-3 3-pointers...but he's Detroit's worst defender and he sucks at running their "offense". I do agree about Lindsey Hunter though.

3 x-factors for the Pistons... Can Darvin Ham become an effective Kobe-stopper? Does Rasheed Wallace have it in him to drop his typical bullshit and score 35-40 a game? Will Elden Campbell wake up and have the series of a lifetime against his old teammate? If Detroit does those things, they'll take it. But I predict a Lakers sweep. As it stands currently, at least 3 of LA's starters are better: Kobe, Shaq, and GP. Rasheed is better than Malone. Prince & George are all about confidence, but Tayshaun most likely has the edge. Jackson is the better coach and LA has more depth. Lakers in 4.

I went to St. Francis... man, Hart used to give us fits in the playoffs. I'm so glad Rush and Slava (a couple of my guys) came through... although George stunk up the place. KG gets all the credit in the world, a class act. Sam Cassell needs to quiet down about his injuries though. They played a huge part, but Cassell being there would have changed the dynamic...and, the Lakers got bitched in Game 5 with no Cassell so you can't just make excuses for losses especially when you prove you can win. The Wolves will be back without a doubt.
