One and Only "ECW: One Night Stand" Thread
Angle-plex replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in The WWE Folder
Fun show. Benoit and Eddy have NEVER has chemistry together, even back when Black Tiger/Wild Pegusus faced off, so I didn't expect anything out of them. Mike Awesome GLADLY proved me wrong; he can still go. As for Tanaka....SIGN HIM RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!! The guy can just work a match. The first three matches were "alright" but this show wasn't really about the matches. Heyman's shoot was great. WAY too much WWE stuff for my taste. What was with showing BRADSHAW'S reaction to every move in the Tanaka/Awesome match? The production and camera work were way too WWE like too, but it was expected. Lots of mark out moments make this a thumbs up PPV for now, but a few weeks down the line I think we'll look back on this show and say it was only decent. -
The Cena/Xtian/Jericho was stuff was real good, and the ECW stuff was OK, but the rest of the show was hard to sit through, and the Batista/Hunter feud SUCKS. Whoever is writing the script for that feud must have some watching some cheesy B-movie or something.
-
I think they'll start off with a pretty big name tonight. Angle , RVD, or Undertaker would be the best choices. RVD because he can promote the ECW PPV, Undertaker because of his "shocking" entrance, and Angle to get him away from the god awful rape feud on Smackdown.

PWtorch is saying that Taz will be on commentary with Joey.

The OAO WWE Progress Discussion: Year-Half Edition
Angle-plex replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in The WWE Folder
Best Worker Kurt Angle. Between Angle and Benjamin, but I think Angle edge's out the win. Shelton's been good, but the only memorable match he's had since January was against Shawn. Most Improved Christian. Maybe not in the ring, but his promos and delivery have truely impressed me lately. Spot of the Year Superkick to Benjamin on RAW. Biggest Dissapointment Eddie-Rey WM XXI Wasn't expecting a ***** match, but I was expecting something better than what we got. Most Fun Match Honestly....the match I was most into this whole year was (don't kill me) Undertaker vs Orton. A lot of near falls - I was actually convinced late into the match that Taker was losing it. Best Match Angle/Shawn Mania XXI. Shawn/Benjamin was REALLY good though. Funniest Moment Christian's Cena diss when Mcmahon announced the draft on RAW. Best PPV WrestleMania XXI was the only one I've seen, although I was somewhat dissapointed in it as an overall show. -
Batista's chances of winning the Cell match are better than his chances of being viewed as a succesful champion. He can beat Triple H all he wants - it's not going to matter unless he's the focus of the shows.
-
Shelton has had what may be the most worthless IC Title reign in the history of wrestling. Here is a guy who has had the title for MONTHS, and hasn't been in one feud revolving around the title yet, with an exception of a weak feud with Jericho that was seemingly dropped after RAW this week. If Benjamin has an actual FEUD, maybe he can start developing a character. Maybe he'll be ready for the main events after that.

ECW One Night Stand matches announced
Angle-plex replied to WrestlingFan4Ever's topic in The WWE Folder
How many fans are honestly going to order than before just because it was announced that MAVEN and GENE SNITSKY are going to be there? I'm almost definetly NOT going to order the show just because of the build up to this "ECW" PPV. It's basically just going to be the same shitty show every WWE PPV since 2002 has been but under the ECW name. -
The whole thing is botched anyways. The PPV is supposed to be a nostalgic, feel-good event for the ECW fanbase that was loyal to the product throughout it's history. Instead, it will be the same shitty WWE pay per view that we have seen over and over for the past four years covered up by an ECW name. The whole RAW/SD invasion concept is ridiculous. What's the point? They don't expect the ECW name to sell on it's own, so they are going to help the buyrate by bringing in a bunch of jobbers? Are people that are considering ordering the show really saying "I liked ECW, but will this be the real thing? Should I order? Oh wait....you mean SNITSKY and MAVEN will be there? Oh man, you couldn't STOP me from ordering.". Not to mention that on the RAW invaders team is Lita and Snitsky, the man who killed her unborn child. I guess she forgave him? Or maybe the whole thing was a plan so she wouldn't have Kane's baby? Were Lita and Snitsky in cahoots? HUGE storyline possibilities there...

Ok, I'm just trying to understand why this group was made in the first place. So they want the title for the spotlight, they want to spotlight for the power, they want the power so that they can remain in the spotlight? And they want to remain in the spotlight for money and fame, correct? I really like all the directions that this can go though. A straight power struggle between the new guys and the Kings would work at this point, but there are a lot of possible twists that could occur as well. Especially with Angle, who, like you said, doesn't fit in the old or new guard real well.

Very interesting idea. There are a few flaws in it, but there would still be time to fix anything that needed it. Two complaints; the first is the inclusion of Bradshaw. It's the only part of the whole story that's pretty weak, and, honestly, they don't really need him. Taker, Angle, Triple H, HBK, and Flair are viewed as THE top guys in the Federation, and Bradshaw, to me, drags them down a bit. If a sixth man is needed (it isn't), then Nash would be a better choice. He fits in with the group much better, and everyone knows of his political games he's played in the past. Second; Triple H is a character that NEEDS the title. I have a hard time believing that any of these guys wouldn't care as much if a member of this group had the title as opposed to someone else. What's the difference to Trips if HBK or Batista has the belt? I'd assume he's going to want it just as much either way. By the very "rules" of this group, it's just begging for an implosion, which may or not be what's coming.
-
The segment wasn't pointless in that it made Batista look dominant, but I have a hard time getting behind a guy that annihilates guys half his size and slams another guy's face into concrete repeatedly. It also made it look like Batista has some serious anger issues, which is the complete opposite of what got him over in the first place.
-
The whole face/heel dynamic in the HHH/Batista feud puzzles me. Hunter is playing the strong, fearless role who feels he should have the title and is looking FOWARD to the cell match to get his hands on the guy that has "his" belt. Batista, on the other hand, tried to kill a guy AND his small, defensless manager for basically no reason. Um....Yay? Go Batista?
-
Does this segment blow or what? Every week Masters gets on the main show, and every week he gets no reaction. This week he knocked out Val Venis. Wow! I care about him now! All this guy has done so far in his WWE tenure is knock out a jobber (Steven Richards), another jobber (Val Venis), and a bunch of people IN THE AUDIENCE. Am I supposed to be impressed? I feel like I've seen the same segment every week for the past three months. They are building the eventual blowoff to this angle up like Sting/Hogan and I just don't have the patience for it. I'm pretty much ready for Masters to be in, you know, a real feud. So with that, who would you put Masters in a feud with? Personally, I would pick the other worthless sack that gets TV time despite his non-reactions: Viscera. It would have a certain train-wreck appeal that would work while not sending anyone worth a damn down to Master's level.
-
Did that ending seriously just happen?
-
Why would Lita agree to put herself in danger for this? For what reason? Is this Jobber Title Shot night or something? Why do these guys keep getting title shots, and what did they do to earn them? Didn't Grenier just lose his match last week?
-
I almost expect J.R. to say that the huge non-reaction after Triple H said "Hell in A Cell" last week was because nobody in the audience could figure out what he meant by it.

Well actually, after Angle loses to Sharmell next week, I'd consider being choked out by a short, fat announcer a step up, but your point is still valid. -
ECW: Is it the future brand of pro wrestling?
Angle-plex replied to iliketurtles's topic in The WWE Folder
No - It had a chance to be if they played their cards right, but it was all ruined Monday on RAW after Vince publicly announced that he is the real owner of ECW, followed by the Benoit/Tajiri WWE Hardcore Match that was supposed to be a preview of what we will see at One Night Stand. Wow that was stupid. -
People repeating any type of movie quote they've heard in a pathetic attempt to be funny. 99% of the population has HORRIBLE delivery of movie lines and it's almost NEVER funny. Yeah, that and unloyal friends.
-
Not to mention that the man that Hunter is help "making", Batista, is basically in failure levels at this point. Cena's doing much better with his reign, which may be because he is being booked as the focal point of all the Smackdown shows.

ECW One Night Stand matches announced
Angle-plex replied to WrestlingFan4Ever's topic in The WWE Folder
My main problem with an Eddie vs Benoit match is that it doesn't feel "special" like all the matches on this show should. With the exception of that match we haven't seen any of these matches in WWE ever (probably Storm vs Jericho, but it was meaningless and four years ago, plus Storm isn't recognized as a "WWE" guy). It feels like we could see an Eddie/Benoit match any week on an episode of RAW or Smackdown. -
Speaking of ShopZone... ...could anyone actually sleep with THIS?

I really like the Battle Royal finish, but Angle really should have went after Taz or Cena next week instead instead of a non-wrestler. -
Trips challenging Batista really sucks for Batista. The only things he can do are say "no" again and look like a coward or give Trips ANOTHER match and look like even a bigger fool than he already does for falling for Flair's trick. They always book it to show that Hunter is up for any challenge, but Batista is almost a failure as champion and they can't afford to keep making mistakes with his title reign.
