  1. I seem to recall hearing that you could get a new password after each of the Wily stages in most of the games.

Pressing select mid-game gives you the password. I haven't tried any of them yet, though. But they all seem to be different for each Wily-boss stage.

  2. Dear Damaramu,

first of all let's make one thing clear: That man is disgustingly obese.

Second of all: I find it ironic that you question our use of freedom of speech and then talk about how it is a great thing and how Moore is using it.

I, personally (meaning that I'm not speaking for Mike SC, who can be very funny but whom I usually don't agree with), make fun of Michael Moore because he's the epitome of a 15 year old on Indy-Media.

He slings around powerful ideas, subjects that command a certain ammount of respect and calm contemplation like a chimp would throw his feces. He makes no good points, he only points out problems but offers no sollutions. In the end he's the fat, sub-urban (in his case stinking rich) kid who posts inanity after inanity on the internet.

In short: He's a bully, he's full of shit and he's pretty much abusing the term "documentary". I don't personally like him and I guess that making fun of him makes me feel better about the whole deal. Because he can never deny that he's close to being fat enough to be classified as a sea-mammal, the kind that can only sustain and support its massive body in the water.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    The Hero to all Children.

Funny how the only thing that you can offer up is dissing him for being fat. Sounds like a little feces flinging of your own there, chief.

Way of the Samurai 2 Updated Hands-On Impressions

Though we just took a look at Way of the Samurai 2 at E3 last week, we recently sat down to check out the game properly (in a quieter environment, in other words). After a brief play through the initial part of the game, we found a pretty enticing mixture of surprisingly deep combat and some interesting adventure-like mechanics as well.

You'll begin Way of the Samurai 2 by customizing and naming a ronin--a masterless samurai--and then stumbling into the beleaguered village of Amahara. Our samurai defaulted to the name "Mifune," and we were able to select from a handful of heads and dress styles to modify our character's appearance a bit. Though only three of each head and dress style were on offer to begin with, there were empty slots in the select screen, so presumably you'll be able to unlock more in case you play through the game more than once. We also had the option to choose various swords and items, but since this was our first time we had to go with the default sword. Again, it seems like you'll be able to open up new items for use with a new character as you play through the game on your initial run.

The basic setup of the game is pretty straightforward. You're presented with a static map of Amahara. With this map you can move a cursor around to different locations, such as various neighborhoods and the local magistrate's office, and then jump straight to them. Each location is populated by a smattering of hapless townspeople as well as agents of Amahara's two opposing factions, the magistrate's office and the Aoto gang. You'll be able to talk to these people to gain clues about what's going on with the political climate, and they will also let you know of tasks that will earn you money. We even wandered into a local restaurant and ate a meal to replenish our strength. Then, dishonorably, we fled from the building without paying (We had no money!) and disappeared into the night.

Way of the Samurai 2's storyline is spread out over a period of 10 days, and time will actually pass fluidly as you play. One day is broken up into five time periods, starting with early morning and ending with late evening. A small flower indicator is located on your HUD, and you can tell how deep into the current time period you are by how many petals are left on the flower. When you're about to roll over to a new time period, a petal will light up to indicate the change. This time passage will probably figure into the events of the storyline, though we'll have to play more before we can say exactly how this will happen.

The combat mechanics in the game are a little more complex than we had been able to observe at E3. In addition to the standard horizontal and vertical slashes, blocking, and throwing, you'll be able to parry incoming enemy attacks by hitting the block button and the right direction on the stick (based on the enemy's swing). If you parry successfully and you're quick enough, you'll be able to deliver a powerful attack to your defenseless enemy. You can also do a guard-break attack that will neutralize the enemy's block, although this move takes a long time to execute and leaves you open to attack in the meantime, so you'll have to use it strategically and sparingly.

Way of the Samurai 2 surprised us with its interesting storyline and accessible combat. The game has an appealing, open-ended feel that made us want to explore Amahara and see exactly what we could find (and who we could fight). The game is due out in June, and we'll bring you more on it in the coming weeks.

    Anyone else psyched?

  4. Ok, so I picked up the game for $37 Canadian from Wal-Mart while replacing a broken microwave. Take that, overpricing Future Shop! I went with the PS2 version.

Huh, interesting. The stupid French paper that is packaged with the Canadian box says it has the creator interview, but when removed, the actual box says footage from the TV series. I knew this already (although I thought the history piece was also a Cube exclusive, which it isn't) but I just find it odd the french slip is flase advertising.

That whole bilingual thing with DVD and Videogame packaging really annoys me. <_<

  5. I get very upset that our media care so much to cover the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and make such a big deal out of it. I believe those who did those things were wrong and should be dealt with. But please, to compare that to these beheadings is ridiculous. We have our guys fighting and dying over there daily; we should find a way to support them better. The way to support them is not to undermine them with unnecessary negative press, which we have done.

I even heard a congressman claim that Abu Ghraib was the worst atrocity in the history of our country. Come on. What about the Indians? What about slavery? What about 9/11? We have to define who the bad guy is here, and it is not the other party. It reeks of partisanship to use tragedy to try to get your guy elected.

It is not just the Democrats. Bill Clinton’s book comes out and the only thing talked about is Monica. The whole idea of taking a president to prosecution over an affair is ridiculous. I know he lied under oath, which people have gone to jail for, but why was he under oath to begin with? Let the man run the country first; prosecute him after he leaves office. We elect a president, not a pope. Believe me, as many skeletons as I have, I won’t be throwing stones.

I am sick of seeing America divided by personal agenda and the moral police. This reeks of hypocrisy. Do things that benefit America first.

Holy shit. Bradshaw & I actually agree on something!

  6. Here, in Canada (Ontario), it's $49.99 plus 15% sales tax. That ain't right!

Well whatever part of Ontario you live in is marking it up. The Canadian MSRP is $39.99, which is what I see at every store I've gone into here [Toronto].

  7. Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Annette O'Toole, John Schneider, John Glover, and Allison Mack are all listed on the WB's website as coming back next season.

*annoyed* What's with the writer's? Are they affraid to kill off characters? This is why Joss is the man. ANYONE is game to be killed off in his shows. Anyone. :)

Yeah, and look which show is still on the air...

 Smallville is still on the air [the WB] because the WB owns it...

  9. I picked up the PS2 version last night. I had the intention of getting the Cube one only because of the rumor I heard that you ONLY had remixed tracks on the PS2 version, and no originals, but once I found out that you can actually swtich between the two, the PS2 was the way to go for me [especially since Nintendo has this bizarre fear of introducing backwards compatibility into their nextgen systems, unlike Sony].

  10. Trailer..

    and

Last year's Def Jam Vendetta married hip-hop and wrestling action to produce a game that was, in all honesty, a lot better than anyone might have expected. This year, Electronic Arts and Aki are taking that successful union and expanding on it in a big way with a new sequel, Def Jam: Fight for NY. Surprisingly, Fight for NY shifts the focus of the action out of the ring and away from wrestling a little bit, making it feel more like a fighting game. This time out, you'll be trading punches and throws in gritty urban settings like a hollowed-out warehouse and a subway station. The fight gets pretty brutal, with all sorts of weapons thrown into the mix. You'll have to fight dirty to gain the money and respect you deserve while rising to the top of the New York underground.

No third party has a bigger presence at E3 than EA, and we managed to get a hold of the Def Jam: Fight for NY wall trailer that EA was showing at its massive booth this year. There's literally a multiple tonnage of rappers included in the game--almost 40 personalities in all--including Method Man, Sticky Fingaz, Ludacris, and Busta Rhymes. This new trailer shows off several of the fighters and some of their new fighting styles as well as some of the arenas you'll be duking it out in. If you think the visuals in the trailer are too good to be true--we've seen the game in person, and it does look pretty darn good.

Def Jam: Fight for NY is slated for release around the end of September, so you can look for a lot more coverage of the game before that time. For now, check out a batch of new screenshots along with this trailer.

Man, I couldn't care less that they moved this from being a wrestling title to a fighting title. This is going to kick all kinds of ass!! :D

  11. Statement 6:

La Resistance is superior to the Rougeaus and the Quebecers.

Grenier: True. No doubt it. In a previous RAW Magazine, they compared us, and we were superior, and we weren’t even World Tag Team Champions at the time.

Conway: Absolutely true. Because we’ve watched those guys, and we’ve taken everything they’ve ever did well and just added our athletic ability. So it’s kind of like as a tag team, we’ve evolved. They were great, we’re just even better.

    Not-bloody-fucking-likely!!

  12. I dunno. I'm kind of pumped for this game. I didn't really have much interest in Zero.....which is why I haven't played it......but this one looks exciting.

0 was alright.. way too short, though, IMO...

Short? I thought it was one of the longer REs.

    Not by my count..

  13. I kinda wanted to see 28 Day Earlier...which would start with the monkeys and pretty much end where the dude gets out of bed. You'd see everything that happened between that time.

Definitely. I'd at least like an animated version of that. Or an expansion of the comic that comes with the soundtrack. :)
