SWF Storm Card for March 7, 2007

The hardest working family ever... EDIT: And by that I mean the skit not the Wayans, although they had five jobs each at the time too. SW-1 spinnin' da hot beats in da house~!

    State of the SWF, 2007

Yeah, it sucks but currently I don't know where the fed stands Thugg. We've started to show more, but have no brand new writers yet. I wonder if the decision will still stand by the time we get to Genesis.

Glad to see more people at least giving rational reason for why they don't enjoy the show. It was nice actually seeing the Flame station, but them not reading those books Sayid found in the basement sucks. I thought we might get some concrete answers on the Lockdown and food drop when I saw them. I also like how Locke always seems to get caught up in a computer of some kind. He's just a natural button pusher and it always blows up in his face. I assume the chess game had a specific sequence necessary to win, because if it didn't how would the Dharma people who worked there ever activate the failsafe in a pinch?

    Storm Predictions

MAIN EVENT - SWF WORLD CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Wildchild © vs. "Cadillac" Calvin Szechstein It would be nice if Mike won because currently there's no angle around the Cruiser belt and this could be a spark, but I think WC will come up with somthing for From the Fire thats less tag team and more singles gold oriented. TAG TEAM MASHUP Insane Luchador and Michael Stephens (with Landon Maddix at ringside) vs. Zyon and Akira Kaibatsu (with Michael Cross) This would be a big win for Zyon and Akira. That said IL and Stephens should go over. HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP Jimmy the Doom © vs. Manson I won't pick against Drea until she loses the belt. Nigh unstoppable Jimmy is, but if there's one force that could oppose him it is MANSON~! SINGLES ACTION Zack Malibu vs. Xero Don't sleep on Malibu people. He had a really good run before he decided to focus more on the 'other place'. So, I'll go with Zack due to him already being in the swing of things, but this is Xero's return match so he should be suitably pumped.

    College Basketball 06/07

The CAA is quickly becoming a fairly strong conference, fourth isn't as weak a finish as you'd think. The three big wins out of conference would be enough if Drexel hadn't had two equally weak loses (Rider and somebody else), although being behind ODU and getting swept by VCU won't help matters, they beat Cuse and Nova. That's huge. While they are the definition of on the bubble, three teams should come out of the CAA. I really hope they get one of those bids.

I'm one of the two people that picked the tag title match as MOTN, because it would be conceited to pick my own match . Actually, I think it was one of the better tags I read in a long time. I don't think it could've worked against any other team than W&D, because of the backstories you could play with the character dynamics, so it wasn't quite formula (face vs. face with a tweener vibe), but it had the standard extended tag structure of multiple heat segments, each face getting their comeback, the clusterfuck leading to a false finish, etc. Still, you did a lot of things to make the formula your own. Firstly, the overarching story of Stephens attitude adjustment makes a lot of sense in the context of this match with bitter rivals, his previous series with Clark, Janus/Clusterfuck and the main event angle as a whole. Mike is pissed off and Landon is kinda just playing it off as paranoia, granted Stephens's anger is currently focused somewhere else, but if something were to happen Maddix doesn't seem like he'd expect it, either from the match or the promos surrounding it. Second, your writing styles mesh extremely well. The flow is smooth, logicial and does an excellent job of leading the reader without bashing them over the head with the commentary. The one spot I loved from this match was the Victory Roll counter to the Dangerous Drop because as soon as you went into that sequence I immediately thought Victory Roll finish. If I had thought about how deflating a clean win without the aftermath of that spot would've been there considering it's Landon and Johnny, I'd have realized it was obviously a false finish, but I completely suspended my disbelief and bought into the nearfall, which is a credit to your writing. With the way the match started, the real finish with Landon grabbing the tights and Mike chokeslaming Wildchild was the perfect capper to the escalating tension since the beginning of the match. And finally, the little things. Using W&D's referee. Dangerous and Mike jaw jacking. Stephens doing the same stuff he did to Clark against Wildchild getting him mixed reactions. And possibly the best of those being Mike staying in the ring daring Johnny to try and break the pin, since he saved WC earlier. That's good storytelling from my MOTN.

I promised I'd write something about Zyon's match and just didn't get around to it earlier so here it is. While Pure Rules can lead to an interesting match, it's also limiting in itself. Zyon stuck with the obvious and smart storyline, which is that Johnson being a better grappler eliminates the youths rope breaks on stretches and Zyon (being worse) responds with sloppy attempts of his own, but is forced to use his ingenuity to pick up the win. The secondary story around that though is what I liked better while reading. Zyon's really getting into the characters lately and never is it more evident than this match with him pointing out the rope break on the Big Shot counter and JJ's punch in response. There were a couple of really cool spots like that in there: Zyon's spinning wheel kick and Johnson's Dragon Flip followed by No Regard crash and burn (which I was suprised to see JJ dodge) stand out. I think these were done to show how familiar they are with eachother and this is reenforced towards the finish. The match gets really physical harkening back to JJ/Janus and the teased finish and actual ending were executed well. My only problem is that it's extremely difficult to sprawl during a guillotine choke and grabbing a rope wouldn't really help. Instead I think it would work better if on JJ's choke counter to the Northern Lights, Johnson hadn't gotten the hooks in it and then Zyon can get the two count the same way. But during the finish, instead of grabbing the ropes, Zyon gets taken down to the mat and puts his feet on the ropes to get the extra leverage necessary for the pin. Not only would it be more probable, but makes Zyon look a little craftier than your original finish. Just something to think about. If I were to have a complaint I can't help thinking your pacing is a little too fast. I know they're Cruisers, but you didn't give some stuff time to sink in. It felt like a slightly slower version of the Indies. Everything was rapid fire. Another thing to point out is you had a suspect transition after JJ goes into his beatdown. I hadn't had enough time to digest why he would do something like what he pulled on Janus, though I know he was pissed from the weak rope break he gave up... but then he backs off of Zyon negating that whole mini-story and Zyon immediately gets up and takes control for a whip? Didn't make much sense to me, but if you play up Zyon's decision a little more and have him get some strikes in with his charge, a whip is more probable and can be seen as JJ giving his rival a chance to man-up. Overall I really enjoy your writing style, but what I'd work on is taking more words to develop your match and less towards wordplay. If it goes too fast your execellent story loses some of its importance. Good stuff

    Re-Using Losing Matches

Never used an entire old or losing match. In the beginning through my JL/early WF run I wrote everything brand new, but as moves started to get repetitive (since I had done so much writing) I substituted when appropiate after I spotted other people doing it. Normally I'll change the description slightly, but the hard part as Landon has mentioned is getting every name adjusted. I've messed up on that a couple times and I'm sure it takes the reader out of the match flow. So, sorry for that...

I liked the way the show went this week. Kudos go out to Alan Clark who adjusted what was necessary to defeat a guy that few can. I couldn't. Speaking of me, at least I can turn in promos on time. Now I need to work on those matches. And another good thing... no double no shows. I want to hear what Skull Radio has to say about this one. P.S. I'll talk about Zyon's match since I was the marker, but just not right now. Probably tomorrow morning so be on the look out for that Zyon.

When one program clearly creates a new star

This may be subjective but HHH did make Batista. That was one of the best slow burn feuds in WWE history and Batista is now big enough in managements eyes to possibly end Undertaker's WM streak. Rock didn't make anybody, but he sure as hell tried with Jericho. And Brock's HIAC with Taker gained him a lot of respect and credibility with the fans, but I don't know if it made him like those other series did for there respective winners.

    LOST

I don't quite see how the Others are being shown as the 'good guys'. They seem to be holding people against their will, brainwashing and torturing others and all for no real reasons yet. Also, Jack always is shown with some large character flaws. It's really hard to like him. Overall, this episode was kind of meh to me. I still enjoy the show and don't see a need to complain about it, but sometimes the little things frustrate me. That's the point. They aren't really good guys at all (possibly in the grand scheme of things but we don't know yet), but they are people who have problems and issues of their own. Not just this mystic force like the island.

    LOST

I'm glad somebody understood the point of the episode. His flashback and Juliet's marking are one in the same. I'm sure others got it as well and if that wasn't enough for you I can understand, but seems like a decent revel to me. Doesn't seem like Jack's coming back to the main group for a little while no matter what kind of army Kate builds up. And Wow. You guys must admit you're bitching quite a lot after they gave us arguably the best episode since season 1, when the concept was completely fresh. And the whole point of season 3 was to show how the Others are 'good guys' right? It's like after season 2 and the way they handled the tailies, the internet decided to kill a show whose only fault is they are using the same pattern they did from their best season. Except now it's the background story of most important new characters (Juliet and Desmond). This episode wasn't great by any means, but we learned why Jack and Juliet are kindred beyond the obvious. We learned that Cindy and the other Others have been incorperated into their community, maybe even brainwashed. We confirmed the Others don't tolerate killing each other (unless Ben says so apparently) and that Ethan was their surgeon. Plus that the lady from Desmond's story who supposedly knows everything that's going to happen is on the island. Answers and no new big questions. Wasn't that what everyone was asking for like three weeks ago?

I wouldn't call it a crapfest at all. Jack's flashbacks paralleled Juliet's current story and explained his actions. It's why they have a connection, beyond her looking like his ex-wife. I've also always enjoyed Jack's story so I liked it. Was it more exposition than plot progress, yes, but that's been a LOST staple since season 1. At least the other island is finally wrapped up. I think people have become very critical of decent episodes. The last four have been one of the more solid runs of the show, but they lost momentum with the big break and everyone was already souring. To be honest they probably have me until the end of this season based on the strength of last weeks Desmond-centric episode, unless they total bomb a few. LOST has finished strong each season so I can ride it out for now.

    Skull Radio~!

Eh, I guess I worded my statement incorrectly. Don't want you to think I disliked your comments or anything. Exactly the opposite in fact. It's more like I wish I could have thought of something better at the time than stealing my finish from two WWE matches. Hindsight and all that, I should change my finisher to the Air Raid Crash. I used it at the PPV and could've wrote that in as it would've made more sense themematically. Establishing the move, etc. EDIT: Oh and Johnny I thought it was funny not bad. Made me laugh because his jokes would hit and then you'd just pretty much shut him down.

*Someone says something.* Johnny (deadpan): Okay... *Tom cracks a joke.* Johnny (deadpan): Right. Right. Good stuff brought up and talked about. Guests were on point. Maybe I'll call next week. And I would try rationalize my finish but I have nothing to say that could do that. I needed a finish and just got done watching Batista/Kennedy on Smackdown, plus a Brock Lesnar vid on youtube where he triple Powerbomb'd Jeff Hardy. Combine and voila, no more problem ending the match.

    Storm comments for 2/14!

Well, after re-reading Wildchild's match I must say that the pacing is really fast. It just reads like a 8-12 minute sprint match with few breaks in between. This is a cruiser contest so that's good that it went by so quickly. Lots of back and forth. The best part about your match is the use of basic manuevers like the double axe-handle and leg drops. It was different structure wise because there wasn't really an extended heat segment, but you did do one briefly, which leads to my next comment. I see that someone's been watching RAW cause they modified Victoria's Boston Crab counter to Trish's Corner Handstand Rana. Nice spot. I do wish that you had teased his Superkick and maybe set some heel/face lines though. I understand running face/face since he's the top face from the OAOAST, so IMO you could have added to this by splitting the crowd and blaming it on WC being a Kings fan or something. And lastly, you should probably explain what the Bird Dropping is as it's happening because most people won't know your stats, even if it is your finisher.

    This week in the NBA

Gotta disagree with you. His Dee Brown look alike dunk was sick because he did everything down to the Reebok Pumps and retro jersey. Showmanship is everything and then when Nate played along it made it that much better. That's why everyone, including the announcers were upset that Howard got no love on his sticker dunk. Does anyone know what he wrote on it?

SWF Storm Card for February 21, 2007

    Storm comments for 2/14!

Let me start by saying I read Clark's match before he did some final editing and I believed it would be close. He just has to get a little deeper into the character's stories and then I think he might take Stephens in the rematch. It would be a tough win, but clearly possible. Promo-wise, I think Maddix and Stephens have been doing a good job showing just how quickly someone can go from the penthouse to the outhouse and vice versa. I get a distinct WWE backstage vibe which works well considering the situation. I've got to work, but the next person that asks for comments on their match will get 'em. I think I'll do Wildchild vs. Malibu anyway so you guys don't have to worry about it. P.S. Please don't comment on my match, as par for the course I enjoyed what I was writing up until I hit the wall and started sucking.

    LOST

Gotta agree with that. This was a Desmond centric episode so that's already a plus in its favor. For those that dislike the flashbacks, this is why they still have them. It added so much to the episode and answered questions which is the main complaint. Sure it brought up new ones, but I think it adequately answered the main question of where the hell Desmond went. Why and how may even get answered next week (doubtful, but the English chick is in it) which is cool. The big reveal at the end reminded me of how they set up Locke's season 1 one. Not the same level of surprise as we now have a better idea of what to expect from the show, but it probably got most of us, which means it was good writing. And a nice sense of forboding at the end. Can't wait till next week... we should find out a lot about season 2, much in the same way they did it for season 1 last year.

    Better Know A Writer!

Real Name: Kel Thomas Characters Portrayed: Mak Francis, Ryan Dustin and Gabriel Drake In SWF Since: May of 02 Real-Life Height: 5' 8" Real-Life Weight: 145 lbs Real-Life Age: 23 Real-Life Location: Philly... thats the Illadelph, son Picture: facebook me cause I'm too lazy to find a better one than that to show how GQ I am Education: BS of Science in Commerce and Engineering Accomplishments Outside of SWF: I'm a black kid that plays/teaches tennis and was good enough to get some money for school while doing it. That's a hell of an accomplishment. I averaged in the 97th percentile on those city/state wide tests they do and one year took the PSAT when I was in 4th or 5th grade (can't really remember which) but didn't do really well. Then I went to highschool/college, got lazy and hovered at barely above average, hence the name. And I won an elementary school science fair once... Favorite Band: Jackson 5, Wu Tang for a minute and Maroon 5 of all people... change this to Artist and I guess it could be Talib Kweli, John Mayer or Lupe Fiasco (me and my friends knew he would be hot after his verse on Kayne's Touch the Sky track) Favorite Song: Right now: Kick, Push. Oh and any verse from the (White) Rapper Show especially John Brown's first verse to avoid elimination. That was a joke, well kinda... the word play was sick though. Favorite Movie: I don't have one favorite. Maybe Good Will Hunting or Searching for Bobby Fisher from a purely cinematic stand point. Check facebook. But Eddie Murphy comedies came to mind first (Coming to America and Trading Places) Virgin? Explain.: Nah. I lost it to a girl at this party then found out the hard way it was just a drunken hook-up. I must've sucked back then, probably still do. As they say in the 40 year old virgin, I need to slay more hoodrats. Heh, still smashed her though so I don't care much now that she crushed me. Accomplishments Within SWF: I had the MOTN at G5. I've won every title in the JL and WF ever... except the SWF Tag Titles, if Toxx jobbing me the strap counts. Never beat Tom Flesher, what do you mean that's not an accomplishment?! Favorite SWF Moment: The finish to the Original Canadian Deathmatch. Me personally, opening G3 with CIA. Favorite SWF Writer (All-Time): Edwin MacPhisto because he's what I grew up on and he seemed to do so much for the fed whether it was commenting or creating angles. Wilson, Thugg and Flesher come a close but significant second. Sacred's in there somewhere too. Can't forget Danny Williams either, who probably did more to create the current style the fed writes in than any other person. I wish I could have seen more of King and GSMS though. Favorite SWF Writer (Current): Landon Maddix. Mike Stephens is a close second. Why You Joined The SWF: I stumbled on to e-feds through one on gamefaqs.com and was bored so I came up with the Mak Francis character for some random RP fed. I had just gotten into the internet after having it full time at school and I'd been a huge wrestling fan so it just fit when I found these boards. Then I needed something to blow off steam from Differential Equations, which is some of the hardest shit I've ever dealt with and it was cake to my math major friend.
