The crappy Special Teams play shouldn't surprise me... LSU's return teams have been subpar for most of the year, especially the returners. That blocked punt just now really upset me, though, as they're good enough on the line NOT to be giving up blocked punts.

Shit... 11 more seconds and LSU's streak of holding their opponents scoreless in the 1st quarter would be intact. As of now, it's an impressive 80-7 across the 1st quarter all year. As for this game, it's 7-7 LSU-Florida with seconds to go in the 1st. Both TD drives have been the result of fumble recoveries (a rushing fumble by Florida and a punt fumble by LSU)

This is what I call the "Oliver Stone school of writing", although it applies to Vince Russo as well. Sorry if it came out that way. Of course Reed didn't put a gun to their heads and forced them to go, but the fact remains that he somewhat knew what would happen to them and he didn't tell them (I believe this was a storyline years ago), so basically they were guinea pigs to him. That, my friend, is disturbing behavior. Then again, he's a scientist, so he probably feels it's within his rights in the name of science. That storyline was in the Fantastic Four / X-Men crossover after Mutant Massacre. Apparently, Dr. Doom created a fake journal in which Reed had supposedly mused about the possibilities of the radiation on them. Only Franklin's premonitions about the journal kept it from being taken completely at face-value and, by the end of the storyline, was revealed to be a fake.

He's been useless for 5 years, yet some people in positions of power think that'll change even though he can't grip the football (43 fumbles in his last 32 games) or maintain a positive TD/INT ratio (26 to 29). Speaking of washed up has beens, does anyone else remember when Jamal Lewis was a franchise RB? Wasn't that back when Kerry Collins was going to the NFC Championship game?

Two things... 1. It looks like the rumors of KC's demise are greatly exaggerated (Up 34-0 on a SF team that had been somewhat competitive up until this game) 2. The Saints are getting a LOT of breaks their way in the 2nd half. Combine that with Drew Brees' competent QB play (as opposed to Aaron Brooks' Keystone Kops routine) and you've got a Saints lead.

Washington's rough spot was fully tied to the incompetence of the school administration (ESPECIALLY the NCAA Compliance Officer) rather than the players. By running off Neuheisel thanks to university stupidity then getting a bargain-basement replacement on short notice, they went into the toilet immediately. While I derided Ty's run at Notre Dame, he seems to be doing fine at Washington. At least he can recruit on the West Coast like he did at Stanford, but without the academic limitations.

On the plus side, Roger Clemens, who I dislike, seems to be going down. On the minus side, Andy Pettite, who I like, seems to be going down. Shit, meet fan.

What I'd like *best* would be Auburn to win out and for all major contenders BUT LSU to lose at least one game. That would set up for a rematch of the controversial 7-3 Auburn win in the title game, which would be the first single-conference title game in BCS history. Next best would be Ohio State and Auburn in the title game with LSU and USC in the Rose Bowl.
