    O'Connor resigns

For real. And if I may say so: Final-fucking-ly. If anyone else could be resigning right now, it'd have to be Kennedy or another of those swing judges that got stuff like this last SC decision passed. I honestly hate Kennedy and O'Conner because they always seem to be the deciding factor in some of the dumbest shit in history and always seem to come out on the wrong side of it all.

    The OAO XNet News Thread!

I think, perhaps, the first part of all that is the most important. We all have a 'matches > promo' bias, but promos help build matches and make them important. We are only 4/5 points off from a top rating. If we just make our shows a little more promo based, we'll be pretty good.

    42% of voters favor impeachment

Just to say, the committee did say that they didn't pressure anyone. Now the former, that's debateable then.

    42% of voters favor impeachment

Well, that and the fact that the Senate Intelligence Committee sort of, well, said that he didn't press anyone for bad info or such and that he went in on honest intentions. So doesn't that make this pretty much moot based on prior Senate findings?

    Lawmakers Tour Gitmo

^^^ Exactly. Trials, like military tribunals would legitimize the holdings greatly. Plus, why keep someone there you don't honestly believe to be a risk? It doesn't make sense why someone would just choose to hold someone there for no particular reason. Of course, if they lose their trial, I doubt many people against Gitmo will be that pleased.

    A week late...but still

I joined August 2002 with a promo I had been working on for a few months. First Match: I think it was against Blank, a skater punk heel. He was actually kinda cool and had an interesting moveset. Greatest moments: 3 of them. 1) Winning the JL World Title in the Main Event of Countdown to Genesis against Thor, Fugue, and MVS. I don't think I've ever been as excited or nervous for a match ever. I was sick as hell, but I was in chat when I was watching the show come up and my response was "..." a dozen times. 2) Beating Frost and TNT as our first title defense. This was before we were a real proven team: We only had a default win and a cowrite to our name, and I was nervous we were not gonna make it, especially how we lost our first triple tag match. This was the true beginning of J&R. 3) Main Eventing Genesis. Even though I lost, going from the ME @ countdown to the ME at Genesis was one hell of a journey. I just wish I hadn't fucked up so much of it with personal shit. OOC Moment: Tag match planning. Ejiro, Tom, Fugue, and anyone else who I've tagged with. I always found it immense fun going over spots for an hour or so and then just BS.

Yeah, uh, Danny, watch the quotes. Apparently now you can use too many of them. Same thing happened to me in CE.

    Lawmakers Tour Gitmo

A quote from the man himself: No one has said they aren't allowed to visit anything yet. If you, well, actually read up on the subject, you'd figure out that the US hasn't actually said no to any of his demands except for one, I believe, and that was private discussions with prisoners. Oddly enough, though, they've let the International Red Cross in a few times to inspect their facilities. THEY MUST BE HIDING SOMETHING~!

Oh come on. I think two billion is a damn good estimate.

    Taking Care Of Your Friends...

CG, a few things: The insurgency isn't even close to 1-10, just to tell you. The largest part of the insurgency is made up of foreigners coming in from the borders, and even if you count them in... that's still way too large an estimate. That'd mean 2,000,000 Iraqis are a part of the insurgency, which is many, many times larger than the insurgency could ever hope to be. It's not a conservative estimate, it's a wildly huge one. :\ And assigning numbers to the mess is meaningless. How do you assign blame for something an insurgent said he did? Is that a US thing or an Iraqi thing? It's meaningless. Regardless, it should be realized that we are the ones rebuilding Iraq, moreso than anyone else. You can complain that conditions aren't ideal, but after three years Europe after WWII hadn't recovered yet and was still rebuilding. And that's a reconstruction project that doesn't deal with an insurgency that prefers to blow up civil servants keeping the peace and more often than not, innocent civilians. If we don't care about the Iraqi civilians, why do we care to give them a new government, rebuild their country, and provide them safety?

Damn it. Figures the person who posts it is already gone when I get there. Come in and chat if you like. I'll be on for a while. n00bs, feel free to pick the brain of a veteran for a while. Or at least listen to a few entertaining stories of the past.

    Taking Care Of Your Friends...

Damn it, you had to quote him after I finally put him on ignore. Oh well, it's not like he said anything of substance anyways. But to address Cheesala: First off, I agree that an exit plan is something that should have been immediately in place. But I'm also assuming you aren't asking for us to initiate it right now, either. Just to say. Secondly: Sometimes one has to pick the lesser of two evils. It's a necessity. Just because you don't pick a side doesn't mean that's the most morally correct or realistically smart one: If we didn't support Afganis, it's completely possible that they could have swept into Iran or Pakistan after that. Good reasons? Grey reasons is probably a better way of putting it: There's good, and there's bad. You have to weigh the advantages of supporting a side, and even not supporting a side. I'm sure that came across the table more than a few times. It's hard, but sometimes when two nations are gonna go to war no matter what we do, there isn't a clear-cut good outcome, but you have to shoot for the best one there is available. The situations you described would have been rough no matter what happened, and while I'm sure that many people didn't want to be involved, they probably thought it could be much worse if we hadn't. And, just to be Geograhically correct, I'd say that they'd only be worried about Afganistan and it'd be Uzbek, Turkimenstan, Kyrgyikstan. And frankly, at least two of those three countries should stay worried. Edit: Oh, and while I agree with your final statement, it's probably best to stay as long as we can to do it RIGHT than trying to leave as early as we can to save soldier's lives. We do more losing them now in a winning action than losing them later in a repeat.

    Lawmakers Tour Gitmo

No, it's not a flamebait. It's a perfectly legitmate question, and I'll address it. But first off, that's a pretty rough paraphrase, and it'd be two completely different situations as well. Let me explain: The situation I was talking about is something that was simply a rumor, just like many others. None of them have confirmation, many of them from sources that one would say is very 'reputable' or 'trustworthy'. The second is a confirmed visit with actual confirmed quotes. There isn't a lie here because, well, you have more than one trustworthy witness saying the same thing. Honestly, Cheesala, I would like to think that you have even a slight idea of situational awareness. You can't just try and apply universal solutions or labels to everything, which is why this argument (Among a few others that certain people on the board have use) fails.

    Rumsfeld/Bono on Meet the Press

Yeah, that entire interview seemed booby-trapped against him. It seemed like Russert was pretty intent on trapping him on more than a few questions.

There's an excellent point right there. Rumsfeld made a pretty damn good case for Iraq.

    HEY!

Yes, this is the seventh sin: Being a little RP bitch. :-P But seriously, this is a joke. WE ARE PEOPLE WHO WRITE IMAGINARY MATCHES FOR A WRESTLING FED THAT DOESN'T EXIST. HOW THE HELL CAN WE HAVE EGOS ABOUT THIS?! Everyone, take a step back. If you are in this for some sort of way to push yourself being better on someone else, perhaps you've chosen the wrong medium. This is for fun. It shouldn't be about win percentage, or how many times you've beaten so and so. It should be about writing something good. Win, lose, or draw, that's all it's about. Having a decent time. Is that really so hard? Does it have to be some sort of battle all the time? Man... Oh, and I deleted Spike's post, if he wanted to direct bitching at anyone.

    NBA Finals

On Dangerous A's topic: I think the misinterpretation of the Bull's success also hurt the rest of the league. The almost singular focus of people on Jordan's prowess and skill that it brought in the "Star Focus" idea rather than the "Complete Team" focus. So many teams back then focused on getting a better star rather than getting a team that would gel. Even my Pistons picked up Grant Hill and assumed they had it (which is when I stopped watching until Rick took over), you get the Sixers with AI, Orlando with Penny and Shaq, Celtics with Paul Pierce and Walker, and finally the Lakers gathering up as many stars as they could and putting them on one team. The Bulls might have gotten the right idea, but everyone else misinterpretted it to the max, which caused perhaps the weakest basketball decade ever.

Oddly enough, in complete contrast, watching the Pistons deny Malone a final shot at an NBA championship is mine.
