  1. "Enter the sequel, Advent Rabbits." Advent Kits. Young bunnies are called kits. This is also the only part that actually matters. If Square intended for humanity to be destroyed at the end of the game, it is irrelevant because they made a sequel anyway. It isn't unheard of for a game company to change continuity or even change their mind about a game ending. It may have just meant that civilization and technology was wiped out and returned humans to the state of nature. Obviously the philosophies of Thomas Hobbes aren't popular with the Square programmers, so it would be a happy ending for them. Of course, that would be quite ironic for video game programmers to hold those ideals, but whatever.
  2. This is way back from page 1, but it sums up my feelings on FF7 110%. Said by a guy who has had Seph in his avatar/sig and agreed with by a guy who uses the phrase "110%." Dama makes a valid argument, but he completely ignores the extent to which it is overrated. No one is saying Final Fantasy VII is the worst game ever. The point is it shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as "best game ever." It's too painfully average and doesn't even deserve consideration as best RPG ever. That's the whole point, you know?
  3. Well, that depends on how many of the German fans know about this. It was just a house show, and we don't know how many of the German fans are net-savvy.
  4. Well, that's all really opinion. Comparing genres like that is really difficult. Don't get me wrong, I really like Super Mario World, but I just never felt it was as good as 3, and Yoshi was a far superior game in every way. The courses were very short and it didn't add too much to the gameplay besides the save option (which is something SMB3 could have used) and Yoshi. SMB3 has deeper gameplay than SMW and was revolutionary, and still holds up well today (not that sales really matter, but SMB3 far outsold SMW between the two GBA revivals). Yoshi's Island is a masterpiece as well, but had the misfortune to be released extremely late in the SNES' life.
  5. Yeah. The show got really boring when they went to college. Well, didn't help that Topanga's actress put on weight. She was really smoking around 16-18. A little touched or so we're told. Killed his wife 'cause she had a cold. Might as well, she was gettin' ooold. Psy-cho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad! He's quick with a gun, and his job ain't done. Killed his wife by twenty-one, he's Psy-cho Dad! Oh, and I had no idea ER was still on the air. Of course, I didn't know Friends was still on the air until the finale was advertised all over the place, so maybe that's not too alarming.
  6. The cartoon had Voice God Frank Welker in it. Therefore by default > the movie. The movie had...uh...Mr. Sarah Jessica Parker, right? BOOO!!
  7. Well, Super Mario World I don't have a problem with CT beating--SMB3 and Yoshi's Island both absolutely smoke SMW, though. It's really hard to compare it to LTTP. LTTP I haven't actually played all the way through, but it wouldn't even rank as my favorite Zelda game.
  8. It's GameFAQs? *shrug* Ditto about Trigger. Neither deserved "Best Game Ever," of course. I would've settled for a LTTP vs. OOT final. Oh, wait...weren't both of those games eliminated by a Square game? Yeah, Trigger eliminated LTTP and FFVII eliminated OOT.
  9. Hahahah, that loveable scamp Bradshaw, jokingly doing that salute, invoking images of massive death tolls, a totalitarian regime and genocide... Anyone who thinks this is in any way acceptable, you are a ****ing moron.
  10. That'll be when I probably cease upgrading my hardware. Well, obviously that's the one that pisses me off, especially when you're going up a hill and you have to VERY CAREFULLY adjust the stick--and none of this games seem to have a way to quickly go back to the default, eye-level viewpoint. So you get blasted with enemy fire struggling with the damn viewpoint. Totally ghey. When was this? The NES had A, B, Start (and select?), the Master System had at least two buttons on the controller. You start with an Atari?
  11. Back on topic: Suh-prise, suh-prise, suh-prise--the finals are two Square games, and Chrono Trigger is losing out to FFVII. Bah, Trigger is better anyway, and it should have been something like a Super Metroid/Mario 3 final. Your GameFAQs Best Game Ever (unofficially): Final Fucking Fantasy VII
  12. Thoroughly chilled... I just prefer my game consoles to be game consoles, not PCs.
  13. That changes the basic point NOT ONE BIT!!
  14. "How can you have an Xbox without Halo??" a) You hate FPSers. b) You hate moving with two analog sticks. Manhunt--major gag. Recommendations: Metal Slug 3 Voodoo Vince Panzer Dragoon Orta I don't really have much more than that yet.
  15. VH1 used to have "The Rock Show" where they'd actually show a bunch of heavy metal videos, old and new. I always kinda thought Edge (WWE) was a Bach wannabe.
  16. Well, it's not who you know, but who you blow. If they try to make it on their acting talents, good luck, bitches.
  17. Actually, not only that but some of them were already available on Game Boy or GBA to begin with! Super Mario Bros. was, for instance, although as part of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. The cropped screen made it a lot harder than the original, so maybe this remake would be worth it if you simply have to have SMB on the go. Then of course, there's Super Mario Land 2 and the Warios, so maybe not. Donkey Kong is inferior to the 94 Game Boy release--no cement factory or added stages. Legend of Zelda is still a great game, but you can get this as part of the GC collection, and there's Link's Awakening readily available. Pac Man is available as part of a collection on GBA released by Namco. Plus the Neo Geo Pocket Color already received the definitive portable edition, with full screen and scrolling versions. What others are in the collection? Nintendo released a second series in Japan, including the original Mario Bros (yes, the game that was free in all the Advance titles and Superstar Saga), only for only 2 players instead of 4. Dr. Mario is a free download with the GC preview disc, plus there's an unlockable knock-off of Dr. Mario available in Wario Ware.
  18. Well, there's Pat Patter-- *remembers Taker vs. Taker* Nevermind.
  19. Not really. Maybe on a technical level, but that's it. RPG gameplay mechanics and storytelling hasn't changed much since FF VII, so the only real improvement is graphics and that doesn't really matter a whole lot. I beg to differ. We've seem some of the newer RPGs--Dark Cloud, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyrie Profile, etc. move more toward a faster based gameplay style, instead of the same ol' turn-based Final Fantasy stuff. Yeah, a lot of games stick to it, but back in the 16-bit days, you had pretty much turn-based and action RPG, since Tales of Phantasia didn't come out here. As for storytelling, for better or for worse RPG storytelling has gotten more visual--hell, so have genres that are typically more action-based. We used to have to wade through a good bit of text that would tell us the story. Now, cinemas have mostly replaced it--fewer words, and more visuals. Showing, instead of telling. I'd be glad to admit that an opening movie can be far more effective in setting up a game's story than an expository crawl, although unless it contains something necessary, I'm going to want to skip both, probably. The problem I have with things becoming too visual is that you're playing a FREAKIN' GAME!! When at all possible, instead of telling or showing, the game should let you PLAY it. If a scenario can be played through, it should be played through. It gives you a better connection with the game and eliminates the dead time that lengthy cinemas lead to. This isn't so much a FFVII probably as it is, say, a problem with the Xeno games, but while I was ranting anyway, I decided to throw it in. I'm not at all impressed. What's so impressive, artistic, or innovative about that? Please don't tell me that's the best example you can come up with. Sounds extremely bare-bones as far as film-direction goes. Where's the switch in camera focus, form-cuts, subtle visual metaphors, use of light and shadow, use of sound to heighten drama and so on(Seph's theme over and over doesn't count), montages, etc.? Is there any unique technique it pioneered, game-wise or movie-wise? I would also like to present a counter-example: there's Aeris' death scene--one of the funniest things in a video game ever. Her way her body reacts is all wrong, there's no blood and no visible wound even. At least when the 16-bit guys bit the big one you didn't have close ups to accentuate all the graphical flaws. Then she's lain in the water, and sinks like a stone in basically the same position. Uh-huh. I'm not feelin' it. That's a shame... Oh come on, I can easily emulate Space Harrier and Hang On--it's just that the game lacks the pure fun, and emulation just doesn't feel right to me. I prefer a controller in hand and the quick and easy firing up of a game over ROM loading and downloading stuff that Lord knows what you'll get with it.
  20. Let me get this straight--you're surprised a Dragon Ball game was bad? Right, got that. Yeah, pretty much every one of them is, exempt for allegedly the 2nd Legacy of Goku for GBA. Although a friend really digs the 2nd Budokai game (forget what it is called) on PS2. I have to admit it has the look and humor down, at least. I also suggest you avoid: CT Special Forces (GBA) : my gripes are chronicled in an earlier thread. The Van Helsing games--stick to the original Devil May Cry or Castlevania games.
  21. Yes. Metal Slug 3: You can post your high scores on the X-Box leaderboard and...that's about it. Slap an X-Box Live bar on it!
  22. Except for the fact that, you know, Kidman sucks, and they'd never pull it off because Kidman would botch his constantly.
  23. "Kinda like how MTV hasn't shown a video in ten years...... " VH1's a little better, but most of their programming is a bunch of list of X types of videos/songs/moments. I Love the 90's?! That's your big upcoming TV event right now?!
  24. Hair metal isn't gay. A lot of it is pretty freakin' terrible, though. Also, MTV didn't kill music. Pure evil like them will never win. True rock and true metal live on in the rest of the world and in the States, even if MTV wants to ignore it. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to syndicate Queer Eye and Queer As Folk, though. Thing is, how does one market specifically to gays without becoming overly insulting? I expect them to do a sitcom that is a blatant ripoff of All in the Family, but instead of Lionel being simply black, he's a walking gay stereotype as well, and does it just for kicks to get the homophobe neighbor freaked out.
