  1. Taker's over and has good matches, even I'll admit that, but his gimmick sucks and is boring as shit. At least I think so.
  2. I'll give it a rent--the only reason I ever sold No Mercy and my N64 was the expectation of a kick ass follow up.
  3. Against tough CPU opponents: good. Against two players of about equal skill: can be bad. Personally, I only do them on purpose as an insult. I may have a major lead in a round, and when my opponent's life bar is about empty or as a deathblow, knock him/her out of the ring. It's like, "I could have finished you off, but instead I'm going to watch you fall to your doom, MUHAHAHAH!!" Fighting Vipers would let you kinda do that, only as a deathblow, that is, but it had enclosed fighting areas so doing so would knock your opponent through a wall/fence instead of sending them plunging to their doom. I prefer Zero Divide's way of doing it, though. You should be able to grab onto the edge of the ring in elevated rings. Maybe the opponent in the ring can stomp on your hand or something, and you can try to fight back if you're partly back in the ring, but they should count you as being in the match as long as you don't take the big plunge. Games like VF which have a ring but it's just a little platform--takes the fun out of it. It should be high up.
  4. To sum up what I thought of the post KingOfOldSchool pasted (page 4..). The roster is up to date...more or less. That list is missing Molly Holly, the FBI of course, Jamie Noble, Kidman, Tommy Dreamer, La Res (they suck, and I won't miss them, but they're the tag champions on Raw for cryin' out loud), probably Moore. And can Funaki ever get a break? His only real appearance in a WWF/E game was as an alternate costume for Taka in No Mercy. At least Ultimo made it. Yet Lita, Rikishi and Batista and plenty of useless guys and gals are in. Fuck that. You still can't edit appearances and stuff like that. No mention of the CAW password feature... No Create a PPV or Create a Belt... The legends mostly suck... Female characters can't bleed... And I'm not buying this game until I see it used up EB for about 15 bucks. Glad to hear we still get Randy Orton and Bra and Panties matches and FUCKING JR AND KING AS CHARACTERS IN SEASON MODE!! FUCK YUKES!
  5. Blond bombshells and ninjas--aren't those in every fighting game anyway? Yoshimitsu is a ninja BTW, only a more unique design to him. I'll give VF credit for Shun Di, though, but I think the Tekken Jackie-Chan ripoff has a Drunken Master stance. So VF doesn't have many original standout characters.
  6. Wondering where JasonX got those supposed plans. True or not, glad to see Austin took a stand against McMahon's bullshit and has since seen to it that the creative direction isn't so shitty anymore. Oh yeah...nevermind.
  7. MK's chain combos are actually good. All of the hits are guaranteed after the first one hits. Tekken's 10 strings are not like that. They are practically worthless. In other words, while the MK tap-taps are "true" combos since they are unblockable after the first hit, the ten strings aren't true combos since they can be broken up. Doesn't that just make the tap-taps far cheesier and the 10-strings less cheap? I still don't see how the tap-taps are better. You mean like those features Gamefan printed a special section for in their Tekken 2 coverage in response to the press about the game lacking technique and being cheap? KoRFungus: Thanks for replying on my behalf--a lot of gamers seemed to take up that attitude because of the heavily pro-VF press. Yet many of this VF love only showed up when VF4 came out. You know, when a Virtua Fighter game was finally available for a non-Sega system. I like both series to a degree--hell, I owned Virtua Fighter 32x! Yet they're very similar takes on the same genre, but Tekken has more flash and sizzle to it, as well as more fighters, modes of play, and cooler characters. The characters in Tekken probably are big factors in why the more casual gamers (or just non-elites) prefer Tekken: Tekken has Tiger Mask ripoffs, androids, demons, Ryu/Ken style archetypes, dinos, a kangaroo--and VF has bland-looking martial artists.
  8. We prefer Cole and Tazz. WWE prefers King and JR.
  9. Easy: make another DVD later with even more matches. This is why fans do not make good business people. If they put out a shitty DVD, I won't buy it. I have most of those matches in some form or another anyway, so screw it unless things change when it comes out.
  10. "Anyway, where do we sign up for this job? Write utter crap with no need for thought and say 'Yes, Mr McMahon' and 'Yes, Champ' when they finish a sentence, I want that job. " You can't sign up. You can't be a fan and you have to have some experience writing for shitty soap operas.
  11. That's the only way this match could be remotly entertaining. I'd mark out if he bust out the boom shakalaka form WM The Arcade Game. That's be awesome! WM Arcade was my first PS(1) game and one of my favorite games ever.
  12. This is good news, but I'm saddened that Raw is getting high ratings and Bad Blood outsold Vengeance in buyrates, though. =/
  13. Al Snow and Coach vs. JR and King.... Yeah, that's an improvement. I only wish that Mick was on commentary, because he'd make this shit worth watching. I like Snow, and hey, he'll be earning a nice little paycheck for this, so some one wins anyway.

    Edge in 2001

I actually created a topic just like this around KOTR 2002 time. As far as I'm concerned, if you don't do anything major in the year following your KotR win, it was wasted like Gunn's. Bret's win--certainly not a waste. Owen Hart was turned into a credible contender for the title by winning KOTR and was in a major feud with Bret. Mabel--let's not discuss it. Austin--everyone here knows that little story of course. HHH--wow, he sucked then. I can't think of a single fucking notable thing he did after this--oh, he switched his theme to "Ode to Joy" and got the IC didn't he? No one cared about him until he joined DX, but his KOTR had no real impact on his career so I consider it a waste. Shamrock's win could have lead to something, but turning heel and joining the Corporation sank his career. He was massively over before then, though. Gunn's win was nonsensical, and only lead to a feud with the Rock which ended with Gunn's push aborted. Did nothing notable afterward. Angle's win was followed by other great successes, and he won the title soon after. Brock's win--part of the megapush from hell, so it made sense. He won the title later the same year, too. Edge didn't Billy Gunn his title; but it did lead to the E and C split, the IC title win, and helped establish him as a credible singles guy. However, it wasn't until well over a year later when he really became to come into his own. Jericho would have been a better choice for the 2001 KOTR, I believe. Better KOTR than: Mabel, Gunn, HHH. However, not as beneficial as the other wins for their respective winners.
  15. The endings were the only real complaint I had about Calibur 1--they were a letdown from the usual Namco awesomeness. The Dreamcast is actually in many ways superior to the PS2 technically. I wish I still had the spec sheet that showed that, but I don't doubt it, because the DC's power was only beginning to be taken advantage of. BOTH systems had their problems with jaggies, so the GC and X-Box are more powerful than both, but strictly on a technical level, the PS2 in embarrassing compared to a system out over a year before it. Sakura: The reason Tekken-hating is so prevalent is because VF is so "underrated" and "overlooked" by U.S. gamers. Since it's more popular in Japan, OBVIOUSLY we're the ones at fault. It can't be because many American gamers feel the game is boring as shit in comparison, right? Tekken ripped off many aspects of games already out, and obviously VF was the biggest influence--but being more realistic doesn't make a better game by default. Despite the fact that both games are Japanese, the fact that VF is favored more in Japan holds some sway in the debate. Many gamers are so blindly pro-Japan that they worship anything about the culture and anything they prefer. This isn't bashing anyone who prefers VF over Tekken, provided they have good reasons for it, but I do hope people form their own opinions. For example, as much as you like it, I still think the MK games suck, Sakura. I'll admit though, that when I visited my sister in New York, and the only fighting game available to me was MK CD using a 3 button controller...it...was alright. I admit, I played it quite a bit. Although I think MKII smokes it and I loathe 3 and its offshoots--but that's because of the gameplay that I dislike about it. Although Sakura--why do you bash the 10-strings but like the tap-taps in MK3/UMK3/MKT?
  16. Lilly: Don't know what spot you're talking about--I assume you mean last Raw which I didn't see. But last week Molly almost botched two moves in a row, a side slam that almost was botched, and a shoulderbreaker that almost ended up like a Tombstone that would have probably dropped Trish on her head. This is Molly mind you, the best wrestler in the entire fed, and I like her, but that was scary to watch.
  17. Okay...I've read that 3 times and it still makes no sense. *reads own sig again* Oh right. Carry on.
  18. OH GOODIE!! You mean not only will we get HHH as champ again when he's healthy, and only as a FACE so he can finally squash all the heels on the roster, but an ORTBRAN MAIN EVENT PUSH!! Ooooooh! SIGN ME UP!! I'm going to have to stay tuned into Raw all the time from now on! This is going to be fantastic! Seriously, if it keeps him off SD though, that's great news.
  19. The show looks good aside from that bikini contest shit. Which I pray isn't leading to an angle or anything, then it's not so bad. Why are spoilers most of the time sent in by idiots?
  20. In HHH's defense, we don't know if anyone not showing up would get punished for it. Besides, if only Cliq members and personal friends were invited, people would be calling him a snob.
  21. You're saying HBK possibly might be a hypocrite? *gasp*
  22. Got the DVD, but haven't seen that match in a while...I believe it was the cage match where the BoD let Kanyon escape the cage, but then beat the unholy hell out of DDP. Taker was trash talking him in the corner, right? I forget what he said...
  23. They had that in SYM already, but just for the Ankle Lock. Yeah, it would rock if they'd include more. I should hope so--that was included in the AKI games--you could counter a punch/kick that was caught and go into your special.
  24. Either way, he'll stay in the hold too long, and do his "moaning" that sounds like he's getting a massage from a big-breasted Swedish masseuse rather than having muscles and tendons twisted in unnatural ways. "Ahhh...ahhhhhh....ahhhhh..."
  25. Dan: Kudos, I think you've got it! At least that makes a hell of lot more sense than what I thought. *I*
