  1. The thinking in acquiring Weaver would the better future potential. This season, I'd rather have Suppan. Sure Weaver might turn it around, but you don't know. Suppan's much more proven this the season and gives the Astros a better 3rd starter. Suppan will hopefully improve his second half in 2003 after going 2-10 with a 6.65 ERA in the second half of 2002 with the Royals.
  2. Okay.. that's a good pairing of teams. Lima faced and beat the Rangers (7 IP, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts). Lima also fared well with the Mariners (5.1 IP, 5 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts until he had to leave the game with a groin injury) If projections hold up, Lima has two starts against the Yankees in August and one against the White Sox. Should be interesting to see how that works out. Although, I expect a loss sometime, 7 wins in a row is pretty good. Just another thing I wanna mention. Right-handed batters are hitting .129 (9 for 70) /.160/.171 against Lima. .331 OPS. Lima's walked one RHB and struck out 10. Although Left-handed batters fare slightly better, .241 (26 for 108) /.349/.380, .729 OPS. 16 walks, 13 strikeouts. Interesting numbers.
  3. So, what teams have a 'really capable offense'? Teams left for the Royals to play: White Sox D-Rays Yankees Twins Rangers Angels Indians -- Any of them capable?
  4. So, he's fighting Creed again?
  5. What's going to stop somebody from fucking up the field when it's outdoors like that?
  6. I'm sure that Boone being fired by the Royals has nothing to do with anything in your POV.
  7. "As reported, Knight will manage today and Miley will be interim manager rest of the year. Knight will become third base coach and hitting coach after today, with bullpen catcher Mark Berry becoming bench coach." Boone, you SOB, you ruined Kansas City from 1995 to 1997, get the hell into retirement. various Boone tidbits "Okay, now I've seen firsthand what all the Bob Boone-bashers are ranting about. Reds-Giants last night, sixth inning, runner on third, one out. He pinch hits with Griffey, who can't run. Naturally the Giants walk him, he needs a PR, and Boone has burned two players without Griffey getting a chance to swing the bat. Then, with first and third, one out, and BARRY LARKIN (3-for-3, plus he's Barry Larkin) at bat, he decides it's just the time for.... a double steal. With a catcher, LaRue, on third. I admit it almost worked, in fact it might have been a bad call at the plate, but still, geezus. Oh, I almost forgot -- before the double steal attempt, Larkin fouled off a bunt try on the first pitch. Not a squeeze, no runners were moving, and it didn't look like he was really bunting for a hit either, since he sort of semi-squared. Joe Morgan said of all this, "I have to admit, I don't understand what's going on down there."" "Stynes major impediment will be his manager. Chris Stynes does nasty things like get on-base, make contact with a baseball, and play decent defence - things which Bob Boone just will not tolerate. Unless he gets at least two hits every chance he gets, I'm sure Bob has him projected as Craig "useless slug" Paquette's towel boy." One alt.sports.baseball.kc-royals post suggested Boone put Johnny "Throws like a girl" Damon in RF, which is just laughable. You know that if I knew Unfrozen Caveman Centerfielder was in right field, I'd try to score from first base every time. Bob Boone being hired is the worst thing to ever happen to Bob Hamelin.
  8. what i'm expecting is that Lima gets a big contract for next year with some other team, implodes sometime during the year and all is well with the universe
  9. Armando Benitez pitching against Byung-Hyun Kim is the irrestible force against the immovable object. IOW, get the medication ready, something's going down
  10. Yeah, Halladay is impressive. He was impressive too when he won 19 games with a lower ERA than he has so far this year. Toronto better get Halladay locked up, because he's good.
  11. Lima never really got out many fast pitches, but he was able to get run support and defense to neutralize Detroit. Unless his groin injury flares up again, he will be starting on August 1st against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Of course, I'll probably end up going to the game on August 2nd, where the 'Fifth Starter to be named later' will start (Affeldt is in the bullpen due to developing blisters after 5 innings, so the 5th guy could be Kris Wilson, Brad Voyles, Jimmy Gobble from Wichita, a guy we traded for, or somebody) His ERA now after 8 starts is 2.17, he's given up 12 earned runs in 49.2 innings, his BB:K ratio is now 17 walks and 23 strikeouts. So, is Lima a favorite for 'AL Comeback player of the year'? Coming off of a 7.77 ERA year to win seven straight starts is a nice comeback. Now onto the White Sox/Royals series. Maybe the Twins can lose sometime soon, 2-2 in the 14th inning.
  12. Issa is the guy behind this, right? and he also got charged with grand theft auto, before he got a fortune on Viper Car Alarms.
  13. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=68...702110&set_id=1 Ooooooook...
  14. The latest bit of Lima-tology, from the Kansas City Star
  15. maybe the players have sucked so much that they were unable to win with help.
  16. from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (which is now asking for free subscriptions) http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/4008558.html What a load of shit.. The Metrodome is the worst stadium in Baseball. There are so many things wrong with it.
  17. I prefer the extreme slant on Newsmax http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.sht...003/7/25/161516
  18. Rocco Baldelli running in center field after an Everett ground-rule double. Then a fan throws a beer at Rocco and nails him. (I think they did it behind Rocco's back too) The weird thing? they tried that in Wrigley Field, but missed. So, Chicago might have an obsession with throwing beer at Rocco. At least they didn't unleash the duracells. Rocco did refuse to change out of his uniform, but he would probably get fined if he wore a beer-helmet up to bat tomorrow. "Baldelli asks for time, and he's drinking away!"
  19. Kansas City Radio (KMBZ) Denny Matthews (B+) - been with the team since 1969. Good commentator, sounds a bit tired at times Ryan LeFarbe (sp?) (C+) - Much younger, makes up nicknames Fred White (A-) - Semi-retired, still shows up from time to time, good commentator, better chemistry with Ryan Television- Paul Splittorff (B) - Knows what he's talking about. Bob Davis (C-) - Predicts home runs too much, not that good. ----- As for ESPN guys Brantley and Sutcliffe are both morons.
  20. I went to this game at a younger age. But, when somehow, I didn't stay all 9 innings. Sammy Sosa will be a first-ballot guy, especially if he does as I predict and hits 700+ home runs
  21. That was a joke, right? No. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...2151EDT0469.DTL "Jesse Orosco, the Yankees' latest -- and late -- arrival, got loose in the eighth but was not needed. Acquired Tuesday night in a trade with San Diego, the 46-year-old reliever left the West Coast headed for Baltimore, where he thought the game was being played. Orosco was rerouted when he got to Nashville, Tenn., and made it to Yankee Stadium in the sixth. By the end of the inning, he already had changed into his No. 47 jersey and was greeting his new teammates in the bullpen. "Long journey," Orosco said. "There was a mix-up on something, but it worked out.""
  22. Oh yeah.. Orosco's Yankee stint started on a good note he went on his way to Baltimore, but the game was in New York
  23. and then the Dodgers offered him a deal
  24. The Reds turned down Albie Lopez because his elbow was sore. Albie - Amazing long balls included everyday
  25. and I thought you were joking but then again, Orosco will be in the Yankee old timers game next year, right?
