I just rewatched last night's episode and Giles sat down twice and leaned on the kitchen counter once so I don't think it's the First. I like the idea of it being a ghost Giles. And technically didn't the First show itself to more than one person at once in "Conversations..."?

Ubervamp is the one doing the Big Bad's dirtywork since it can't physically touch anything. It obviously still fears sunlight even though stakes do nothing to him. So they need to lure it out into the sunlight. I think you're right. That was the worst beating Buffy ever took. She looked messed up at the end of the episode.

Actually Giles did sit down at one point....don't know if it was a goof up or not since there tends to be a lot of small goofs in Buffy episodes. But then again the First in Spike form sat down in the basement in "Sleeper"

I liked Buffy's speech at the end. Makes it sound like they're going down in a blaze of glory this season. I got my fill of Buffy tonight. "The Zeppo" and "Earshot" were on FX tonight too.
