Third offense? So does this fall under that three strikes thing? Or is that only a California law?

Positioning skills as in ability to hold a mount, sidemount, etc.? I would just imagine that anyone that is good enough to become a BJJ black belt would be well rounded enough to be great on top in addition to having a very good guard. What do you mean by "scrambling"? His ability to dominate when no one has an edge on the mat, like when both fighters are on their knees and jockeying for position or something? -

Rumour has Werdum vs. Nog for NYE. I'd rather watch Russian Cyborgs as well, although I've been going through some old Zuffa PPV's and I'm starting to love the BJ, I wanna get me some of his BJJ World Championship stuff. I find it hard to believe that he was able to win, I mean I guess it must be true, but when I watch him in MMA he doesn't scream "BJJ World Champ bitch!" to me. -

Ogawa was armbarred by Fedor in like a couple of minutes, and I think that speaks more for Ogawa's shittiness than Fedor's awesomeness. Yoshida was dominated of Royce of all people, so this "Grappling extravaganza!" seems to be more of a smoke and mirrors act than anything else. -
Ha, I always figured it was good to get more opinions on the matter. The other thing about gi, I hate training in no gi and not knowing the skill level of my opponent, at least if I spar with a purple belt I can prepare to get my ass kicked.

So the rubber guard is open? I used to think it was just a high guard as well. Not everyone can do it though, you have to be pretty flexible. Quick question for the BJJ practitioners; I like wrestling and I'm gonna start kickboxing soon. I've been doing BJJ for half a year, but I've come to realize that gi jiu jitsu, while more technical, doesn't seem as realistic. Should I stick with gi to learn all the techniques and try to adapt them to no gi? Or should I just stick with no gi? The thing that I don't like about no gi is that there aren't nearly as many techniques involved, so it's not nearly as technical and you can't use as much. In other words, your book of knowledge isn't so vast, since when most people teach no gi they teach a limited number of things. I just figured that if I learned gi I can have the best of both worlds, in that I learn a ton but apply it without the gi as well (and you can too, rather than just grabbing the collar or sleeve grab a wrist or neck). Any info is appreciated, I'm probably gonna ask about this elsewhere as well.

There are a handful of songs I can stand, which is weird since I hate most of that particular genre. Sentimental value I suppose. Not my personal favourite, but one that doesn't get enough love (I don't think Pitchfork placed it even in its 100, and no one seemed to care) is Achtung Baby by U2. Just a great pop rock record from start to finish. Or just pop record, if the term 'pop rock' illicits too many bad images. Loveless is still my favourite though everyone seems to cream themselves over it anyway.

Just to show you how much his appeal crossed fanbases, I've seen this posted even on mma forums, which generally have a big distaste for anything wrestling related. It's kind of surreal to see pro wrestling discussed without getting bashed. Just shows how great Eddy was at what he did. RIP Eddie

Now that he seems like he's back to old form again, do you think he can step back to welterweight and give Hughes a decent fight? -

Has anyone seen a recent pic of Don? He looks...a little overweight. -
I don't know about you, but I generally see these over at Sherdog and the like and they are almost always lame, actually not almost they are always lame. Fortunately here we can hopefully avoid some of the usual crap over there and try to actually get some meaningful discussion out of this. Frank Trigg vs. BJ Penn (at 170) This is a fight that I've always wanted to see, and with the rumours of the ROTR WW Tourney winner facing BJ at 170 it might become a reality. Many things can happen in this fight, and unless Trigg has been figuring out how to work off of his back at least to escape and get up, it should end up in BJ's favour. Odds are that scenario will be played off at least once, since it's inevitable that a fighter the calibre of BJ Penn will find a way to put Frank on his back. HOWEVER, Frank Trigg on top of anyone is deadly, and BJ Penn is not really that great off his back either. So this is very interesting for those reasons. I would have to pick BJ since he is better in more positions than Frank, however if Trigg actually shows something different in winning this tournament, than I can definitely see him finding a way to survive bad positions and proceed to put BJ through hell once he starts to beat on him.

Igor and Kerr were considered the most dominant fighters on the planet at at least one point or another. I wouldn't call them busts per say. But yeah, that list is too long.

LT is probably the most knowledgable person here on the subject of knowledge, since he knows so damn much. I know like three featherweights; Melendez, Menjivar, and Kid. Kid probably shouldn't count since he fights as a LW anyway. I would not vote on anything below WW, since I don't have enough knowledge to judge those ones. Also, what's the standard for LW? If it's 155, than guys like Gomi wouldn't count and stuff, because he fights at 160. But then if you make it 60, all the guys who are successful at 160 cut a huge amount of weight and dwarf guys that fight at 155, like Gomi against Kawajiri, or Sakurai against Pulver.

Lawler has recently moved up in weight, though if the UFC calls him back and tells him to move down to 170 I can see it happening. Cummo vs. Guillard seems like a good fight at this point.

Triangle choke is the original name, so that should give you the idea of its original intention. The whole point is that you block the oxygen to the opponent's brain by putting your leg on one side and squeezing with his own arm on the other of his neck. The free arm there is to be taken in case he doesn't defend it properly and the choke itself isn't really working out for you. Major fighting styles in MMA are pretty Muay Thai Kickboxing, Western Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Freestyle Wrestling. You also have Judo, and Sambo. Another one is Catch Wrestling like the stuff they do in Takada Dojo. Those are the only "useful" ones that I can think of. Wrestling is probably the most efficient or important one to have, but that's just my opinion.

Who is this Jeff Newton? I heard he's some weird karate guy. At least stuff like that would make me laugh.

I don't think you should blow your load with that 57 card. No need to put THREE title matches on it. Just leave the LHW one, and save the WW and MW titles for the next show. The problem with every division below LHW in the UFC is that they are not treated as being on the same level. Letting them headline their own shows would solve that problem, and the only way to do that without avoiding the growing pains of having those shows bomb is by doing it while they have stars to build in those divisions, much like the TUF coaches. It's time that all the divisions started to gain equal respect, and right now is the perfect time to do it.

It should be a select panel, with the regulars that post here on it. If I were to make a guess, that would be LT, RRR, Brian, BR4L and myself. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple, but those are the ones that come to mind the quickest.

What fighters are you digging right now?

I'd love to see BJ rematch Hughes for the WW TItle. I don't think it would go like the first time. Contrary to what he might have said, I think Hughes did take him lightly. BJ isn't the greatest off of his back either, for a BJJ black belt anyways, so I can easily see Matt GnP'ing the crap out of him for a decision/TKO. -

How great was this show? I only saw the first two fights and most people are talking about how it's the best UFC show ever. I just find that hard to believe with only four fights, not matter how good they are. Is it better than UFC 52 or 49? How good was Imes' fight and Diego's fight? -
Hey Bob, you know Peel Pub is notorious for recycling their shit eh?
