***** Albums in Your Collection

I am one of those that will disagree with you on The Cure - Disintegration, as I picked it up expecting greatness and was sorely disappointed. As for my picks: Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Pixies - Bossanova, Doolittle, Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa The Smiths – The Queen Is Dead, Meat Is Murder, Nirvana – Nevermind Radiohead – The Bends and OK Computer There are probably a lot more, but I’m going by what other would call ***** albums. While I really don’t go by star ratings, if I were to do so I’d have a much higher standard. I’m of the thought process that a ***** album means it’s perfect, and that you like it for personal reasons in addition to its technical merits. Doolittle would probably be it for me, or maybe Siamese Dream, which many would say is a ***** album as well. The Queen Is Dead too. -
My Acclaimed Return to the Main Page

Hey now.... Pat Tillman is an all-pro. And I found the article to just seem lazy or rushed or something, just illicited a "meh" response. Basically, I found your gimmickry to be much better, especially Metal Ed. -
Normally, I'd know something like this was a joke. But with you, I seriously can't tell. I also am wondering the same thing as Kinetic; fuck the A-Rabs now? Heh, I always laugh when I hear people say the 'A' like they would "A-Rod".

Silva-Kondo is apparently off now, due to a leg injury suffered by Silva. I bet if I were to go to the Sherdog MB I would see one hundred "WANDERLEI IS DUCKING KONDO!~" posts. Rampage v. Arona is probably off as well. Oh well, we finally get to see Almeida fight in PRIDE, along with the return of the Ronin against Daiju Takase, which could be a clinic on grappling. I certainly look forward to it. -
Sports Feats You'd Like to See...
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Jorge Gorgeous's topic in Sports
Cuba Gooding Jr. is in the movie as well. Everyone talks about consecutive streaks and all, but 56 games ain't as hard to break as 30 games with at least one TD pass. That's one that will never be broken, in my opinion, and anyone who does will probably be the greatest quarterback ever. No, I'm not talking about Tom Brady. Who said that they wanted high schoolers in professional football? That shi'ite's fucked up. It's not a record, and even if it were, why would you wanna see that? Keep it for guys that are least twenty. -
What's that word, like objective? Its in our perogative? Prerogative? Whatever. You're a big country fan eh? That wouldn't be so bad if it was older kickass stuff like Hank Williams Sr. or Johnny Cash. This Garth Brooks and Shania Twain crap don't cut it, so if no one listens to the original, naturally they won't get the "obscure" references.

Yeah I was like What the fuck? when I first saw that. Another Mark Coleman moment has to be when he won the GP, and bounced off the ropes. Classic. I guess most of Mark's classic moments have very little to do with him fighting, let alone winning. -
Nobody brags about liking Fozzy methinks. But hey, if that's a band you want to see, have a good time I guess.

I was watching PRIDE 10 the other day, and Igor's GnP is fucking sick. He doesn't really have the wrestling skills, but if he did he'd be an even bigger monster then now. He should train at like Hammer House or something, as his stocky powerhouse build seems ideal. It was like Nog v. Fyodor in a sense, as he just attacked Enson's triangle, without fear, and dominated him from it, slipping all of his submissions. Enson had a nice tennis ball-sized lump after the match, and couldn't even stand up on his own willpower. -

His GP win was pretty lame though, considering how it all went down. I'd say that most of his UFC wins were against guys that don't fight anymore or don't make a name for themselves anymore, that should tell you about that. I don't know, I just don't think it's possible for someone so one-dimensional to succeed in MMA, no matter how good of a wrestler he is. His fight against Minotauro was great, as he probably knew that he'd get subbed on the ground, and when he realized he could not stand with him, he was forced to take him down and the inevitable would happen. Of course, we didn't know that at the time, but still. -
That was a lame wrestling joke involving the Chris Benoit and Tom Billington and well, yeah. Unless you're trying to bring Mark Rocco into this, I will just assume that you didn't get my joke.

Francois Botha did contend for the World Title though if I remember correctly, or at least he hovered around the scene. He lost to guys that are at the bottom of the barrel at K1, so yeah, he ain't great or anything. The thing is, all Royce would have to do is take Tyson down, which shouldn't be that hard since Mike was never used to defending the takedown. He'd have to be smart about not getting hit, but odds are he'd be able to get the takedown before getting hit by anything other than a jab. But, I admit a right straight would go through his skull. Royce is about as one dimensional as Mike is though, since he's all BJJ and nothing else. He represents a lot of things in MMA though, in my opinion, since he was the guy that beat men twice his size, in two minutes, never lost by his own will, etc., which is why I used him. He's like the guy that brought MMA to the mainstream I think, but I'm probably giving him more credit than I should. Training regimens are probably stricter for boxing, since there are so many complicated factors in MMA. For instance, a boxer should work thickens his abs to make his ability to take a punch that much greater, and is generally built like a brick shit house in order to help their power and such. In MMA, that can be a bad thing, as more muscles means that your conditioning is generally worse, not to mention that you are less flexible and are more prone to submissions. So, it makes sense that they don't hit the weights as much. Look at the guys that are most dominant. Most of the time they're not guys that would strike you as fighters were you to pass them on the street. My basic point is that boxing is one aspect of fighting, and since MMA combines all the different aspects, it requires more skill and is more exciting to watch. Styles make fights.

That's not entirely true. Boxing also requires full body movement (to avoid punches), and footwork. Why else would boxers jump rope to train? Obviously they work on their footwork, which has to be perfect in order to perfect their power, quickness, etc. But I'm saying, when you break it down, they just punch each other. Their offense consists of hitting the guy with their fist. Naturally, punching someone requires movement of your body to maximize its effect, but yeah, just punching. No low kicks, no muay thai knees in the clinch, etc. That's my point, and I didn't even get into the nuances of the ground game. I just realized that Botha LOST all of his K1 matches, and Shannon Briggs has had one, where he beat a WRESTLER in a "kick" boxing match(in quotes because its quite clear that it was basically a boxing match). Also, K1 is a bad example since the politics of any Fight organization in Japan is worthy of a topic on its own. Many of the shows are run in a pro wrestling fashion.

Since I don't wanna start a new thread... What does everyone think of Mark Coleman? I really only got into MMA around late 2002-early2003, so I missed his glory days, so to speak. He seems purely one-dimensional, but his record is like that of Tito Ortiz in my opinion, whereas he has beaten guys that are clearly beneath him, yet gets beaten pretty badly when he is fighting someone of equal calibre. He's also kind of boring, and he doesn't do anything but wrestle. Still, I'd like to hear what you guys think. -
Well he's your idol Peggy, so saying you don't hate him is a bit of a understatement.
-
The only thing I can think of is that he has started making a habit out of whining and bitching every time a black person is cut from a reality show competition and things of that nature. I wouldn't call it "racism" per say, just "really fucking annoying." I vaguely recall him getting pissed off when some umpire made some racist comment at a Jewish baseball commissioner or something, and even after his apology Wilbon was still pissed. Kornheiser who is Jewish wrote it off really, but Wilbon had no tolerance for such things. I just find it hard that a guy who hates other guys that make racist douchebag comments can be a racist himself, especially since he's a big fan of many white players, and coaches. Yeap, all the signs of a racist.
-
*BUMP* I'm legit curious you know; how is Michael Wilbon a racist?

You obviously don't know a lot about boxing. Anyone can get hit in the face and throw a few punches back... but fighting and boxing are two very different things. I am by no means an expert, but I DO know enough to know that boxing requires a highly developed set of skills and techniques. The fact that MMA requires highly-skilled techniques for many more aspects of fighting makes it that much harder, not to mention the fact that Mixed martial artist to be completely skilled in all aspects is impossible, and that there are so many different approaches and styles, etc. etc. But never mind all that, boxing is the most difficult sport. What the fuck ever. Boxing has a depleted talent pool these days, at least compared with boxing's past. Athletes are going towards football, basketball etc... I would assume that they're doing this because there're more opportunities to be involved, it pays better and you're not going to come out of your career with serious brain damage (Certain football players aside.) However, you cannot make these same considerations for MMA. You mean to tell me that the various MMA fighters with striking skills are forsaking $10 million contracts to go tough it out in the Pride and UFC ranks? You would insinuate that Bas Rutten(sp) or Tito Ortiz would rather do more work for less money for some unspoken reason? The reason that UFC people are in UFC and prize fighters are duking it out for gigantic purses is because UFC fighters can't stand in a boxing ring with a prize fighter. I'm sure you've seen a menagerie of impresive things in MMA fights, so have I, and I'm not detracting anything from their skill... but watch Roy Jones stick his chin out, inviting a punch, and then a split second later knock a highly trained fighter out cold. Watch Mike Tyson do so much as TRAIN when he was in his prime... his hands are coming faster than you can blink and they're coming harder than you or I can even fathom. How else do you explain the fact that Tyson is taking MMA contracts AFTER he washed out of boxing? Because hes bored? What the fuck ever. I guess most difficult sport is different than the one that requires the most skills than? Boxing IS one-dimensional, and focuses on nothing but punching. Obviously his hands are quick as lightning, when has he had to develop anything else? The reason these guys aren't boxers is because that's not what they were brought up in. They come from different disciplines, it's not as simple as "Well he tried to be a boxer, but couldn't, so went into the UFC". If that were the case than we'd have a Toughman on our hands. Has Mike Tyson ever trained to block a takedown? Has he ever tried to avoid a kimura? No, because he can't. Don't bring K-1 into this, as I said MMA. The reason there's not as much injury in a sport like MMA is because people tap when a submission hold is applied. They don't go all the way because doing so would cause permanent damage. It's a sport, so your opponent is given a chance to tap before succumbing to permanent injury. That speaks much more for the brutality of MMA, or the potential of such, as Iron Mike fought again after getting KOed by Douglas. They pulled no punches, and held nothing back. If a guy like Royce Gracie was to hold nothing back, he'd end Iron Mike's career. Hell, he could KILL him if he didn't let go of a choke. Such displays of brutality are prevented, because they're not animals people. Mike Tyson in his prime vs. Royce Gracie nowadays? I'd still take Royce, without a doubt. There's also a much better chance of Royce killing Mike than vice versa. Seriously. What the fuck ever indeed.

He's filipino I'm sure, many Filipinos I know have hispanic sounding last names, what with the way history has worked out and all. Odd question, but how come sex never came up in the show? You'd think that they'd at least have one eps dedicated to the topic, I mean they alluded to it like a couple of times at least I'm sure. -
I'm Canadian, it's not my fault.

I'm pro-life yet I am for gay marriages. I guess I'm extreme on both sides of the spectrum

Most people did. He's personally one of my favourite fighters that aren't in the big two right now, although after seeing him in Lytle's corner at UFC 47, I think there's a chance that they might pick him up. They should, he's got a very good ground game plus he can trade. -
"Let's Say" is meaningless, when it happens, you have a point. Besides, I didn't know that the anti-American opinion of most people was reflected by the gov't as well. It should be pointed out that in Canada, everybody is either thankful we're not America or wishes we were, aka liberal or conservative. Just out of curiousity, are there any Americans that would rather live in Canada than the US? I know of very few Canadians that would live in USA, mostly due to the crime problems and such. Toronto is getting up there though, admittedly.
