Thing is, MMA fighters train so hard at so many aspects, while K-1 fighters (at least, the truly awesome ones) train exclusively stand up. K-1 heavyweight fighters throw punches just as fast as MMA middleweights do (which, imo, means Fedor would probably get KO'd pretty quickly). They also (obviously) throw lots more strikes. One (average) round of K-1 action probably has more clean strikes than 3 rounds of (average) MMA action. You've got to watch out for punches, knees and kicks much more intently than in an MMA match, meaning your stand up defence has GOT to be great. Using three of your examples, Silva, Liddell and Fedor - those guys would have to work extremely hard on improving their stand up defence if they wanted to be successful in K-1. There's also the accuracy issue - K-1 fighters, again due to their extensive training, being much more accurate than MMA fighters. Going into detail regarding arguably the top striker in MMA today, Wanderlei Silva... Silva would get counter-attacked so hard and fast, he wouldn't know what hit him. His favourite weapon - the clinch knee - is almost disabled as K-1 rules only allow one (fluid) clinch knee at a time. You're not allowed to just hold on and knee and knee and knee like Silva does. However, his fight with Mirko was great and showed signs that if Silva concentrated solely on stand up, he'd be a force in kickboxing at a 205 pound level. Shame K-1 no longer promotes that weight class. At the end of the day, I think most MMA fighters (even the best ones) wouldn't get far in K-1, and neither would many K-1 fighters be successful in MMA (unless they developed a sprawl as godly as Mirko's). Oh I knew why they wouldn't be as good, I was just curious as to who they might fare. "Fantasy booking" if you weel. -

Two quick stupid questions not to do with K1: 1) Who is the best fighter in the Gracie family? I would have said Royce before for obvious reasons but I've heard otherwise. 2) What sort of background does Kazushi have? He's dominated Gracies on the ground and can take down the best of them, but isn't he just a Pro Wrestler? Someone explain this to me, as I am not really familiar with the whole aura surrounding Saku. -

The Lee Murray fight is actually against a guy named Joe "Diesel" Riggs. I'm interested to see Dennis Hallman, I've only seen him fight twice, both aganist Matt "I'm a monster that beats the shit out of everyone" Hughes...he won both of those fights. Back to K-1, I don't think the takedown thing was much of a factor against Silva, as Silva preferred to stand and trade, and he played the right game as he sat back and waited. Naturally nobody is his weight in K-1, but if there was LHW division I think he could take care of things. I think Quinton has a very basic style but is extremely tough with lots of power and that he can do well in a K-1 LHW division as well, if such a division existed. I enjoy talking about MMA guys in K-1, so let's do this some more. Mind you, keep in mind not all of these guys are Heavies; Rizzo, Belfort, Liddell, Rutten in his prime, and I heard BJ Penn is thinking of going to K-1, making that like the third guy to drop a title in the UFC. Oh yeah, add Arlovski to that list. EDIT: Forgot to add, they're not making the Heavyweight fight a title fight due to the fact that Arlovski has essentially "earned" that right after his win over Cabbage. -

I personally think Bonjasky will be higher eventually, and I know that Sapp isn't technically that great, but a victory over Hoost deserves honourable mention, not to mention two. I also think Gary Goodridge should get an honourable mention. He's had some good fights, beat Bernardo, lost a close decision to Hunt, not to mention he's a very aggressive fighter who fears nothing. Since you seem to know K1, where would you rank the best strikers in MMA among those guys? Fedor destroyed Goodridge standing, Wanderlei kneed Quinton to oblivion, and let's not forget Yvel's sick high kick at PRIDE 10 against Gary... -

You can find it at the Toronto Sun website. Just fluff anyway. Okay, I have a question; I know PRIDE didn't announce their matches to the public, but do they at least announce it to the fighters beforehand? If I were to get a notice a week before a fight I wouldn't do it. I mean seriously, do the fighters know they're fighting at least, or are they kept in the dark as well? Not telling the fans is one thing, not telling the fighter who will be participating is another. I just find it hard to believe that a guy like Quinton was able to knock out Abidi. He's vastly improving. I agree about him being really good or really shitty. How would you rank Mirko in his prime versus the best K1 fighters? I imagine he'd rank high, but I'm not quite sure. -
I really don't care about it all that much on a hockey-related note, but this is fucked up and I'm curious to see how the media will react to it. Since he's not that high profile they won't be all over it, but still, anytime a professional athlete gets in trouble with the law, or even is charged with MURDER, it's a big fucking deal, especially when it's as weird a situation as this one is.

I agree, but his fight was the best on the card, against Cyril Abidi. I wasn't a big fan of the tournament as a whole, I mean Musashi made it to the finals but that isn't indicative of his skill or anything. Sefo was fucking around and Aerts was tired. But yeah, Abidi's fight with Botha was a real grudge match. That kick at the end was sweet, and I don't know how good Abidi really is since Rampage knocked him out. Didn't Tyson knock Botha out? I think a great match up for Tyson would be with Le Banner personally. That motherfucker has POWER. Mike Tyson has POWER. Someone will be knocked out with POWER. -
Publie Enemy was racist now? When did I say that PE was racist? He was asking whether or not Dead Prez is militant like PE and I said that they're more extreme because they'll take the "Kill Whitey" stance. For example, from "Fuck the Law" off the Get Free or Die Trying Mixtape: "Slap a white boy, snuff your landlord. Smash the windows, break the camcorder. Rob the corner store, rob the precinct..." And even with that, I'm a little hesitant to call them a racist group, because they're more anti-establishment than they are anti-white. Hell, most of their fans *are* white. When you said that they were more extreme than PE was in that respect, I assumed you meant kill whitey. My bad.

The real question is, who here would vote for him? -
Publie Enemy was racist now? I'm gonna play the white conservative card on this one; did they outright say "I hate white people"? Or are you just reading into what they're saying? I d/l Hip Hop, and I'm glad I did because I knew I had heard the Chappelle's show theme somewhere, just didn't have the name.

This picture makes me laugh. The fact that they're at a peace rally makes it even better. They don't seem like the usual hippies though, for some reason, and I'd like to see someone try to take that up with them. There's a bunch of updates on the PRIDE English site, just for those interested. -
That happens to me a lot too, I should probably be called the "Thread Killer" or something equally lame. Whether that's something to be proud of or not I don't know, probably not.

Seeing as how I am not that knowledgable when it comes to the straight up stand up game, what do you think of Tyson's chances? If you go by the "this fighter beat this fighter so he has also beaten this fighter" line of thinking, well, if he beat Sapp, which he probably would, than he can beat Hoost. Silly, but it's not the same as MMA. I mean really, I know technically kickboxers are more skilled on their feet, but is there anyone with the sheer power that Tyson has, or can take it, or anyone that can knock him out? I am guessing that K-1's top guy from what I can tell, Bonjavski, would probably get KTFO. Correct me if I'm wrong folks. -
Yeah it worked. Thanks a lot. Not my favourite episode, but still had its moments.

Well, if you can find a link for last night's episode, that would be good. I missed it and can't find it anywhere on Kazaa.

"What is a Badunkadunk?" That's the first thought that popped into my head, along with "Hangin' in a jury."

Ninja-Kharitanov and Fedor-Coleman are the matches I'm most looking forward to. I enjoy watching Ninja more than Shogun, but he seems the more natural heavyweight in the family. I'm not complaining though. It's really great to have eight matches of this sort of calibre, I mean, not all are great, but this has HYPE written all over it, as it's meant to pump up the fans for the next show. I feel the same way for this as I did as a kid watching the older Royal Rumbles, as odd as that may sound. A sixteen man tournament is insane, and when you have like only two matches that will be weak, toss in the fact that there will be a great MW match thrown on there, and this card will definitely be the best of the year so far. Kharitanov is an animal, I mean sure, he only fought LA Giant, but he used to roll with Fedor at Russian Top Team so you know he has game. He's aggressive, with good takedowns, submissions, and technically sound standup. Ninja Rua is Murilo 'Ninja' Rua, that's all you need to know. How a man that looks exactly like Adam Sandler, gut and all, can have the best cardio in the sport beats me, but that's just how he is. Fedor-Coleman is probably the main event, and unlike Gary-Fedor, this is the REAL changing of the guard, although I personally consider Igor fighter of the first GP, but whatever. -
I coulda sworn that you were older, like around 22 or something. Don't know why. I've always thought about getting a tattoo, but until I find something that I won't regret the week after, it'll be inkless for me.

Forgive my ignorance of you GPA system, but what's the difference between weighted and unweighted? I had an 87 average for my first semester, mid terms at second are 87, average for my top six courses are....87. What the fuck ever. I don't know about the rankings, but last year I was 22 out of 324. I think I would actually rise, considering my average was higher, but everyone turns it up senior year, so I don't know.

What other reasons? The FCC clamping down on anything that's not a 1950's sitcom. I know Bush isn't in charge of the FCC, but he put Michael Powell (who I'm sure had a rigorous job interview...) in that spot. The pandering to the religious right and generally adopting a religion-driven agenda. The recent bill he signed protecting the "rights" of unborn children. I see this as the first step to making abortion illegal, which is something I would strongly disagree with. Basically, I think Bush is a Jesus Freak, and I wish he and his fellow Bible thumpers would stop trying to force their fucking beliefs on everyone. Tolerance means that you put up with other belief systems, not that you legislate yours across the board. Hmm? I originally thought that was sarcasm. I always found you as the kind of guy who values foreign and economic policy more than social, as most people do. I guess you just value porn more than the war on nothing. Your choice. Honestly, I don't think he's pandering, I think he honestly feels this way. There's no secret that he's strong about his beliefs, and if he feels that what he's doing is right, than I suppose he will do it. Of course, I'm one of the few on the board that is Pro-life, except in the obvious cases, like rape, incest, endangerment of the mother's life. In fact, didn't GWB say the same thing? Seems reasonable. Either way, it's nice to see someone in CE who isn't so devoted to one particular party and doesn't treat this like some sort of college football game. "GWB WILL WHOOP YOUR ASS COME NOVEMBER....BITCH~!"

Sort of like Silva's mat game, then, only not as good. I thought Punches were outlawed in Pancrase. Either way, two skilled strikers should make for an entertaining fight. I wouldn't knock his ground game, but I'd say he's not as strong there as he is standing. If I were to predict the fighter that beats him, it would have to be a skilled grappler. Most didn't give Yoshida a chance in Hell, but he came closer than Jackson did. I'm not saying Yuki chances are good, but surprises do happen. Fedor's stand-up is definitely better than Coleman's, but I think both their reliance on Ground and Pound is fairly obvious, hence my comment about them being similar fighters. I'm not so sure about Fedor being unbeatable. His stand-up is great, but judging from the damage Fujita was able to inflict on him, I have my doubts as to whether he could stand with Cro Cop or another high-level striker. I don't think a skilled grappler can beat Silva on the ground. He's spent like what, five, six years obtaining his belt? It's not bullshit like Vitor's either, who was a purple under a Gracie and then left, all of a sudden getting a black belt. Yoshida didn't do anything in the match that really stood out, he didn't come close to a submission. He just put him on the ground and held him there. Wand was actually more active on the ground than he, if I remember correctly. The reason Yoshida hung in there is because his ground game is better than Wand's, and like I said he just held him down, didn't really do anything of note. Surprises may happen, but when one fighter is clearly better at everything than the other, does anyone give them a chance? Coleman is so much worse standing, and probably doesn't know any submissions. Fedor is a great wrestler, is great at both submissions and escaping them, and has destroyed a guy standing that hung in with people in K1. He uses GnP, but he doesn't rely on it. Coleman is a LnP fighter anyways, I'd hardly call it GnP. He took Fujita lightly, I wouldn't really count that against him. What my point is, that if a wrestler can't beat him by putting him on his back, or if he can't put him on his back as a worldclass wrestler like Coleman should, I don't see how you can beat Fedor, I don't see a chink in his armour so to speak. -

Wand has recently obtained his black belt in BJJ, and there was one time where he almost put Sak in a Triangle, so don't knock his ground game. Not saying you are, but others might. Yuki doesn't have a chance in this one. I mean, Wand's standup is better, his groundgame is better, and Wand's intelligence is underrated. How can Yuki beat him? Download Wand's Highlight vid at Sherdog, pretty good FIFTEEN minute mini-bio really. I don't know why you'd want Kondo to win. I bet you would've wanted Taka to beat HHH that time too Cro Cop will kill Randleman, and I don't think Fedor is a similar fighter to Coleman. Fedor's standup skills are disgusting, while Coleman couldn't handle Nog's, thus taking him down and getting submitted. Of course, this brings up the question; how is Fedor on his back? We've never seen, and we're likely to see his skills get tested. He's the most intelligent fighter out there though, so don't be surprised to see him whip up a fantastic gameplan. His takedown defense will come into play in this one, and if Coleman can't get him on his back or keep him there, we will know that Fedor is invincible and will fucking retire with that title. -

You don't understand how long I have been looking for that. It's gone now, so if you can find it or any others it would be fucking awesome. I really want Fujita's theme too. It's kickass, "do or die" feel.
