Sean Sherk is thanking the stars because this is the most publicity he's gotten in his life. Not too long ago he was content to be a framer for a living. How times change. -

If he had a year of training, then he wouldn't be a boxer, he'd be a mixed martial artist. That only proves the point further. While Art Jimmerson is nowhere near as good as PBF in a P4P sense, he still was a world class boxer at the time (amassing a 35-10 record or something along those lines). A lot of things could have been different, like his strategy or what have you, but the point is he got dominated by someone sixty lbs lighter than him and was taken down by a horrible, HORRIBLE wrestler. I would even argue that he was faster than Royce, with the size advantage. Anyone that has wrestled will tell you that at the elite level ten pounds is a lot, hence why we have weightclasses. For a guy like Royce with minimal wrestling training to have taken down a guy that much bigger than him so quick, just goes to show you the amount of work needed to develop your wrestling. Let's not get into the fact that Sherk is one of the most consistent fighters you will find, rarely underperforms, and is actually a pretty well-rounded fighter. Arguably a BJJ black belt level of grappling, if not a brown at least, along with world-class wrestling skills (I said it), great conditioning, immense strength and one of the biggest hearts in the sport. He outstruck Nick Diaz on the feet, who is a pro boxer. Until PBF can outwrestle a D-1 level wrestler, I won't have any doubt as to what would happen in this fight. -

There's no way in hell Floyd avoids Sherk's shot for fifteen seconds, let alone minutes. I know a lot of boxing fans are enamoured with his physical gifts, as they should be, but a basic sprawl is something he has no concept of. It takes guys years to develop a good wrestling base, he can't avoid that with good footwork alone. Sherk would either do the helmet defense, clinch up with PBF and take him down, or he would shoot in from the outside, bullrush Floyd and take him down. I'm amazed at the amount of people who think otherwise. It doesn't matter how great an athlete you are, when you are in that unfamiliar setting and you have to worry about all aspects of the game, you're gonna perform worse than your potential, which is what would happen with Floyd. Hell, even if he were one hundred percent confident, it still wouldn't change the fact that his wrestling ability is zero. Why am I even arguing this? Everybody go rent UFC I. -

I change it as and when the next piece of news comes in, so people know it's been posted. I generally copy and paste the headlines from the articles posted, so if they're in all caps it's because that's how it was in the article and I don't feel like re-typing it. It didn't. Not even close. Fair enough, I was just wondering about the headlines thing. To be honest it's generally pretty useful, for the reasons you stated. I hope Chuck wins, as usual. He probably will. He is consistent as anyone. Everybody he's faced since Vernon White has been a natural athlete that could strike, and yes I'm including Tito. Babalu fought like a dumbass though. Randy Couture is the most NATURAL athlete. C'mon. -

Also who keeps changing the subtitle? I'm curious. I didn't know you could do that. -

Causing controversy with DLH means ticket sales, but with the UFC it doesn't mean much. He was saying that because MMA is growing fast in popularity but he, and everyone else, wanted this fight to be the biggest match of the decade and to be a kick in the ass for boxing's popularity. I didn't see the fight, but heard it didn't live up to the hype. If it did crazy numbers than all the MMA talk may have only helped MMA since most people would have been bored by the fight but would have been intrigued by this "UFC stuff". I don't know, much like the Mike Freeman stuff this was a non-story from the beginning, and the fact that the broadcasters brought it up after the fight means that they are insecure about the UFC's drawing power. He apologized now because if he didn't people would expect him to step in, and he would never do that knowing the consequences and also the lack of money involved. Although the nature of this apology combined with things he said before the fight only make him look like a bitch, especially after he said he could whoop that ass, and Dana said he'd get his ass whooped. This is supposed to be the stamp on his career (a win over an aging, shot fighter by the way) and the biggest thing people seem to be talking about is the UFC. -

I ignored this guy from the beginning. He's got no influence and warrants no press whatsoever. It doesn't surprise me that the idiots at Sherdog are all over this, but I am a little shocked that people on here are so interested. Who cares, fuck 'em. -
I disagree with you completely. Leben vs. Starnes should be loads of fun (watch Starnes murder Leben, no lie). Salaverry vs. Martin should be real good, Salaverry is a world class MW who sometimes has the tendency to back off a little bit, but Martin is a gamer with HUUUUGE power so Salaverry will be brought into the fight no problem. Those are four good-great fights out of a possible five on the main card, and there is lots of potential in some of the undercard bouts, especially since Schafer will come in better shape this time and be able to impose his game more. We know Salmon is a great wrestler considering what he did to Evans so this should be a good grappling match. I don't think I need to sell anyone on Silva vs. Irvin. I am disappointed about Jardine, but apparently nobody wants to fight him and man up. Hardly the UFC's fault with that one.

While I've recently started to appreciate Royce for his accomplishments, I still think this is a stupid idea. If anything, it will serve as a nice example of how far MMA has evolved since their first bout. Its purpose is purely ironic. -

For Carlito; Anderson had a falling out with Chute Boxe so he doesn't really get along with any of them anymore. Is UFC 70 at 9 or 10? I heard it was 9 but I assumed that was the start of some pre-show shit. -
They had big draws for coaches. Season One coaches became big draws AFTER the show, so it is possible for it to progress and get good ratings, as long as it is good television, which this season is.

All covers albums are generally mistakes.
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in Music
It just came off like you were saying Prince's sneer was a detriment. Never mind. But yeah, I like the Dump album, the Pop Life track being my favourite. -
I'm admittedly not a big fan of either, so I don't have enough knowledge to compare. But the music itself seems to be very different. If you're concerned with vocals, sure it's similar I guess, though Michael obviously would have had much more range than Hanson. The J5 songs seem to be much more soulful, as it sounds like they have someone competent behind the boards. The melodies seem to be much better written than Hanson's mid-90s radio alt trash.

I really like the Dump album, but the sneer that Prince brings is what makes him great. I would say that the Dump album is great on its own terms and represents what a cover is really supposed to be; taking a completely different spin on a great song and still keeping it great. -
I Would disagree with this. While I'm not that fond of the Jackson 5, and would never call them a classic group, I find them to be perfectly acceptable motown fare, while Hanson is just awful. They remind me of music you'd hear on a Veggietales soundtrack, if such a thing exists. I think you're really reaching with this comparison.

I saw him destroy Jorge Santiago before it started and I was like "yeap, this is gonna be the TUF 5 winner". Thing is, the results have already been leaked, but I don't wanna know them. I'm guessing Wiman or Maynard fights Manny in the final. Manny "The Iron Sheik" Gamburyan. "I will prove he is the leakest wink". "It's been my dream to fight in the USC".

It was RINGS, but they are defunct so you don't have to worry. -
Didn't you guys read the sign and link I posted earlier? It said "Nigger brown". I didn't post it because I thought she was ugly, read the story. That's hilarious.

Yeah I saw that. Why would you wanna join the military anyway? I assumed from your Anti-Bush comment (man that was an awesome time) that you wouldn't really want to be fighting in this war anyway, or fighting for similar reasons. -

The irony of this one is astounding. There's no irony. You're a moron. All the people complaining about reverse racism (which is fucking absurd in its own right), shut the fuck up. Eric, take a line from one of your favourite shows, South Park, and realize "you don't get it." Ripper's post about groups of people saying offensive terms in context is pretty apt. Also, why do people argue so much as to why they can't say a word? Of course you can say it, say it all you want, just realize the power of the word and that if you say it in some circles, you might piss someone off. The Amazing Racist, Mel Brooks, and countless other comedians have used the word nigger and not in the most affectionate way either. If you make a racist joke and it's not funny, then it's just racist. Michael Richards felt that one. If it comes off as funny, then you won't really have a problem. It's amazing to me, the amount of racism in this thread (and it is racism). People assuming every black person likes to say the word nigger and doesn't like white people to use the word are just being ignorant. There's plenty of black people who disagree on white people using the word as well as other black people. There are also lots of black people who don't mind it so much, and applauded Trey and Matt (two white guys from Colorado) for their portrayal of the word. I'm with Ripper on this one. I'll never know what it feels like to be a persecuted middle class white male, without the full rights to free speech. Eric should just put a piece of tape over his mouth and write the word nigger on it. That'll get the message across.

You can, but I'm not gonna argue with someone as stupid as you. He shouldn't be fired, but this thing has been blown so out of proportion that it seems likely that he will be.
