The (You-Tube) Shoot-Style Thread
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in General Wrestling
Okay I watched it, and maybe I over-analyzed, but I wasn't that impressed. I suppose it was pro wrestling, so a lot of your disbelief must be suspended, but most of it down to the finish seemed unrealistic. I won't say it isn't anything special, because it definitely is different than most of what you'd get in pro wrestling. However, the realness is still lacking a little bit and there were more than a few spots I could easily say "that doesn't work" or "he doesn't look like he's fighting, he's laying there waiting for the other guy". Again, it should be expected since this is pro wrestling, and maybe my expectations are high, but I assumed these guys would try to mix excitement with realism, and I don't think I got enough of the latter. -

Most of those early shoot style pro wrestlers weren't as dangerous as they were claimed, and to make things worse for the Mike Reilly's of the world, a lot of those so called "legitimate" matches were worked. How do you think guys could go for an hour and then tap to an STF? A good comparison would be someone like Bas Rutten in terms of grappling, or Ken Shamrock. The style of catch wrestling is not as effective as some would have you believe. Regardless, I still enjoy shoot style quite a bit. I will be checking some more stuff on Youtube if it's available. -
Nah it won't make me a fan again. Sorry.

I liked it for the most part, some songs I didn't care for but that's bound to happen. I thought you mixed it all really well though. If you were to invest in some turntables and records and decided to become a DJ I wouldn't call you crazy.

What the hell? In the first post you made it sound like your "Stressed out drinking days" were long behind you, when only last week you would have been content to get drunk everyday? You're not over it, you've just had a slow week.
-
I'm most surprised about Agent's answer. I would have pegged him as someone that gets trashed often. I get drunk not too often, once every week, sometimes two weeks really.

The Great Elbow Debate
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I don't understand what you mean when you say Riggs/Doerkson and Trigg/Charuto weren't entertaining because of the elbows. That's a very subjective point first of all. Second of all, rules shouldn't be made to make the fight game more entertaining, they should make it to resemble a fight within a sport with rules to protect the fighters, A fight is entertaining in and of itself. So whether a fight is entertaining because of one particular weapon (again, highly subjective) is not a valid point. You wanna speculate about what might happen, that's fine. It's not that hard to figure out. Why do you think the refs use judgement as to when to stop a fight? You only speculate, for all you know after Nate Quarry had the stiff leg he could have come back, it was stopped early. For all you know when Chuck Liddell was getting beat on by Randy Couture it was stopped early, he wasn't out cold. All speculation. But nobody argues with those fights, the reason being because we don't need to wait it out for the worst to happen. The same with a cut. It's not hard to figure out that a helluva lot of blood loss is a helluva lot. PRIDE isn't the best org to count on when it comes to professionalism. They let TK keep fighting Fedor with a cut on his *eyelid*. I hate to see this devolve into a PRIDE vs UFC thing, but to say elbows are lucky you might as well say knees are lucky too. Should we ban them? Cabbage shouldn't have gotten that win over tank with that knee, it was a bullshit stoppage. Don't believe me? Check out the rematch when Tank showed who the better fighter was. Should we start to ban knees as well? If you wanna make it as close to real fighting as possible, than your argument lies not in getting rid of the elbows, which is a valid technique, but rather the stoppage of cuts in determining who is the real fighter. In that case, we might as well bring strikes to the spine and back of the head while we're at it -
Gino is what you call those italian guys that have slicked back hair, tapered pants and the tight shirts. You know, all those guys in jersey that try to be tough guys and stuff with the fake tans and spiked hair, I think their pictures came on this site not too long ago. Gino beats are the music they listen to, I guess others call it "freestyle" or something. The Alice Deejay song is a good example of that.

No one actually put in Andre vs. Hogan? In my mind that's the ultimate WWF Championship bout, and nothing will ever surpass it in that regard, in terms of drawing power, heat, hype and sheer drama.

The Great Elbow Debate
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Well then he's not really arguing with you is he? It seems like he's just trying to agree with you. Though I don't agree that matt hughes win was flukish. He slammed a guy, was the first one to come to, and had Big John not been there he would have been pounding on Newton who didn't come to for a while. Kurt Angle does a triangle choke? Shit, he's got an olympic gold medal and is a capable submission fighter off of his back. BRING ON FEDOR NOW! -
I have to admit I let out a bit of a chuckle when his crying resembled some sort of musical tune. Still, horrible thing to do to a kid and I wonder what kind of asshole would post it on the internet to embarrass him further.

Also, there's no stereotype of white people not drinking as much as everyone else. Stop trying to be a funny racist, because when you cease to be funny, you're just a racist, and that's bad. I am not an alcoholic. I know some people who start with a beer in the morning and start getting slowly tanked before they're all out sloshed by happy hour. How they go through the rest of the day is beyond me.

You're not a "regular" white person though. Aren't you Eurotrash with a dirty accent?

It's on Matt's site so it shouldn't be a problem. The HL that lasts about a minute and a half is probably the best Matt Hughes HL I've ever seen, even though it is short. -

The Great Elbow Debate
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Hughes-Newton didn't have an elbow "fluke" stoppage if I recall. One was a slam, the other was an elbow beatdown. -

I pressed F5 a bunch of times before anyone posted hoping that we could continue that trend, but I guess no one noticed that there were 400 views without a single post. -

Hey, this thread's about Matt Hughes, leave the Frank Trigg bashing out! -
Norm Macdonald talked about this when he was on and wanted to use the 50/50, and how he thought that there was some guy in the back who was like *does evil face and laugh* and than picks the two you chose. Regis assured him the answers were prepicked, and that his 50/50 would have nothing to do with what he thought the answer was. He chose 50/50...and the two answers that he thought it might be were both still there. It was pretty funny, the crowd went nuts over it and Norm was like "A-Ha!"
