UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

He wouldn't have the size and strength advantage, but his athleticism would still give him a huge advantage over most middleweights. He would be far quicker than what they're used to, and still pretty damn strong. There's not many guys with the wrestling pedigree and bjj black belt status that he has at 185 either.

How were you sitting beside him? You must have had pretty good seats, because I feel like his would have been comps.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

I don't know him well, only saw him at the gym once but I know he's working a lot on his striking because he wants to do MMA and is working with some of the guys that I train with. I saw him at the gym helping Rashad and Nate with some takedown work, and I thought what he was showing was pretty good so I asked him some questions about it also. One was a standard double, the other was a double off of a single leg once the guy takes his leg out. They were both pretty good takedowns, as he did it a little differently than I saw before, so I tried to get the details down as well as I could. I have already added them to my game. Awesome athlete, even better wrestler. He helped me out, so I guess nice guy too.

You're being very coy. It's okay, we promise to be very soft and nurturing.

That's totally not how I pictured you sounding. Ironically, you actually sound pretty gay yourself. I Hear a bit of a lisp.

    Oscar Nominations Thread

What's the deal with Weinstein and the Oscars? I know he's a big time producer, but what kind of influence does he have? I'm really disappointed Gran Torino didn't get anything.

    The TSM Weight Loss Contest

Some of the people seem like they need to gain weight, like Cyber Mark and At Home. Also how are guys at 270 fitting into size 38 jeans? I'm 170, relatively skinny and I wear a 34.

    UFC 97: Redemption

That's shaping up pretty solid, feel bad for Cantwell though. He's gonna get murked.

He was never really washed up though. He's just been a little injury prone and then was unfairly written off completely. His numbers with the Giants are better than Eli's, and he never had the talent around him that Eli has now. The guy might be the most underrated QB in my lifetime, not by fans but by the league, which has far worse consequences for a guy's career.

What do people here think of Taylor vs. Chavez? Do you think it was a legit call at the end? I saw it recently and watched the HBO Legendary Nights special shortly after, and I'm surprised at how many people justified it. I'm a fan of Chavez so I was glad to see him win, but I still think the guy wasn't out so much as he was just distracted by his corner jumping on the apron. That fight beat all the skill out of him though. I was amazed at watching some of his more recent fights, not even in the 00's, but in the nineties, and seeing how his skills had deteriorated. He's practically retarded now. It's a shame, he was pretty fucking slick and quick as hell in that fight.

I actually will enjoy that. What a pathetic little man. It's scary that he has kids actually (or is about to).

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

It's not a publicity stunt, it's BJ being fucking crazy, because that's how he is. His regimen is pretty legit, the body needs time to rest, if you're going hardcore for five days straight like he says I can understand wanting to take two days off. I saw nothing wrong with how they portrayed him though. He's a crazy, but at the same time laid back guy. That's how he came across.

I'm surprised Margarito/Mosley is such a hot draw. Isn't Mosley super washed up now?

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

Keep in mind also that BJ Penn is my favourite fighter hands down, when everything is taken into account. But this is one guy I can't cheer for him against, and it has nothing to do with fighting. He is from my gym, so I'm always gonna back Georges, but in general there's no fighter I'd rather see in the ring and in front of a mic than BJ Penn.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

If anybody knows me, I don't show bias. I've probably repped BJ more in this thread than Georges. I've also mentioned times in the past where I knew guys would lose fights, like with Goulet now and with Cote in the past. The thing is, I wait till after to say something because I don't wanna sound disrespectful or give away too much information beforehand about a fighter's camp. In this case, I'm not worried about that because I'm pretty confident Georges is going to win. He looks pretty fresh after five sparring rounds with monsters in higher weight classes like Rashad, and Nate. Most importantly, he's still as humble as ever, which I think is an underrated point. When I see a guy like BJ as the president in his camp who runs things, it goes opposite to the traditional martial arts and even boxing training regimens where you're not anyone special, you have to work just as hard as everyone else. I think you have to be treated like shit to a point because it helps keep your ego in check. Georges is given special attention for this fight, but he's never pampered like BJ was. He's put through hell and he can't complain or he'll get a shit storm from Firas. Of course he knows to shut the fuck up so it's fine. He never talks about himself and always thanks the five guys that take turns trying to kill him afterwards, especially Rashad who left the caribbean or some really warm vacation spot to walk around in shitty January Quebec weather to help Georges for this fight. He took Rashad down at times, who is a 205'er and a world class wrestler. I can't really spin that any other way, it's simply a fact. I hate inflated training partner stories as much as the next guy, but I thought you guys might like to know what's been going on. One of the most surprising things to me about Rashad was his size, he is smaller than Marquardt. The fact that he's a champ in LHW is crazy in modern MMA, considering the emphasis on physicality.

John Elway and Dan Marino did pretty decent too. I'm sure there's plenty actually, and I think that college success is a pretty good indicator, though not the be all and end all that some make it out to be.

    Affliction: Day of Reckoning

If Arlovski is timid, he gets crushed. If he's like the Arlovski that fought Rothwell (just smarter, he was pretty dumb there) he makes it competitive.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

I saw Nate the Great and Rashad spar with Georges today for UFC Primetime and let me just say that if BJ is even ten percent more tired in the fifth round than the first, he's going to lose. Seeing the way he sparred with light heavyweights was crazy. I can't imagine how much better his energy levels will be when he has someone smaller than him to throw around.

    UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson

AMAZING Considering how well K-1 fighters did on NYE, I would say MMA fighters are not really c-level anything in that respect.

    UFC 97: Redemption

Silva vs. Leites is the real main event of that show, which just goes to show you how lacking they are in challengers for him. A Hendo rematch might be decent though.

    I have manic depressive/bipolar disorder type 2.

Kind of related, kind of not; how many of you guys with the seemingly serious social anxieties and related mental disorders lost your virginity later in life or not at all? I feel that, especially in high school, a big reason why girls are attracted to guys is because of their confidence and social prowess, something that these disorders you guys have would severely impede upon.
