Played the violin since I was 5 (18 now), and I'm pretty damn good at it. I enjoy improv stuff more than classical though.

Oo, now that he says that, you might try... Open CMD: Type cd\ to get to a reg. C prompt. Type ipconfig /flushdns Following that, totally clear your browser cache. EDIT: Fixed a syntax error.

Do you run AOL or any variant of it?

Looks like it's back to normal, for people who've got their settings straightened out. I haven't really figured out what would cause the change, other than someone putting in that there needed to be a -19 minute time difference for some reason.

Actually, the board's set right. It's been set right. Dunno what the problem is, and I guess I'll look into it.

phpBB is a LOT more raw than Invision is, so that's out of the question. Plus, it's REALLY hard to convert databases. I did it on a smaller board, and lost somewhere in there area of 10,000 posts. I think that the license is something like $200 bucks a year, so it's not TOO bad, when you consider what he's paying monthly for the site. -Josh

Couple things... First, bandwidth. Increasing the bandwidth that this site has, would be beyond irrelevant. It's never, to my knowledge, experienced any number of bandwidth problems. For those who are apparently ignorant to what that means, is that when someone views the site, the server sends the user information. That's what you see here Second, the actual problem. The server, while having gobs and gobs of of storage space, doesn't have substantial enough memory to handle the amount of connections that this board makes. That's reflected through the fact that the SQL DB goes down, as a result. There are a few alternatives to this, and that would be to streamline the SQL DB (Which pruning would help with), lock down the amount of connections that can be made (eliminating the guests), or getting more/better memory for the server. Server load on this piece is high constantly, due to the amount of info that is being transferred between user/server. You can KIND of think of it like a p2p program in the sense that when you are uploading, you will notice (with conventional cable/dsl) that your internet connection as a whole, unless you've capped it or whatever, is slower than it normally is. The neat thing about Invision, is that it's got a built in function to prevent the server itself from crashing due to too much information being transferred at one time. You see this whenever you see the blank page with black text. It was a bad omen earlier when Tom informed me about the changes that were made, and the first thing I saw was an error though. Since then, everything's been a bit smoother, though unlike Rant, I still noticed some sluggishness during peak hours. Tom, what kind of software does the other board you admin use? That may be something to consider. Invision is by and large, open source. So, it's still buggy and it still has some issues, and I wonder if how it handles data from the SQL database is one of those issues. I've noticed with vBulletin that the same problems are not evident, so I think that might be something that's worth looking into. Anyway, this lecture is over. I'll be continuing my search for the Invision mod that lets me sort threads. -Josh

I'm fully aware of the amount of connections that guests bring to the board. But like Rant said, trying things that are less drastic is key, first. If they work, then we'll save that little trick for another day.

Freezing/loading slowly is solely a hardware thing, and there's only so much we can do about it, from where we sit. Limiting the amount of connections is what has to happen, pretty much, so we're going to figure out a way to go about doing that, that wouldn't cut off the usage of the board to the posters. I'm on it. I'm always on it. What this place REALLY needs is a server upgrade, but that can't happen without $$, and we don't have said $$, so we'll do what we can do. -Josh

Update: Got the logo and "Who's Reading" thing fixed. Working on the margins now. Update 2: I win. Me - 1 Invision Board - 0 Thank you, and have a nice night.

It's not the logo, it's when he put his announcement up in midboard. He screwed the center tag up (I think) but I've been combing it and I haven't come up with anything.

Dames did it. I haven't figured out how to fix it yet.

A strange thing is happening to my monitor.
IllustriousOne replied to Nighthawk's topic in Technology
What that's generally (not always) a fault of, is an electromagnetic field being created near/around the monitor itself. When I was in school, I had a little clip fan that I used right next to it, and that's what caused it then. And as has been mentioned... you could just need a new one. -
You can still do an IP search with a deleted members IP. The information is kept whether you delete the account or not. Thanks though.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes
IllustriousOne replied to a topic in Site Feedback
The only way that this can be fixed, is to upgrade the server the site is on, with more memory. The site uses too much resources at given times, and that's why you see errors like that. -

I've got a lot of other shit that I'm dealing with on the net at the moment. Plus, I'm not fully educated on creating Invisionboard skins in the way that I'd like to be. As soon as I can get to work on them and produce something that I'd be happy with, you all will have it. I promise. -Josh

What do YOU the users want to see? An idea I had was to try and recreate the theme from the old Smarks EZBoard. Not the yellow one, but the blue one. Let's hear what you want.
