Over the summer I hit 250 at 6'4" and decided that I wanted to drop some weight, so I cut out every bit of caffeine I could drink, and stuck to water.
When I wanted something to snack on, I went with baby carrots with no dip and water. I was probably drinking around 9 - 10 bottles of water a day with really only one full meal throughout the course of the day, and into the night. I lost probably 25lbs. that way, and have done decent in keeping it off.
I drink caffeine again though, which is probably bad, but that's how it is.
