I agree with your assessment that they should look for help on defense, maybe this move means that they'll look to address defense in free agency.

I have heard various rumors that Jack Johnson doesn't want to play for the Carolina Hurricanes. I also heard that he said he would re-enter the NHL draft before he would sign with the 'Canes. If these rumors are true, which I feel they are, I suppose the 'Canes should try and gain some type of compensation for a player of Johnson's caliber. The team has ALOT of confidence in Babchuk's ability to develop. They also recently signed Brett Carson, who has been impressive with his minor league club. I don't know if Jordan Staal is what we need. I suppose they want to have Rod Brind'Amour's replacement in place for whenever he retires, which likely will be in another year or two, but I think there are bigger needs on the team to be addressed.

I would make Kurt Angle the main heel of the show. Make him the anti-hardcore WRESTLER. Every time one of his opponents tries to bring a weapon into the match, Angle quickly dumps it out of the ring without ever using it. It would make him a heel among ECW fans that want to see hardcore wrestling, but it would also put over the fact that he is the best wrestler on the roster.

Is there any date where the most roster moves take place? Or is it a slow process throughout the offseason? I'm eager to see how the Hurricanes shape up for next season.

I think even the Staal family will tell you that Jared, the youngest brother, may be the best of the bunch.

I actually kind of hope that the Hurricanes target either Chara or Redden. Either one would provide a major upgrade on our defense. I don't know what to make of the trade rumor.
