  6. Well it was interesting for a quarter and a half. We have our two loss MNC and things might never be the same again.
  7. Alumni Kicker Challenge? How exciting.
  8. Sure is a lot of anticipation for tonight's game I see. Guess I didn't need to make a separate thread.
  9. Back in August when I was completely out of ideas for this blog I started simming a Tecmo Super Bowl season using an NES emulator I downloaded like five years ago and posted the results here. I got through the regular season but for the playoffs I'd decided I should sit and watch the computer play itself instead of just simming the games and I was Bored in a hurry. After two games I stopped and eventually forgot about the whole thing. But I'm currently out of ideas again so might as well finish thing, just in time for the real NFL Playoffs. So you don't have to go digging for the old entries (and why would you?) here's the playoff picture: Since I don't think I ever bothered to watch the computer play itself back in the day I don't remember if there is any sort of bug that causes every playoff game to be decided by exactly seven points but that is what happened in this round. Hopefully that won't continue. AFC Wild Card: San Diego Chargers vs. Miami Dolphins Scoring Summary SD: Butts 42 Run SD: Carney 23 FG MIA: Clayton 62 Pass from Marino MIA: Clayton 24 Pass from Marino MIA: Stoyanovich 21 FG Mark Clayton burned the Chargers’ secondary for 152 yards as after a sluggish first half the Dolphins dominate the second half to advance. Charges moved the ball inside the Dolphins’ 30 late in the 4th quarter but turned it over on downs. NFC Wild Card: Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles When I did this game back in August it looks like I forgot to take a screen shot of the boxscore. Eagles 28, Redskins 21 Scoring Summary WAS: Clark 59 Pass from Rypien PHI: Williams 52 Pass from Cunningham WAS: Clark 25 Pass from Rypien PHI: Williams 44 Pass from Cunningham WAS: Clark 14 Run PHI: Cunningham 4 Run PHI: Sherman 21 Run An amazing performance by QB Eagles aka Randall Cunningham leads the Eagles into the next round. Cunningham threw for 220 yards and ran for 127 more as the Redskins defense did not force the Eagles to punt the entire game. The Redskins offense moved through the Eagle defense like butter in the first half scoring all three possessions but could not get a first down in the second half. AFC Wild Card: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Oilers Scoring Summary HOU: Fuller 37 Fumble Return HOU: Jefferies 11 Pass from Moon PIT: Hoge 7 Run HOU: Duncan 19 Pass from Moon PIT: Williams 3 Run In the a battle of the #3 offense in the league and the #1 defense in the league, offense won out as the Oilers outlast the Steelers. Pittsburgh made it a game after digging a 14-0 hole and had the ball at the end of the game but in true Tecmo computer fashion they ran the ball and ran out the clock. NFC Wild Card: Los Angeles Rams vs. New York Giants LA: Warner 1 Run NY: Megget 2 Run LA: Lansford 29 FG NY: Bahr 55 FG LA: Gary 5 Run LA: Anderson 13 Pass from Everett NY: Ingram 36 Pass from Simms The defending Super Bowl Champs season comes to a disastrous end as after choking away a first round bye down the stretch they then proceed to be upset by the Rams in the Wild Card round. Willie Anderson went wild on the Giants secondary as the Rams were able to the move the ball without much resistance most of the game. Giants scored a meaningless touchdown as time expired to make the final score closer than it really was.
  10. Going into the final week of the regular season it seemed the majority of us were excited about the possibility of a fresh MNC match-up of West Virginia vs. Missouri that would a program defining game for both teams. Well it didn't quite workout that way and we ended up with two traditional powers who pretty much backed their way into it. That being said after the lackluster slate of BCS games to this point I'm convinced this will end up being an instant classic that Ohio State eeks out (just like the 2003 Fiesta Bowl) and then everyone can say "Hey the BCS works!" The game does have potential historical significance as if LSU wins they would become the first two loss MNC since 1960 (Minnesota) and the first ever two loss, post-bowl MNC. Personally I think that would be a good thing as I think one of the reasons some are squeamish about the idea of a true playoff system is that two or three loss teams would have a shot at winning it. 11. It would have been a futile effort anyways as dumping a bucket of Gatorade on Magino is like dumping a thimble of Gatorade on a normal man.

Believe it or not his primary position last year was center field although that was purely due to the huge number of injuries the A's had. He actually is a pretty good defensive corner outfielder (and very good by some metrics) and as an occasional fill in center he's fine but not someone you want to rely as your everyday center fielder.

Okay now this a shocker as I didn't hear any rumors about Swisher. Don't have time at the moment to look into the names but glancing at BTF it seems the consensus is this is a very good haul for Swisher but holy shit is this team going to be dreadful next year. Might as well tarp off everything except field level seats and bleachers for 2008 as it will be a ghost town.
  14. Everyone in West Virginia, hide your couches! This makes their loss against Pitt even more baffling.
  15. Actually it hadn't been brought up at all and I hadn't read anything of the sort until I just did a quick Google search to confirm what you claimed and you are right. Really stupid rule. On the other hand though even if the rule didn't exist odds are the Rose Bowl would have stuck with tradition.
  16. Hawaii simply isn't as good as Boise State was last year or Utah was in 2004 and they are running into a team that was playing probably better than anyone by the end of the year. The Rose Bowl really should have dumped the tradition nonsense this year and picked Georgia over Illinois.
  17. It's 42-10, time for the human interest stories! Unless you have Vince Young at quarterback you just can't fuck with USC in bowl games it seems.
  18. Poor Edwin. That was quite the choke job by UVA.
  19. Ouch, UVA fumbles inside their own 5 while protecting a seven point lead with three minutes left. Texas Tech ties it up on the next play.
  20. Yeesh the Gator Bowl is almost half empty. Graham Harrell has now thrown two intentional groundings in the endzone for safties.
  21. The refs completely screwed up that sequence. No way they got the first down and should have added about 6 to 8 seconds if it supposedly was a first down. And how would replay confirm it? Well none of it matters, interception salts it away for the Vols.
  22. Outback Bowl has been fun but the Cotton Bowl is showing why they need to have some sort of bowl selection committee. There's no reason a Top 10 team should be playing an unranked team in a bowl game.
  23. This is probably the most shocking result of the bowl season so far. ECU beating Boise State was a bigger upset but I don't think anyone would think Oregon would handle USF the way they have after they went into the tank without Dixon. Glad I missed the Armed Forces Bowl as I would have been pissed to watch Cal comeback from 21-0 down to win.
  24. Might as well post this today with the t.v. schedule for the week since there are no national games today. Majority of the country starts up conference play this week. TV Schedule for the Week of 12/31 - 1/6 TUESDAY Cincinnati at Louisville, 2:30 PM/11:30 AM, ESPN WEDNESDAY Rutgers at South Florida, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN2 Kent State at #1 North Carolina, 8:00/5:00 PM, ESPN Penn State at Northwestern, 9:00/6:00 PM, ESPN2 THURSDAY West Virginia at Notre Dame, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN2 Ohio State at Illinois, 8:00/5:00 PM, ESPN #17 Villanova at DePaul, 9:00/6:00 PM, ESPN2 #5 UCLA at #24 Stanford, 10:30/7:30 PM, FSN SATURDAY #3 Kansas at Boston College, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN Michigan at Purdue, 2:00 PM/11:00 AM, ESPN Oregon at #21 Arizona, 2:00 PM/11:00 AM, FSN Louisville at Kentucky, 4:00/1:00 PM, CBS Oregon State at Arizona State, 4:00/1:00 PM, FSN #5 UCLA at California, 6:00/3:00 PM, FSN Connecticut at Notre Dame, 9:00/6:00 PM, ESPN SUNDAY Cornell at #9 Duke, 5:30/2:30 PM, FSN #1 North Carolina at #19 Clemson, 7:30/4:30 PM, FSN
  25. We finally get to the meat of the bowl season with 12 games in the next two days. The best match-up on New Year's Eve is the TAFKA Peach Bowl but probably the most intriguing match-up is the potential train wreck that will the Music City Bowl with the 36 suspended FSU players. For New Year's obviously the game that will generate the most interest is the Sugar Bowl as Hawaii tries to do their best Boise State impression against Georgia. After that we get a couple more BCS bowls and the two very silly MAC bowls before the MNC Game which there will be a separate thread for.
