    Iron Maiden

Oh sure, just tug on the metal fans heartstrings to get them on your side. There's playing to the crowd and then there's pandering to them. When I went to see Nickelback, they did some of that, but from what I understand Chad knew Dimebag a little bit, so a ten minute tribute one of the most influential metal bands of the early 90s wasn;t quite so cheesy. I have just given up on the metal bands of today. Its all one-finger chords, detuned guitars and growling like a constipated grizzly bear. I think that Fear Factory might have started it, but at least they were innovative. They singer harmonizing with the keyboard line was decent, and they had a good metal guitarist. I saw them open up for Maiden back in '96 and it was interesting. I gave A7X a try, I really did. No dice. Shadows Fall had a thing or two going for them when I saw them at Ozzfest, but again, there was nothing that caved my skull in, like the first time I listened to Vulgar Display of Power or Master of Puppets. Its all to fucking formulaic to actually be any good. The closest thing that has done so is Disturbed of all bands, and I fucking HATED them at first. Actually, add Godsmack onto that list. As for the current state of metal, I blame Fred Motherfucking Durst. I wish I could go back to 1992 or so and just kill him in his sleep.

I had heard that too, so I am going to go to that and I am going to be in my fucking ELEMENT. I think its around the long-awaited (at least by me) Early Years Volume 2 DVD, which will contain the best concert footage I have ever seen in my life: Live After Death. If Steve Harris let someone else do the video editing instead of himself, they would do a lot better. I still am balking at buying Death on the Road because of the shitty editing done in Rock in Rio. *gets an idea and goes to Netflix* And on the concert itself, my turn comes on Tuesday. Up the fucking Irons! That's what I love about you, Corey... you can be such a metal snob, its ridiculous. But saying that, I agree with you. I know they want to reach out to a newere and younger audience, but there are at least five bands I could think of off the top of my head that would have been a better fit for an opening act. Like it or not, the majority of their fanbase here in the States are people in their 30s (like me) and 40s, who were there when Beast on the Road made Maiden practically a household name, with thanks to Judas Priest for giving them the chance.

That's out of pity for the poor service industry who have to make their living off of tips.

Magglio Ordonez and Jim Leyland will never have to buy another drink or meal in the state of Michigan ever again.

I picked up Star Trek Encounters on a whim the other day and I love it. The gameplay is easy to grasp but difficult to master. The missions are long and difficult in spots, but they are worth it. You get to use the starships from all five tv series, and also the Enterprise 1701-E. The only thing that would have made the game perfect would be more voiceovers than a rather bored William Shatner. All of this and the game is only $20. Pick it up, people.

I had heard about the setlist a few days ago, and I am a little disappointed by that. But it aint gonna stop me from going to the show, no fucking way in hell. I guess they are trying to branch out a younger section of the audience by bringing in BFMV. I expect the Palace to be at least half-emoty until the banner comes down. They could have had a better opener for them, but hell, they could have done worse.

ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Speaking as someone who has been a Yankee fan since Chris Chambliss shut the Royals the fuck up back in 1976, and as someone who recently adopted the Tigers as my Team B, I can say that I have somewhat mixed feelings about what is going on. I basically want the series to go 5 games, bottom of the 9th, and Jeter yanking one out that barely clears the fence and the outstreched glove of Granderson to win it. The Tigers have a legitimate shot, but they have to win like they did yesterday, every game. As for A-Rod, I just don;t think that New York was ever a good fit for him. The pressure is way, way too much for him. He wants to be a hero like his "friend" Derek Jeter, and he doesn;t want people to dog him for that ridiculous contract. Combine these things with the fact that I think he is rather weak mentally, and he's trying way too hard. I honestly don;t think he is going to stay a Yankee in 07 if he does what he has been doing. But from the Tigers perspective, Magglio Ordonez and Pudge haven;t been living up their potential so far either. If the Tiger are going to win, they have to produce at the plate. Period.

    WarGames

Exactly. Things had cooled down a bit between the eight men after the Wargames, though you still had every one of the faces chasing Ric Flair's title. I'll say this about old-school NWA. They may have had a shitload of titles, but almost all of them meant something. How many did they have at the maximum? World Heavyweight US Heavyweight World Tag Team US Tag Team World Six Man Light Heavyweight US Heritage I know they had one or two more, I just can;t remember what they were.

    Voltron DVD #1

The first 15 episodes of the Lion series of Voltron was released last week, and I got my copy from Amazon... I have yet to watch them, but I read the synopsis of the episodes, and it goes right up to where we see Lotor for the first time. More later. Nothing like spending at paltry $23 to recpature a piece of your childhood/teenage years.

87 was the best by far, though 91 ranks second. Considering all of Dusty's problems with ALL of the Horsemen, The Road Warriors' dominance of the tage team division, and Nikita's face turn because of Magnum TA's career ending accident. On the other side, The Horsemen were running roughshod in the NWA at the time, and none of them were winning very many matches clean. It was the right time, the right kind of match, and the right kind of participants in that match. Hell I have it on my Youtube list and I still watch it. I owned the video tape when it came out, too. JJ Dillion getting his shoulder wrecked after the Doomsday Device wasn't any more tasty than Brian Pillman almost getting broken in half by Sid. After 91, I lost my taste for the match, more because the heat was nowhere near as palpable as in 87 or even 91

    Iron Maiden

Geoff Tate could match Bruce note for note back in his heyday. I don;t know about now, because I passed on the opportunity to see the Operation Mindcrime II tour when it came to Detroit, and I haven't had all that much interest in Queensryche anyway after Empire. It seems to me that they tried too hard to get away from the commerical success Empire got them, and they faded into semi-obscurity because of it. That, and Operation Mindcrime II came out about ten years too late. Fans were clamoring for it after Empire, but they went another way. Chris DeGarmo leaving the band the first time hurt them, too. James LaBrie doesn't bother me so much, though I have to agree that he is the worst part of Dream Theater. But when you have fucking amazing musicians like John Petrucci, John Myung, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess, you would have to be godlike just to match them, and James isn't.

We Have Us An Iron Man

I cannot believe someone suggested Brad Pitt as Tony Stark. Does anyone here remember Ben fucking Affleck as Daredevil? Same kind of thing. Going for the name recognition rather than an actor that can pull you into the story. Brad Pitt has never impressed me as an actor. At all. Don;t get me wrong, when my co-worker told me about Robert Downey Jr., a big red question mark popped on over my head as well. Hes a great actor, but we will see.

He would snap Simon Cowell like dry kindling if Simon even looked at him wrong, much less have the balls to insult him or his singing. Glenn is not someone I would fuck with on a bet. Dio is a little different as a vocalist than Bruce. Neither one is better than the other. Vivian Campbell's guitar work is just as much of a signature for Dio as was Dio's voice. Comparing Bruce and Dio is like comparing say, Bruce and Geoff Tate or James from Dream Theater. Similar, but not the same. And they're all good.

    Iron Maiden

AMLOAD is probably the best out of the new era to date. I love BNW and DOD for different reasons, but it seemed to me on BNW that they tried to do a dual guitar sound with three guitars, and each other's space was not clearly defined yet. They got a little better with DOD, and AMOLAD is about two or three steps in the right directions. The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg is an excellent song. Perfect cadence, and the guitars are much more guttural. I wish to God that they would more fully explore the triple guitar attack, but I guess it might not be Maiden when they were done. For me, they should just show Janick the door and go back to their most successful lineup. As for beginning Maiden albums, I will always say Powerslave, but I am biased because it was that album that got me into metal at 16, and one of the tracks on that album is what got me to pick up a guitar at 19. But you cannot go wrong with everything from Killers up to Fear of the Dark. the first album is good, but compared to the production value even in their next album, Killers, it can be tough to listen to at times. And the synth line in (Chicken) Dance of Death is what puts the song over the top for me, though it sounds better on Rock in Rio. Dio is a metal legend, even though I only own three songs by him and that's it.
  17. I just had a pair of brutal, nail-biting matches on HCTP, both involving my Tommy Dreamer CAW. The first was a TLC Tag Title Match between Dreamer/Samoa Joe CAW vs. my Killian CAW and Taz CAW. It rivaled anything in ECW in its heyday... tables were being used frequently, chairs flying every which way, ladder being used more as a weapon than a way to win the match... Everyone was busted wide open by the time my Samoa Joe leaped halfway across the ring from the top of the ladder to grab the belt and retain the titles. The last one was Tommy trying to retain the Hardcore Title against, Hawk, Rhyno, Tajiri, Eddie, and Lance Storm in a time limit match. It didn't take long for Tommy to completely destroy Lance, and I basically played defensive throughout the 10 minute time limit, though I did use the chairs judiciously.. but playing one on five wore him down, and Tajiri actually powerbombed Dreamer through a table and went for the win with ten seconds left, but the ref got knocked out by Hawk attacking Rhyno with a chair at the same moment, and the clock ticked down to zero and I retained. Yet another reason why HCTP lords it over SvR and Svr 06, in my opinion. Had any great matches as of late? Then share them.

    PlayStation 3

My thoughts exactly. There is no overwhleming reason to grab a PS3 the microsecond they hit the shelf, should be extremely fortunate enough to be able to get one on release day. BTW Leena, what movie is your sig from? Its fairly hot.
  19. I can;t see any other outcome than Hughes beating the hell out of Penn and getting his win back. Loiseau throwing bows is always a good thing for me,
  20. Not looking worked for me. I gave him my advice and well, if he is too insecure to actually live life, that's entirely on him. I might be 37 and going downhill with increasing speed, but ye gods, some people just need to get over themselves. On both ends of the spectrum.

Somwtimes they don;t have to be, unless its an open skill/class system like FFX. I want a return to the old Gold Box games, but much more updated. Not like what is on the market now, though I like NWN... old-school but brought up to speed. Too many bells and whistles make a lot of unnecessary clutter.

    PS2 Games.

Yeah, no shit.... I had to stop on Medium becase I was getting so frustrated. By the way, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2 though if you had to make a choice, go with 2 for the item creation.. Even though it doesn't look that great, Gauntlet Dark Legacy.

    WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007

I have said it before. If you took some of the good things that SvR and SvR 2006 had (such as realistic chair, table, steps, and cage damage), meshed them with the HCTP game, you would have a damned good wrestling game. Put it down all you want, people. Smackdown was the best series out of them all. DoR had some decent things going for it, but not even close. So hate on, but its the truth.
