I can't believe there was no penalty on that. There shouldn't have been one, so it was a great no-call, but that gets called more often than not. This is great action.

Isn't the big rock to the left a large stair structure? I haven't played the game in a LONG time, but that's what I remember it as. You can climb up it easily, but you can't go back the other way without the morphing ball (which is conveniently placed just beyond the big rocks).

I just tuned in and my jaw dropped in shock. 4 goals on 14 shots...not a good start for Gerber at all. He was their biggest question mark going in anyway, and this isn't going to help matters.

Yeah, I don't know why you'd waste an out to score FEWER runs. Looking at the variance on those numbers would be interesting. I'd suspect your odds of scoring at least one run would be higher with 2nd and 3rd/1 out, which would make it preferable to 1st and 2nd/0 out in tie games late, but I have no idea why anyone would do it in the third inning. Have some confidence in your hitters, man.

I cannot believe the Flames only scored two goals and needed overtime to beat a team that had its backup goaltender make an emergency start. If they had just about anyone but Kiprusoff in net, they would've gotten destroyed. Can't wait for Rangers/Devils.

I'd love to see some stats on average number of runs scored with first and second/no outs as opposed to second and third/1 out.

That was the point. Not that Quinn did a great coaching job in the regular season, but that the difference between playing first-place Detroit and fourth-place Dallas wasn't that great, so Detroit getting beat by San Jose didn't help as much as it would appear.

Correct, although there were only three points between first and fourth in the West that year. They beat #2 Calgary (in an amazing series), #4 Dallas and #3 Toronto en route to the finals. They were only 1 game above .500 in the regular season, though.

I'm looking forward to that one as well. It's going to be one of TSN's featured series.
