    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Yeah, I didn't even think it was realistic for them to go undefeated the rest of the way, and Notre Dame's a pretty good team. The real test is how they do against Syracuse, Villanova, and in the Big East tourney. If they go through the rest of that stretch with only one more loss, then they're legit and they should at least be able to get to the Elite 8. If they pick up something like three or four losses the rest of the way though, they're probably the lucky non-threat that people have been trying to make them out to be.

The OAO State of the Union address thread

Well shit. That gay marriage thing kind of took over the thread didn't it. I just wanted to come in here and celebrate that Bush is finally cutting spending. It would be better if he increased it about tenfold, but at least it's a start. I love how people think that certain programs should never be cut, no matter whether they have enough money to function properly or not. For instance, can you really tell me that $2 billion isn't enough to help the small portion of the population that's over 65, living alone, can't pay their bills, and lives in a northern state pay their heating bills for three months out of the year? He didn't eliminate the program. He just said that they're "only" getting $2 billion. Shit, they could probably handle the whole thing for $1 billion just as easily. The one spending cut I do disagree with is the one eliminating cells for aliens who commt crimes. Apparently, we're in such "imminent danger" from these terrorist cells that we'll let anyone cross the border now, and do whatever the hell they want once they get there. The least Bush could do is keep his stoty straight there. This whole "open up the border" think that Bush seems to be pushing so hard seems ridiculous to me.

    Do you smoke?

I just want to clarify that Menthols don't taste like Christmas, they taste like the most disgusting mouthwash/toothpaste imaginable. How anyone actually likes them is beyond me. I really don't smoke much anyway, just bum a couple when I'm drunk, so as a non-smoker, I want to say that Menthols are not "my" type of cigarette.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Almost every top team has letdowns when they play teams that aren't on their level. North Carolina lost to Santa Clara and Wake Forest lost to Florida St., but no one's trying to say that they're not legit. Boston College has blown out plenty of teams. The thing is that even though I only have them ranked fourth, I really don't believe that anyone in the country outside of Illlinois would be undefeated right now playing their schedule. All the ACC teams have at least one bad loss, and Kansas got blown out by a team that BC beat. If you go further down the list, a team like OK State or Louisville just isn't good enough to win on the road at Connecticut. I can still see there being a good chance that BC only makes it to the Elite 8, and I'd probably be a little surprised if they made it all the way to the NCAAs undefeated, but the way they get derided as not being worthy of a Top 5 or Top 10 ranking is completely unfair.
  6. Yeah, the idea of waiting until WM to see if HHH faces Batista doesn't work on about ten different levels. What they need to do is have Batista considering the move to Smackdown until he finds out that HHH was behind the video all along on his own. Then, after he shows the footage, he gets incredibly angry for a second, and decisively powerbombs HHH into the ground three times and walks off. Then, Cena can go ahead with his shot at JBL, and you've got HHH and Batista all ready to go.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

They have plenty of depth in their receiving corps. In case you didn't notice, there's this guy named Freddie Mitchell who hardly even plays when TO's healthy.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

See, this is exactly what I was talking about. Saint Joseph's was and is a mid-major school. They play in the Atlantic 10. Occasionally, someone like Xavier or Dayton will be fairly good, but they are not an upper-level conference. Meanwhile, Boston College has been playing in the Big East which is probably the fourth best conference in the country. They haven't faced Syracuse yet, but Connecticut and Villanova should both be top 20 teams right now. If anyone should be getting the paper tiger treatment, it's Louisville. The only top 30 team they've beaten is Cincinnatti, and Cincy hasn't beaten anyone either. I'd take Boston College over Louisville on a neutral court any day.

Coach K gets restraining order against Dick Vitale

Wow, I think that's the funniest satirical news article I've ever read. This paragraph in particular made me laugh for about 30 seconds: Just the mental image of Dick Vitale shaking his head like a little kid and refusing to let the do anything until Coach K came is classic.

    Pizza Guy

When I delivered pizza, we'd just keep track of who didn't tip and then charge them a delivery charge next time for not tipping us. Sometimes, if we really felt like assholes we'd hand them a receipt with "$1 delivery charge- NO TIP" on it in big letters.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

I can see the argument that the Patriots pressured him and got in his head, but the idea that he was making good throws all night and the Patriots just made good plays on them is a myth. Over and over again, he'd make throws that were nowhere near his receivers that would have fallen incomplete if there wasn't a defender on the field. And yes, the Pats did make plays to intercept three passes, but they also dropped about three or four more interceptions, not to mention the one that got called back. If McNabb had played like he did yesterday in the NFC Championship, the Falcons would have made the Super Bowl.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

Dorsey Levens had all of one carry, so I wouldn't really blame him. Really, if you ask me what happened is that the Eagles decided not to run the ball very much because their receivers were so open all night. If Donovan had just hit them without turning the ball over, the Eagles could have won easily.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

The thing about McNabb last night is that he didn't just make bad throws on the three passes that were intercepted. There were a ton of throws besides those where I thought "What the hell is he doing". Lots of times last night he had plenty of time in the pocket, looked around and made either a terrible throw into double coverage, overthrew or underthrew the receiver by ten yards or threw it right at a defender. Brady made maybe two or three bad, dangerous throws last night. McNabb made about 12 or 15.

NBA Live 2005 needs technicals and flagrants.

The flagrants I can see, but if one of my players got pissed off and got a technical while I was playing, I'd get pissed off and want to break the screen. I don't like that idea at all.

Well, this brought me a chuckle anyway. If people are going to be that stupid when they commit suicide, they can't expect people not to laugh at them.

    Title for Bond 21 announced

My fingers are crossed for Chris Rock or DMX. And yes, I'm serious. Time to bring to an end this "James Bond is white" stereotype. That's stupid. The point is that the character is a British detective, and to make it accurate, they only use British actors. If you've got a black British actor to play the role and they play it straight, then fine. But if Chris Rock or DMX played James Bond, I would never watch the movie, ever.

    Best Commercials SB 39

I liked the Bud Light ads, and they must have been pretty effective because as soon as I saw them, I started drinking heavily. I have to say that I don't really remember any ads from the second half of the game though. In fact, it took me about ten minutes this morning to remember the final score.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

It's true that Andy Reid made some inexcusably bad coaching moves, but the Eagles weren't going to win anyway by the time he made them. That game was lost by Donovan McNabb. I don't care how many yards he threw for. He threw at least ten or twelve passes that were SO bad that I couldn't believe that he made them. He had an absolutely awful game, and the fact that the Eagles even had a chance means their defense and supporting cast is loads better than I thought they were. If Tom Brady was quarterbacking the Eagles and Donovan McNabb was quarterbacking the Patriots last night, the Eagles would have won something like 34-14.

    SuperBowl XXXIX Eagles vs. Pats

That's pretty close to what I did too (most of the same teams and everything), although I picked the teams when they looked like they at least had some hope of being on the rise. I became a Mavs fan when they had Jason Kidd, Jamal Mashburn, and Jim Jackson, and then I stuck it out through all the hard times after they left. I picked the Orioles back in '93 when they were just hanging out in the middle of the division, and then I was lucky enough to get playoffs two years in a row, but I haven't had jack shit since '96 and I'm still with the team. In hockey, I did kind of latch onto the Senators when they were beating the Devils in the first round of the playoffs, although it was really a combination of them being an 8 seed, and being my best friend's favorite team. It worked out good though when we took a trip up to Calgary to watch them play the Flames. Finally, in football I used to be a pretty strong Broncos fan, and I remember it was about the best thing ever when they beat the Packers to win the Super Bowl. I again took a trip out to Seattle to watch them play the following year, but I ended up getting kind of bored with them not wanting to cheer for the favorite all year, and fairly early in the season, I decided to make the Jets my favorite team, because I figured Bill Parcells would make them awesome in no time. That kind of backfired, because when they played the Broncos in the AFC championship game that year, I was torn throughout, and I really couldn't enjoy the game at all. By now I'm Jets through and through though. Oh, and in college, I just latched onto Georgia Tech because Stephon Marbury was the shit. Of course, I'm a WSU fan too because I go there, but if the Jackets came to town, I'd have a pretty hard time not cheering for them.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

People act like Boston College is a mid-major or something. They are playing in the Big East, and they keep winning games against teams that are pretty good. They beat the Villanova team that knocked Kansas's socks off by 20+, and they beat UCLA, UConn, and WV on the road fairly handily. Just because they don't blow out all the shitty teams on their schedule, people think they're not for real. I'm not saying they'll get any further than maybe the Elite 8 in the tourney, but the idea that they'd get blown out by Louisville or Michigan State (both top ten teams) is absurd.

    Dynasty?

I don't really get where this idea comes from that the Patriots are less popular than other dynasties. Talking to people while I was watching the Super Bowl yesterday, I'd say that more than half of them wanted the Patriots to win. I remember hating the Bulls with a passion, and I think everyone hated the Yankees when they were winning multiple World Series. However, I've kinda liked the Patriots throughout, and I think most people are right there with me.

Fuck Carolina. When BJ Elder gets healthy, they'll be the fourth best team in the ACC.
