Eckstein ripped the ball and Monroe did everything he could to get to it. He had so little of his glove on it, that there was no way for him to actually catch it. Anyway, great win for the Cardinals tonight.

I wish there more less I-AA games on TV. Every time a major national game is pre-empted for Montana State vs. UC Davis, I want to gouge my eyes out.

At least 3.0 "her father is the district attorney". It was just so random and pointless. I instantly stopped thinking about the characters as soon as the line was uttered, and started thinking "Oh my god, this show's going downhill fast. I can't believe someone thought this was a good idea." I was actually angry at the writers for insulting my intelligence enough to think that I'd care about a supporting character's brother who had never been mentioned before and likely never would be again.

It's because of their schedule. It's obvious to anyone that follows college football closely that they won't lose. The Wolverines opened as a 36.5 point favorite over Northwestern. The biggest favorite to ever lose a college football game was Western Michigan in 2000 and they were only a 34.5 point favorite. Ball State's worse than Northwestern. They're 2-6, play in the MAC, and they lost to a I-AA team at home. The best team that UM plays before OSU is Indiana who lost 44-3 last week and recently broke a 10-game conference losing streak. Saying that Michigan would "probably" lose one of those three games was met with disdain because it was a ridiculous statement, not because of any innate board-wide bias toward Michigan. As far as Texas goes, the only team they played that's as good as Notre Dame was OSU who they lost to by seventeen points at home.

I didn't like this episode very well. I thought it was just a little more boring than last week. The subplot with the guy's parents visiting and the WWII vet were both boring and cliche. I don't care about characters who won't be coming back, and I don't care about the "daddy issues" for the 15th most important person the show either. The stuff that stuck to the real cast was interesting, but it seemed like there was a ton of boring filler.

The supporting characters get a lot better. The sister gets toned way down after the first episode, until she's halfway likeable, and the girlfriend gets enough focus that she's probably the second-leading character in the show behind Dexter.

Fuckin' A! Do I really have to wait a whole week for the finale? This show is soooo good right now.

The ACC's where it's at this week. Wake, Clemson, and Maryland are all woefully undervalued. Putting every dollar you can scrape together on the Wisconsin moneyline is also a sound strategy. As far as games of interest, I'm obviously all over the GT/Miami game. Even though the Clemson game was for the pride of being the best team in the conference, this week's way more important in terms of trying to qualify for the ACC title game. Whoever wins this game will take the Coastal Division barring a total collapse. For national games of interest, it is a pretty bad week though. Ohio State, Michigan, and USC are all taking on cupcakes this week although Oregon State will probably manage to keep it close for three quarters. At least this is probably the end of the dull weeks. Next week, we've got West Virginia/Louisville and I think USC/Cal's the week after. Even Michigan/Ohio State's not too far out now.

Tennessee's a Top Ten team though who beat Cal by double digits. If Florida doesn't beat them, they're probably ranked #2 in the country right now. I don't see how you give Florida no credit for beating them on the road. I didn't even have Va. Tech ranked when BC beat them, and Florida State was just barely ranked at #24. Those wins are much easier to ignore. Also, neither FSU or VT has beaten anyone in the Top 40 of the Sagarin ratings this year. Back on Northwestern, here are there results for the weeks leading up the MSU game. 09/22 at Nevada L 31-21 09/30 at Penn State L 33-7 10/07 at Wisconsin L 41-9 10/14 Purdue L 31-10 Also, remember that Michigan beat Penn State by 7, Wisconsin by 14, and Michigan State by 18. It would be (no overstatement here), the biggest upset in college football history if Northwestern were to beat Michigan.

Another great episode tonight. The combination of action and character development is the best I've seen since the first season of Lost. I really can't understand why more people aren't watching this show.
-
Come on. Have you even looked at their schedule? Before the OSU game, they play Northwestern, Ball State, and Indiana. It is as close to impossible as you get in sports that they'll lose one of those games.
-
I would bet my right testicle that Michigan doesn't lose two games down the stretch. (Unless you're including their BCS game in which case you could say that about anyone.)

I'm just disappointed there's no real cocaine in it. You can't really compare the rush from a bunch of caffeine to doing some fresh lines of coke.

Note to self: Even though it sounds like a terrific idea on paper, cottage cheese really adds nothing to a ham and turkey sandwich. Stick to mayo and mustard.

Florida all the way down at #12? With road wins over Tennessee and Alabama and the big win at home over LSU? Sounds a little harsh to me. Boston College's loss for instance (to NC State) was much worse than Florida's, and their only good win came in 2OT at home on a missed extra point. Don't get me wrong, I'm high on BC, but I don't think you can put them ahead of the thoroughly tested SEC teams. As far as FOX goes, I figure they couldn't be any worse than ABC last year. Keith Jackson damn near ruined the title game by nodding off during all the big plays. Also, I love FOX's baseball coverage, even if it's just for the theme song they play between innings. That's the most catchy theme that just screams 'big event' since the NBA on NBC theme back in the day.

McFadden's been healthy since Week 2. He had 19 carries for 71 yards against Vandy and 25 carries for 112 yards against Alabama. And the only thing that's "improved" about Mitch Mustain is that they've cut his number of pass attempts way down, basically running the ball 75% of the time. This cuts down on his big mistakes and allows their defense to win ball games. The last three weeks, he's completing his passes at a 50% rate and averaging less than 100 YPG passing. I'm not saying Arkansas's not improved, they are. But it's not a radical improvement. I'd actually say that Rutgers has improved more from the beginning of the season to now than Arkansas has.

09/02 #6 USC L 50-14 09/09 Utah St W 20-0 09/16 at Vanderbilt W 21-19 09/23 Alabama W 24-23 10/07 at #2 Auburn W 27-10 10/14 SE Mo St W 63-7 10/21 Ole Miss W 38-3 Do you really think this looks like the resume of a Top 12 team? A 36 point loss to USC? What if Alabama and Vanderbilt could kick and we had: 09/16 at Vanderbilt L 22-21 09/23 Alabama L 20-17 Arkansas had one really good game against Auburn. That's it. I think it was mostly a fluke due to lack of preparedness, and if Auburn played them tomorrow, the Tigers would probably win by double digits. If Arkansas had even two wins over Top 100 teams that didn't rely on a last-second missed FG, I might have them at #15, but for now, they are what they are. And if Rutgers played Arkansas at a neutral site tomorrow, yes I think Rutgers would win. Probably something like 20-17, but I do legitimately think they're the better team. Boise's a little harder to judge as they haven't played anyone at all recently and have been getting very lackadaisical, but I think their close wins were no worse than Arkansas's. And they also have some very good performances when playing at their peak (See the Oregon State and Utah games.) I'll tell you one thing. If they played USC, they wouldn't lose by any 36 points. (Summary: I can see an argument that Arkansas's better than Boise; I have them in a virtual dead heat at the moment. You could even say that Boise has a better overall resume, but Arkansas's playing a little better at the moment. I do believe that Rutgers is legitimately better than Arkansas though and would defeat them if they played next Saturday.)

I've been really impressed with Rutgers the last two games. With a 34-0 shutout over Navy and then a dominating 20-10 win at Pittsburgh, they looked nothing like the team from the first few weeks of the season. I honestly think we might end up with a three-way split in the Big East with Louisville, WVU, and Rutgers finishing the year with one loss a piece. Arkansas's going to need more than one good win before I move them above the undefeateds or LSU. Remember, that game where Alabama's placekicking collapsed down the stretch was at Arkansas. Not that I believe it's true, but you could make a really good argument that Alabama's a better team than Arkansas right now. The good thing about my rankings is that they're not static. I'll change them to adjust to changing information as the teams play. A win at South Carolina would probably be enough to move Arkansas ahead of Boise State and a win over Tennessee would lift them well into the Top Ten, maybe in the #7 or #8 range. At this point though, I think the Hogs will finish with at least one more conference loss and likely with two.

Nice to see something went right this week, (a pretty good win in the contest). I had far and away my worst weekend gambling this season the same week that Georgia Tech had a disgusting, devastating, disappointing loss to Clemson.
-
God damn it, that was ugly. It all started with Reggie Ball (easily the worst performance I've seen from him all year; possibly the worst of his career), but the whole team just gave up in the 4th quarter there. Absolutely embarrassing effort from the Yellow Jackets. If they play anywhere near that bad against Miami next week, any hopes of an ACC title will go up in smoke.

St. Louis, with a moderate sized national fanbase and storied franchise is going to draw more along with Detroit (which has a fairly likable squad and has that old coach charm) then a game between Chicago's bastard stepchild that the city of Chicago never cared enough about aside from a couple weeks last october and Houston, a franchise with zero national appeal and unlikable players. Last year's game had one name star and that player appeared once (Clemens). This edition gets it's biggest star attraction for the entire duration and has more attractive set of teams. Granted this game isn't going to get Boston/St. Louis numbers but let's not act like it's going to drop below last year's set. You'd think by now people will stop going "sweep" when Detroit beat NY and St. Louis beat NY despite everyone thinking it would be one(from the losing team, no less). St. Louis had a crummy regular season but despite a seemingly weak pitching staff, they manage to make things work. I do think Detroit has the advantage but I won't discredit that St. Louis has the ability to steal one, if not two games from the Tigers. Game 1 will be very difficult though, given that Anthony Reyes is pitching against Verlander in Detroit. If they'd just pitched Weaver in Game 1, Carpenter in Game 2, and Suppan in Game 3, it would have given them a much better shot at winning the series. Even leaving Reyes as the Game 1 starter and pitching Carpenter on three days' rest in Game 2 to let Suppan pitch twice would have helped. FYP.

So WP is still roaming the forum...

Is he trying to get caught or something? How does he come back and immediately start posting about Benoit/Undertaker and strip clubs? -
I can't believe that you didn't even fuck his shit up. You had all his passwords, and you talked to him to "make sure" that he wasn't really a girl? What's your email? I've got to talk to you about holding some money for me that I've got to move out of Nigeria. I might need you to send me back some expenses, but it shouldn't be a very difficult process.

Happy to see you're still alive. Not so happy to see you dropped out of the college football contest. Now my victory's going to feel just a little bit hollow when Georgia Tech blows away the rest of the competition and I don't know if I was truly the best or not. You should try to get Bored to allow you to refuse replacement picks and just pick the Saturday games yourself. Change the story from "work vacation" to "abducted by illegal aliens".
