POTD. Don't know why, it just really struck me funny. As for WP, I think it was probably about the right time for it. He was getting so obsessed with the attention that he was becoming a worse and worse poster, and his "sense of humor" (not exactly his strong suit) was really starting to become a focus. I suppose I should have just ignored the "friend! friend! friend!" thread, but I read the whole thing and it kind of annoyed me. Sure he wasn't openly flaming people, but he was putting out a lot of boring posts and becoming a distraction. The duplicate account thing was a worthy finish too. Pretty much summed him up.

The real game of the week is LSU/Auburn as far as I'm concerned. Since they already did a Notre Dame game, that's a pretty obvious choice as far as I'm concerned. USC/Nebraska is at least close enough to be reasonable however. Also, they haven't sent Gameday to a Pac-Ten school in recent memory, so that's another point in favor of doing it there. Finally, they really don't have any choice on this the way they've set things up. Herbstreit's on the 'A' squad on analysts now (which he should be, he's the best analyst under the ESPN/ABC umbrella), so they're not going to send him out to Knoxville or Auburn for some morning show when they need him in LA to call the big night game.

The only pick I regret is Tennessee. No way would I have made it if I knew they had 18 billion defensive starters injured. I'd give Florida about a 75% chance of winning now.

I wouldn't feel bad if they stripped Reggie Bush of the Heisman as long as they award it to Vince Young. He deserved it over Bush anyway.

I watched it. It seemed like she was bullshitting her way through 99% of it, but I still think the whole thing's stupid. Who cares if she had sex with a 14 year old? She was doing the kid a favor. The only thing that might have been "damaging" to him was all the shit that happened afterwards where he's supposed to testify against this nice lady and try to get her sent to jail for what she did. It is kinda shitty that she cheated on her husband with an 8th grader though. I mean you know that's gotta feel harsh. You're wife hardly ever has sex with you, but then she turns into a raving nympho for some middle school kid.

President Wayne Palmer? I'm really not feeling that for some reason. I guess the American public could be stupid enough to vote someone in just because his brother died, but I really can't see Wayne Palmer in that serious of a position. His character's just not strong enough for it. Don't get me wrong, I always liked the character, but it's just too dramatic of a shift and it screams of "Well, we're still paying this actor; let's find some convenient way to keep his character in the story."

I would love to know how someone can write this article and come to the conclusion that Howard should be the MVP. I mean reading it, I thought, wow, that's a really persuasive case for Pujols, I'd think almost anyone who read this would be swayed, and then at the end, he comes out and says he thinks Howard should be the MVP. WTF!

Maybe he took broadcasting lessons from Keith Jackson? I don't think I've ever seen a worse call in my life than what he did in the Rose Bowl last year.

I actually agree on the 9/11 stuff. People are emotional and easily manipulated. The way the media was reacting now, you'd think the bombings just happened. For three days, it covered the entire front page of the newspaper. I just don't see the big deal about an anniversary I guess. It's nothing but a day on a calendar.

I don't think USC will run Nebraska off the field or anything, but they should still beat them pretty handily. They had an extra week to prepare and it's their home opener, so you know they'll come out motivated. Plus, I don't think Nebraska can match them at the skill positions. They just don't have the talent yet. If I were going to make a prediction, it would be: USC 35 Nebraska 17

Aw, I wish the cheap shot was true. It was funny. Anyway, the way I see it, Bush and Peterson were/are both great college players. But Vince Young was on another level. It's weird because his sophomore and junior years, he made a lot of mistakes and I didn't see it coming at all. But his senior year, he was the best player I've ever seen play college football. 30 years from now, people are still going to be talking about how he took over that Rose Bowl against USC.

God damn it. Yeah, I could have used some spoiler tags on this one. I kinda got the sense that Cena was winning, but there was enough doubt that I probably would have gone to the sports bar and watched Unforgiven if I hadn't seen this. Now, it probably won't be worth it to me.

Whew, that was close. When I was adding up points during the Washington game last night, I actually thought I lost by one, but apparently I won by 3. No thanks to that lazy prick Jerry Porter. It's pretty bad when you have to send a statement to the press that you weren't cheering against your own team.

Read up maybe two posts and you'll see that one of their starting corners is out for the game (and actually the season) with a fractured leg. They have a freshman starting in his place, and that's why I think they're weak. Oh, and while we're counting up all the games from that block last year, I didn't end up finishing any of those games last year, because I left to go to another game which was actually really good in UCLA/WSU. WSU led 38-21 going into the fourth quarter before ultimately blowing the game and losing 44-41 in OT.

I run a base 4-3. I figure since I spend half the game in nickel and dime anyway, I'm still going to have to recruit at DT whereas linebackers are less crucial. Also, even though it's my "base defense", I actually run very little 4-3 as if I really need a stop against the run, I go with a 4-4 or the 46 bear.

Washington's a bad team and their weakest point is their secondary. They honestly have one of the very worst secondaries in the country. I wouldn't give Thompson too much credit there. Against UAB, Thompson was 14-24 for 227 with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. That's not terrible, but it's still not a very good line. Thompson's probably as good as Bomar was last year, but I don't think he's as good as Bomar would have been this year with another year's experience under his belt. I wasn't really saying Oregon was going to hold OU under 20 or anything either, but given the assumption that Oregon will probably score 30+ points, I don't think that the Sooners will be able to capitalize on the weakness in the secondary enough to win.

FRIDAY Kansas at Toledo SATURDAY Syracuse at Illinois Michigan State at Pittsburgh Michigan at Notre Dame Miami at Louisville Oklahoma at Oregon LSU at Auburn Texas Tech at TCU Mississippi at Kentucky Memphis at East Carolina Clemson at Florida State Nebraska at USC Florida at Tennessee Colorado State at Nevada Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the Oklahoma/Oregon game? 55 Tiebreak #2: How many receiving yards will USC's Dwayne Jarrett have against Nebraska? 116

Well, Dama the good news for OU is that the Ducks just lost one of their starting corners and will be starting two freshmen at CB on Saturday. The bad news is that the Sooners passing game's bad enough that I don't know if they'll be able to capitalize. The injury gives Oklahoma a better chance, but I'd still have to lean towards Oregon on this one.

Hey, they also shut out another I-AA school! We'll not wind up like those guys to the west Believe it or not, that other team they shut out actually plays I-A football. It's Florida Atlantic and they're the dregs of the Sun Belt. Not that there aren't about 50 I-AA teams better than them, but they do at least carry I-A status.

Well, I'm actually down 90-81 in the TSM B league (my only fantasy league), but I've got three players going Monday night, so unless they all bomb, it should be a victory. Tony Gonzalez came up huge for me today with 24 points.

Georgia Tech's a good team. I had them at 19 in the preseason and a 4 point loss to a Notre Dame team that looked really good against Penn State didn't change my mind. Oklahoma's looked really bad the first two weeks. They struggled with UAB (a pretty middle-of-the-road mid-major), and then struggled with Washington for the better part of three quarters. Washington's probably a 2-9 football team this year. I just don't think they're that good with Paul Thompson at QB, and I certainly don't think they're better than Texas Tech or Oregon. For the record, I'm not the only one that feels this way as CFN has them at #27. And LSU's awesome. They were my preseason #1, and they completely destroyed Arizona last week (who's improved and could be looking at a bowl this year). It's close between them and USC, but I honestly believe the Tigers are better right now. I really think they can win at Auburn. Oh yeah, Texas doesn't "suck horrible", they're #13 in the country, which is about where I had them before the season started. If they'd kept it close, it would be one thing, but a 17 point loss at home just doesn't scream "national championship contender".

For your entertainment/derision, I made a Top 25 this week. Since it's early enough in the year that it doesn't mean much, I figured it certainly didn't deserve it's own thread, but I still wanted to post it. 1. Ohio State 2-0 2. LSU 2-0 3. USC 1-0 4. Notre Dame 2-0 5. West Virginia 2-0 6. Florida 2-0 7. Auburn 2-0 8. Michigan 2-0 9. Tennessee 2-0 10. Florida State 2-0 11. Louisville 2-0 12. Boise State 2-0 13. Texas 1-1 14. Oregon 2-0 15. Texas Tech 2-0 16. Georgia 2-0 17. Miami 1-1 18. Virginia Tech 2-0 19. Georgia Tech 1-1 20. Oklahoma 2-0 21. Nebraska 2-0 22. Arizona State 2-0 23. California 1-1 24. Clemson 1-1 25. Well, that was a much-needed bounceback this week. After being tied for last in correct picks last week, I finished tied for 2nd this week and won my matchup handily. Funny how when I do bad in this contest, I do really well sports betting and then when I win here, I end up losing a bunch on my bets.

He's been doing it for a long time if you live on the West Coast. He was with Keith Jackson doing the Pac-Ten game of the week on ABC every week for the last couple years.

Texas and Texas Tech will both beat Oklahoma. I don't think they need to worry about the conference championship game.
