*resists urge to make pisspoor "rodeo clown" joke*
-
This whole situation has made me realise that HBK may well be the worst Christian ever. Hey Shawn, remember when you signed Benoit's contract? THOU SHALT NOT STEAL! The big man upstairs is after you now. Be afraid Shawn, be afraid.

All have played in the first team *this year*! (apart from Biggins) We just haven't got anyone else. BIG GAZ TAYLOR SCORED FOR WALES!!! Brilliant. He deserves it. Bless him, he's the player my Forest supporting friend always slams as a useless donkey, and I'm left defending him, simply because I don't believe that Mark Hughes would pick a donkey for the Wales squad. Wasn't a stunning goal or anything, but it was great to see him get on the scoresheet.

I'd like to believe that if Ted DiBiase could see us know, having a discussion about the penises of wrestlers, prompted by a reference to his own uncontrollable boner, he'd take a quick prayer for all of our souls.

Hey, I never said they were as good as DEP, just a more listenable version. I'd say that those lovable scamps in Busted were a more listenable version of Green Day, but I'd sooner listen to Green Day. Actually, more listenable isn't the phrase....ah yes, CRAPPER version of Green Day would be more accurate, but you get my point. I still dig Sikth though, partly because the video for How May I Help You was so great, so Steviekick, I'd still say they're worth looking for.

Don't know how many people will give a damn about this result, but a victory of this magnitude over our fellow Brits makes me a very happy boy and gives me a new reason to feel hopeful for our World Cup qualifying campaign. Best of all was the Earnshaw hattrick, which really shows that Wales are perfectly capable of scoring without Hartson or Bellamy. Yep, sporting life is pretty good.

Oh God no! Lance may be the whitest man ever and you KNOW the WWE would be unable to turn down the idea of a Lance/Cena rap off.
-
Honest opinion? I love Lance, but I wouldn't want to see him switch brands unless it served a purpose, like a renewed push. They can't make the brand extention look as pointless as it did during the early days, when anyone could swap sides whenever. The Matt Hardy jump to Raw and the rule that seems to exist of "any injured Smackdown superstar will return on Raw" (see Mark Henry, Maven and possibly Edge) have weakened the boundaries enough without a pointless Lance Storm jump.
-
Hopes have been raised...hope probably to be dashed. Is Lance going to Smackdown? I'd like to think so, but the negative tone this thread is taking leads me to believe a foul trick has been played on my soul.
-
Damn, also forgot to mention the excellence that is Sikth. I heard they were touring a bit in the States, so hopefully some of you will get to hear them. They're kind of like a more listenable version of the Dillenger Escape Plan.

It's like a car crash- you don't want to look, but when you know it's there.... In my own defense, the Cat was leaning backwards, hands in the air and lil' Ern is being pushed out IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. It's kinda hard (no pun intended) to miss. Sorryabout the mental trauma caused by this thought.

Alright, when did Kastle and Young form a team! That's great, both men have a lot of potential, in spite of how green they are, and Cory K is a much better fit with Young than Jude was. Colour me happy.
-
One of my most horrific moments was watching WCW when Ernest Miller was going for his stupid elbow drop thing and as he stood there, arms wailing away, the Cat's "scratching post" was pushing out against his tights. Not a happy sight.

It was in no way funnier than this. After seeing that, I wouldn't even attempt to argue. Steiner and Orton went for a slow, sensual session of manlove, but Kurt and the Big Show are going at it hammer and tongs.
-
According to billygunn.co.uk (yes sadly such a site does exist), Billy needed neck surgery which meant the titles were vacated.
-
That was Randy Orton getting some backdoor love from Freakzilla himself, Scott Steiner. Also the entire end of Sid vs Hogan from WMVIII was a botch, with Papa Shango taking WAY too long getting to the ring, meaning Sid had to kick out of the legdrop, thus ruining Hogan's "retirement match"

The infamous Nathan Jones "ghost kick" The awful pescado that Gail Kim tried on Raw once when her foot got caught on the top rope and she fell face first

1) Hogan appealed to the fans by making them feel part of his team. References to the Hulksters, spending time posing for the fans all made the fans feel like Hogan was wrestling for them 2) Undeniable charisma. True, his interviews were quite samey, but this was the 80's. He said everything a face should- he preached about prayers and vitamins, he appreciated loyalty from his friends and he swore vengeance against those who had done wrong. Back then, you didn't have to be funny, just able to talk clearly and have something sensible to say. 3) Physical presence. Hogan looked like a star. The fans he had brought in weren't your typical workrate friendly fans, but those who wanted to see a powerful looking face taking over on the despicable heels, and Hogan had that appeal. 4) Timing in the ring. Hogan may not have been a ring technician, but he knew when to make his comebacks to get the best possible response. Take a beating for a while, then, when you hulk up and make your comeback, BOOM, the fans know that the heel is going to get his. By keeping it basic, Hogan could appeal to a greater audience.

Thing is, the taped PPV will need to be awesome. If people read the spoilers and see Konnan vs Shane Douglas or someancientwrestlerwhocanhardlymove vs Jeff Jarrett, then no-one will buy it. If they read the spoilers and see a great X Division match or someone like AJ or Raven winning the title (unlikely, I know) then the buyrate will be decent.

Shit, sorry Corey, just re-read the opening post and I haven't phrased it well at all. I meant to ask if UK metal acts from recent times have been popular in the US- the past/present thing was meant to show bands who still exist and those who have split. Nice to see the mighty Akercocke are vaguely known, shame no-one seems to know of Medulla Nocte, they were so damn heavy (musically and physically- the drummer was a fat, fat bastard) that it would have been nice to see them get more acclaim.

Having seen some of Tony Mamaluke's work in CZW over the last year, the guy has certainly changed his style. He's toned down the ridiculous highspots (which I though he'd do for sure in CZW) and started a shooter/submission style character for himself which works a lot better for him. Him and Nunzio reformed could be great as a tag team (dreams of FBI vs TWGTT)
-
Yeah, but I KNOW how those acts are received in the US. I know that Sabbath, Maiden, Motorhead and Cradle are all popular in the States from reading the posts in this board and from reading the metal press in the UK (seven years of subscription to Metal Hammer). It's not that the bands I listed are the only UK metal bands I've heard of (I DO listen to, and know a lot about, metal music), but the ones whose popularity, if any, in the States I was curious about.
