The OAO AFC CHAMPIONSHIP THREAD!!!
Der Kommissar replied to Dr. Tyler; Captain America's topic in Sports
I disagree. Getting that TD would have had the Patriots reeling. At worst, they would have stopped them, and the outcome would have the same. Going for the field goal seemed to say that the Patriots beat them on that drive, and that they don't trust their team to get a TD from two yards out. Even with the field goal, they were delaying the inevitable because they would have had to have gone with a two point conversion anyway, if they continued their rally. At least by going for it, they put faith behind their offense, and would have put the momentum solidly in their favour if they have scored the TD. I don't know about that. If they were pinned down at the 2, the Patriots may have taken the safety anyway. The Steelers would have still needed at least two TD's to win, even with the safety, and I can't imagine Belichick giving his streaking opponent possibly great field position should the punt get blocked or the Steelers have a good return. I could be totally off base(as it would take it from a situation where the Steelers need two TD's to tie the game to needing two to win the game) about that, but I remember the media patting Belichick on the back awhile ago for his "situational coaching" skills by pulling a similar move in a game. -
The OAO AFC CHAMPIONSHIP THREAD!!!

If this keeps up, then I guess that "Pittsburgh's going to the Super Bowl" song I heard when I passed through Pennsylvania earlier this week will be out of date quickly. Seriously, why create a song "Super Bowl" song if your team isn't yet in the Super Bowl? That's just welcoming a huge letdown. -
Asian one - 60% 921 seconds. Much better than I expected, especially after starting terribly. Thankfully, after I pieced Russia in there, it was a lot easier. Africa - 53% 1387 seconds(had way too many distractions) WAY better than I had any right to be. I only really knew Northern Africa, Madagascar, South Africa, and Namibia before taking it. I could kick myself for missing something as easy as Swaziland though. South/Central America - 75%, but I can't remember the time I had on it. I am just glad I didn't do too horribly on these.

Interesting matches we've never seen/heard about
Der Kommissar replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Also from cawthon's site: WWF @ Chicago, IL - AllState Arena - February 18, 2002 (13,967) WWF Tag Team Champions Tazz & Spike Dudley defeated Brock Lesnar & Leviathan in a dark match. It's kind of hard to believe that Brock & Batista once lost to Spike Dudley and a Smackdown announcer. I just quite can't picture how that match would have went. -
I disagree. I can't imagine, say, Sweden having too many human rights violations, if any at all.

What happened in the WWF the day you were born?

As well as the big Hennig/Doherty blow off. I am guessing this was before the time that Doherty became a full-fledged jobber. At least I hope, a DQ in a jobber match just sounds horrible. -

WWF @ Portland, ME - July 14, 1981 Curt Hennig defeated Pete Doherty via disqualification The Moondogs defeated Tony Altimore & Dominic DeNucci WWF World Champion Bob Backlund fought George Steele to a double disqualification WWF IC Champion Don Muraco defeated Tony Garea Rick Martel defeated Sgt. Slaughter via disqualification Sounds like a bit of a crappy card. -
I always saw Hardcore Holly as being the epitome of averageness.

Well, I think puppies would be better than a lot better than some of the crap I have seen while flipping through the channels. Then again, so would a static screen, but that's besides the point.
-
Destiny Channel? That just sounds horrible. Another one I heard that is starting up soon is MTV India. Basically, it's going to cater to Indians living in the US, if I read the article correctly. That seems like a bit of a niche market, but I'd watch because I have found the Indian music videos I watched to be a total guilty pleasure. Assuming they show music videos, of course, this is MTV we're talking about...

Because they wanted Mariucci, but couldn't get him, so they nabbed his offensive coordinator instead. At least he gave the Lions classic moments like saying that he "wanted the wind" when winning an overtime coin toss. This caused his team to lose the game when the opponent scored on their first overtime possession. That was one of the most awesome coaching gaffes ever.

I'd also have to agree with the previous two posters. Tiny Music was certainly an underrated album by them. I was initially weary when I saw the Big Bang Baby video, but after buying the album, it became a favourite of mine. I definitely recommend it. I wouldn't suggest Shangri La though. To its credit, I did like it for about a week, but I became bored with it quickly. It just seemed lacking to me, and was not up to their previous efforts. It was a major disappointment, IMO.

Toxic by Britney Spears.

I think that may have been the season before. 2001 was the year they started the year 0-12. It was most memorable for the fact that they would often have the lead in the 4th quarter, then promptly blow it in the final seconds, leading Matt Millen to weep every week they lost. Honestly, Matt Millen postgame facial expressions had to be the best part of that year. I was so disappointed when they beat the Vikings. Another fun year: The 1999 season where they became one of the only teams to beat the Rams that year. Unfortunately, they promptly fell apart, and limped into the playoffs at 8-8, losing to the Redskins. That's what I like about the Cardinals, they just suck. It is not like the Lions who give you hope before they proceed to blow it.
-
Let's not forget about the Detroit Lions. Even when they do well, they will find a way to embarrass themselves. Not to mention finding new and creative ways to lose(See also: their 2001 season and rallying back in the final seconds against the Minnesota Vikings only to lose on a botched extra point.)

Unless Torry Holt discovers the true meaning of how to catch a pass thrown by Jamie Martin, I have about my doubts about that one. It's currently 84 to 61, last I checked, BTW. I knew I should have started Billy Volek...

It looks like my team is about done. Good god did they play horribly today.
-
They have Tampa Bay + New Orleans left. Boy, I am glad I started Jake Delhomme on my fantasy team this week. I just hope Carolina pulls this one out.

Well, on the Royal Rumble site they show a still of the Raw superstars. From there, I can recognize Edge, Christian, Benoit and Flair. It looks like Orton is in between Ric Flair and the guy in blonde wig. I am still trying to figure out who the jacked up guy in the red shirt is on the right corner is. It sort of looks like Val Venis, but he seems to be a little large to be Val.

I think a blue marijuana leaf would be more fitting for this league.

I am somewhat excited about it as well. Southern Miss is usually the team I end up choosing in video games, and I always feel bad for the Sun Belt. They're like the forgotten conference. Of course, I am cheering for Southern Miss as well here. They can't lose to a team that lost to Baylor. Of course, if by some miracle, they did that would mean that Nebraska lost to a team who lost to a team who lost to Baylor, which I would find somewhat humorous.

It looks like: The Indians just traded Matt Lawton for Arthur Rhodes.
-
It works for me. My three positions of need in the draft appear to be a backup RB, a backup QB, and a third wide receiver. I figure I should be able to fill one of the three among the guys in the rookie draft. BTW, how many bench spots will there be next year? From the sounds of it, there is only going to be 2. I am just wondering.
-
A rookie draft could be interesting, but were there 16 rookies(who could be useful in fantasy football) that have made some sort of impact this year? Offhand I can think of Kevin Jones, Roy Williams, Ben Roethlisberger, and Michael Clayton as well as guys who played late in the year like Eli Manning and Julius Jones. It's an interesting idea in theory, I am just not sure if it would work in practice.
-
Well, I guess he gets a lot of practice from being on Baylor and all. Nice to see that someone on Baylor won something though.
