I shall return.

I remember strongly considering her, at one point. Alas, I decided against putting her there. Whoops.
-
I would also like another year of this also. I have had such fun in this contest.

I played it, and I have to say that I was really disappointed by the game. It had its good points, but a lot of it felt bogged down by what felt like filler and stuff that reminded me why I dislike RPG's these days. Not a bad game overall, but I wouldn't vote it game of the year or "BEST SUIKODEN EVER!" like I have heard it called by some people.(I'm not referring to Misawa here, BTW.)
-
I have heard it was because his agent told him that the James Bond franchise was dying, and that there was no point in sticking with a sinking ship, or something to that effect.

I remember one time an idiot employee was trying to sell me a pre-order to a game that likely wasn't even in production yet, if the game even existed at all. I decided to play along and ask when the game was coming out. He took a look for it, but couldn't find it. He even asked some other employee who flat out told him the game didn't exist. I had the hardest time not busting out laughing through the whole thing.

Examples of Milking a Franchise After It's Lifespan Ended
Der Kommissar replied to a topic in Video Games
I'd have to agree, unfortunately. The fact that they just did two prequels in a row doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that they will ever get around to wrapping up whatever story they were working towards in the first three games. I wasn't a huge fan of 5 myself. I thought it was an okay game that had a lot of good points in it, but a lot of other things just felt tacked on to me. It was a step in the right direction for the series in terms of quality, but the series still just feels dead in the water to me. That's too bad. I remember playing the hell out of Uncharted Waters II, and it still remains one of my favourite video games to this day. It's nice to see that some more were made. Maybe if I get really bored, I'll try to see if I can find a rom of these untranslated games, then try to have at it. -
Examples of Milking a Franchise After It's Lifespan Ended

Heck, you could probably just say Koei's use of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story in general. They have the Dynasty Warrior games, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Kessen II all being based on the same story and characters. It's too bad, too, as I have liked a lot of Koei's historical games(L'Empereur, Genghis Khan, Uncharted Waters and its sequel, and so on), but they keep on milking the Romance of the Three Kingdoms ad nauseum. -
Out of curiosity, when will next year's version be set up?

Examples of Milking a Franchise After It's Lifespan Ended
Der Kommissar replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in Television & Film
Problem Child 3 I think Son of the Mask would fit here. I feel bad for whoever thought making a Mask sequel eleven years after the original was a good idea. At least they didn't drag out any of the main characters from the first one, I suppose. Oh yeah, here's another one: Major League. I thought 2 was okay, but I saw no point in bothering with making "Back to the Minors." -

Any sequel that stars French Stewart(Home Alone 4 + Inspector Gadget 2). I won't say Problem Child 2, because I liked it, but I never really saw the point of doing Problem Child 3. It was reduced to being a TV movie starring William Kaat, and basically erased everything that happened in the second one. What was the point? Interestingly, I saw George of the Jungle 2 awhile back, and that was surprisingly better than I expected it to be. It seemed like the writers knew they were a direct to video sequel that really shouldn't have been made, and they had fun with it. I tend to agree with that statement. I doubt they'll ever be another franchise that manages to last 21 movies. Heck, most are practically on life support by the time the 3rd movie comes out. Sure, Bond has his misfires, but I think I would rather watch From a View to a Kill than most of the movies mentioned above, any day. -
That's awesome. As a Lions fan, I don't know what to find funnier: 1) The fact that the Lions signed McCown to a 4 year 11.5 million contract to be, like, the fourth or fifth receiver. 2) The fact that, instead of signing McCown, the Lions could have just signed a WR, and drafted a QB in the draft. The fact that both Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler were right there for the taking just makes it even worse. 3) The fact that the Lions are now using a converted safety and a QB as wide receivers after using their first round picks on wide receivers three straight years.

The One and Only "Casino Royale" Thread
Der Kommissar replied to Jonathon's topic in Television & Film
They can't, actually, due to some legal issues. Basically, a guy named Kevin McClory claims to have come up with the ideas in Thunderball, and the organization known as SPECTRE and Blofeld. After years of legal battles, the courts finally agreed with him, giving him a certain amount of right to the characters, and allowing him the option to make a Bond film involving an atomic weapons threat(Never Say Never Again). As for my opinion of Casino Royale, I thought it was okay. Much like Justice, I didn't like the pacing much. I also didn't like how the villains were underdeveloped, and, in some cases, not even named. For instance, Le Chiffre's entourage of the older Chinese woman, the blonde, and the two guys(I believe). Who were they? Why were they hanging out with Le Chiffre? What was their importance in whatever Le Chiffre was doing? That said, I did like a lot of the ideas and changes to the formula that were used in this movie. I especially loved how Bond made the newspaper after he I always wondered what some of the fallout would be like to some of the stuff Bond has done. I also liked Craig as Bond, and feel that they have fixed a lot of the problems of the previous films. I am still not getting the "OMG! 10 out of 10! GREATEST BOND EVER!" opinions that a lot of Bond fans are giving this film though. I give it a 6 out of 10 right now, as the pacing issues just killed it for me. Assuming they work out some of the problems they had in this film, I think the next one should be awesome. -
What do you know? For once, a risky pick didn't backfire. At least I have a sliver of a chance of getting into a bowl game now.

Sounds about right to me. Of course, the fact that it is aiming to be FRWL probably helps it in a lot of Bond fans' eyes. There are some Bond fans that have been clamoring for another FRWL for a long while, so any Bond film within the same stratosphere seems to be hailed by them as a success. The fact that it followed the much maligned Moonraker also helps. Plus, a lot of fans seem to dislike the Moore years with a passion, so I think more than a few list that one as their favorite Moore by default because they disliked the rest of the Moore films.

I have no intention of buying the set myself, but I can finally complete my collection of the old ones now that they are rolling in at various used DVD shops that I frequent. I already grabbed the Living Daylights yesterday, and am looking forward to getting the rest that I need when Volumes 3 and 4 of the new boxsets are finally released. I am shocked they even did it, honestly. Originally, it was put in the script to introduce a new James Bond, but the new Bond idea was scrapped after Moore signed on for another film. Further complicating things, they couldn't call Blofeld by his name due to legal reasons. I wish they had just left him "dead" after Diamonds are Forever. I liked Die Another Day myself. I thought it was a fun action film, and the film that got me into Bond films in the first place. It probably would have been better had it not been a 40th anniversary film, but I enjoyed the finished product. That's why a lot of people like it though. It's "gritty" and "real." I am not a huge fan of it myself, as I prefer the escapist element of Bond. Like you, I find it to be pretty much average, and it's probably on the low-end of my Top 20 Bond films list, beating out only the World is Not Enough and Diamonds are Forever.

I went with the Chevy. I only watched that one once, and it managed to annoy the hell out of me. I can only imagine how it is for people who see it regularly. It's not to say that I didn't think long and hard about choosing the "Is it Monday yet? I want the weekend to be over, so I can go back to work and watch Wallace/Walter become this generation's Montana/Marino on Monday Night Football!" commercials. To be fair, though, Nothing will top the "OMG! A cancer...caused by a virus?!? I have to tell someone!" commercials for me. I have seen that one at least a hundred times, by now. I am guessing everyone in America now knows that there is a cancer that could be caused by a virus, so, please feel free to stop playing these awful commercials now.

I really need to stop picking Texas A & M. This is the second time I lost a game because they gave up a TD in the final seconds. How frustrating.

Looks like my team is finally going to break its 5 game(ouch!) losing streak, after Oklahoma nearly gave me a heart attack. It's nice to see I can still best the Pac 8.

I remember watching the end of Hofstra/Delaware last year. That was awful. Despite having one of the better running backs in the league, Delaware didn't even bother trying to get him the ball when they had a 2nd goal at the Hofstra 1, while being down 10-6 late in the game. Sure, he was having a bad day on the ground, but I think I'd trust my big time running back to be able to punch it in from the 1. They didn't, apparently, as they threw three passes that went nowhere. Just utterly baffling coaching late in that game.
