The conflict over Northern Ireland has gone on for decades and has caused the loss of thousands of innocent lives through terrorist action, often by those wanting to liberate Northern Ireland. However, the fact is that this conflict is more about nationalism and religion than any sort of political liberation. For a long time this conflict has been used as a justification of (sometimes violent) hatred towards the English and as an excuse for fighting between Catholics and Protestants. However, ultimately if Northern Ireland was given its "freedom", things wouldn't really be any different. Northern Ireland already has its own assembly which is in charge of the country and as I said previously The Queen and the Prime Minister rarely interfere in Northern Irelands business. The only real change would be that Northern Ireland "may" change to the Euro, but the effects of that on the nation would probably be negligible. So, Mole, what should Northern Ireland be freed from? Do you actually have a view on this situation? Do you back the terrorist movements of organisations like the IRA? Or were you just saying something totally extrenuous in order to make yourself seem like a clever man? Ireland is free. Both Northern and Southern Ireland are ultimately ruled by the Irish. The Queen has jurisdiction over Northern Ireland, but rarely uses it.
