The ACC also isn't what it used to be and Miami isn't in the Big East anymore
-
USC and Texas are the biggest name programs in talent-rich states, whereas the three Florida schools are all big name programs in one state with a lot of talent, so they clash more for that top talent. Coker should go ahead and get his resume ready if they don't win the ACC.

Chase Utley hits a 2-out HR in the bottom of the 10th to finally beat the Astros.
-
I don't know what was worse, Garner intentionally walking Howard to start the bottom of the 9th, or Manuel's genius strategy after Howard got on.
-
If the Phillies somehow can get the Wild Card and Ryan Howard hits 60 HRs, he's gotta at the least finish second, if not win, the MVP voting for the NL. But our bullpen SUCKS. Arthur Rhodes is a flat-out bum, and it was depressing to see Geary blow a lead today too.

Cannot wait for PSU/ND next week, going to be a great game.

Fucking ISU cost me my parlay, I had South Carolina and the under in the ESPN game.

Just you wait until Al Golden Showers wins on the Temple program! Yeah, bad pun I know. Temple athletics have really falled off the face of the earth since 2000-2001. Well, we at least knew Temple's football program sucked then too, but who knew the basketball program would fall into mediocrity as well? I bet Nova's football team would do better than Temple if they moved up from 1-AA, at least we've been solid the past several years there (except for last year with the injuries, we actually beat Temple at the Linc in 2003), and we wouldn't get kicked out of the Big East like they did.

I did get to see the Dodgers/Reds highlights from last night's 16 inning game. Ryan Franklin finally helped out the Phillies I see....

Good moves today. I imagine Detmer will try to get into coaching now, a nice field for him. As for Mr. Softee, a parting memory for us all

Howard just hit his 48th and tied Mike Schmidt's record.

Hilarious. Get your popcorn ready, Parcells will be ready to deactivate him by Week 4 I bet.

Since we have an NFL YouTube thread, I figured we could have a college football one too: 1992: Final two Notre Dame plays in "Snow Bowl" vs. Penn State

Crouch is definitely at the top of the list. 2001 really showed the Heisman's bias against underclassmen, because had Rex Grossman been a junior or senior instead of a sophomore, then he wins in a landslide over Crouch. It wasn't Grossman's fault that the Gators offensive line got demolished by the Tennessee defense, Travis Stephens ran over the Florida defense, or that Earnest Graham was injured, hell Grossman kept Florida in that last game in 2001 against Tennessee. -
The fans booing him was pathetic. Hitters tend to strike out from time to time. They should have cheered the two runs scored. EDIT: Let me point out that Utley struck out too. Some can say Abreu is overpaid and "unclutch", but at least he would've shown more patience at the plate there.
-
And Burrell strikes out to send the game to extra innings. God how I wish they could've unloaded him instead of Abreu.
-
The Reds just hit three straight home runs off Brett Myers.

I've been saying all off-season that a 10-6 record could win the division this year. It really will come down to injuries, I'm happy that the defense has looked great so far, I think that was a big reason for the 6-10 record last year. What really scares me is the depth issues though, one big injury (Westbrook, Brown, Trotter, safeties) could mean that a young guy has to start, and you really take a gamble with that. Some of the rookies, especially Omar Gaither and LaJuan Ramsey are looking great so far, and I'm really happy that the offensive and defensive lines are young and deep and will only get better over time. BTW, I'm going to the game on October 8th. I'm afraid that ESPN will hype that game 300 times worse than the Duke-UNC game that they used 3 different camera angles for back in March. I'm not so worried if Westbrook gets injured, because Ryan Moats has shown his potential last year. And they ARE going to hype the October 8th game badly.Think of how badly they have tried to make this whole McNabb Vs. Owens fued happen. I blame ESPN for this whole drama in the 1st place. Oh I can imagine how bad the hype will be. Ed Werder reporting from Dallas that week and Sal Paolontonio reporting from Philadelphia, with about 80 percent of each Sportscenter the week before the game devoted to it. I bet WIP will be worse with Cataldi, his Retard Thirty, including that moron garbageman Shoulderpad Shawn, and Eskin kicking the hype machine into full gear that week.

PSU could go one of two ways next year. If they start out hot and get a split against ND and OSU and beat Michigan, they could finish 11-1. However, they could also lose those 3 games and drop 2 more and finish 7-5. My guess is they lose to ND and OSU, beat Michigan, drop a road game and finish 9-3 this year and probably make the Outback or Capital One Bowl. The 2007 team is going to be the one that makes a run for the national title due to the kids this year getting experienced. -
Apparently Freddie Mitchell is trying out for the Cowboys. I guess Owens wanted his gopher/waterboy there with him in training camp.

Howard hit his 39th tonight and the Phils won. It's really lucky Gillick actually was able to send Ryan Franklin and his shitty pitching to the wild-card leading Reds today...
