Let's Talk About Wrestlemania 2
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
Some of the stuff like Hogan/Bundy is certainly passable for a big show. The two tag team matches were pretty good, in the three star range. The two biggest problems were first, that the three-location format really led to a disjointed show. Second, the boxing match was really, really awful. I'm about finished watching the New York segment. The Orndorff/Muraco match was the best on the card but the non-finish pissed off the crowd. Savage/Steele was a bad match even by their standards. (I disagree that another match would've been suitable though, it was a memorable feud.) Jake Roberts/George Wells was just a showcase for the Snake. And the boxing match is perhaps the worst Wrestlemania match ever. -
Here's a link to Baseball America's Top 100. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...008/265655.html Pleasantly surprised to see three Phillies in the top 100. Adrian Cardenas isn't often mentioned, but he seems legit. Savery is easily a top prospect if the health fears do not materialize.

Marvin, you should know I meant steroid scandal without outright saying it.
-
It's all nitpicking of course. A 3% drop in attendance could be statistical noise. It certainly wasn't the result of disgusted fans turned away by Sosa's possible PED use. And it is of course worth noting that Sosa has yet to be named in any scandal whatsoever.
-
The Orioles were actually in first place until June that season. From June 21 to the end of the season, they compiled a 32-60 record.
-
As Landy says, it is a Maryland house show. The Owen match is the Wrestlemania match.
-
If there is a relationship, it's because Sosa hit .221 and gave the Orioles sub-standard production from right field.
-
The Hart/Flair match is indeed the title change. I've never seen it in full.
-
When the employment of Barry Bonds starts a drop in ticket sales, it will be the FIRST time a team lost money from employing a suspected PED user. They would without a doubt sell more tickets, a bit for the novelty but more importantly because they would win more games. Of course, this was probably all early offseason speculation coming out. They already signed Cliff Floyd.

You're supposed to think of Hawk Harrelson. THAT is hell.
-
I believe they made a conscious effort not to repeat matches from other dvds.

Spring Training games unofficially started today with three teams playing exhibitions against college teams. Michel Abreu hit a two-out, two run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the ninth to salvage a tie against the University of Michigan. Philly and Florida State got rained out. For those of you with XM Radio. Times Eastern. XM 176: Cincinnati @ Philadelphia, 1pm (YES!!!!!!) XM 177: NY Mets @ Detroit, 1pm XM 178: Colorado @ Chicago White Sox, 3pm
-
It shows me one of the great things about Spring Training we don't often see. Players and others joking around and just plain having fun. Sports are so much more fun when we don't lust after their blood.
-
Can't comment, since I haven't seen that dvd by comparison.
-
Absolutely.

Yeah, with sociology and philosophy a new version is probably unnecessary. -

What subject? Something like a math course you'll need to new edition. For a history course though it's inconsequential. And you could always consult with the professor themselves. Most of them know what a scam the college textbook market is. -
Just waving my humongous internet dick.

Finding footage of the '80s title changes is near impossible. I think because after popular title changes (Kerry Von Erich, Dusty Rhodes), promoters would flip the title back to Flair at obscure shows and venues. I'm reasonably sure Flair won title #5 from Dusty Rhodes in 1986 with the figure four, again with Dusty passing out similar to Randy Savage.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

I've been debating this one and I think it's safe to say this thread has far outlived its usefulness. It will be reopened if any real new news comes down the pike. -
Kershaw's a great prospect, but he's unproven above the Midwest League yet and more importantly, he is not yet on the 40 man roster. It'd be a reach to call him up unless he has a huge year.

Here's a question that popped up on BTF that's given me pause. Would the Rays have a better shot than the Phillies of winning the NL East. Dead serious here. Phillies have: -Impact Hitters. Chase Utley is the best 2B in baseball, Ryan Howard is the most powerful hitter in baseball. The Rays had a great year from Carlos Pena and a hit lucky year from B.J. Upton, but those may not hold up. The rest of the team is above-average at best. -Experience. Most of the Phils are established, the Rays are younger. -Top of the Bullpen. Tom Gordon has his detractors but he's produced every year. Ryan Madson is solid. The Rays meanwhile had the worst pen in baseball. -Defense. Victorino in center field, Pedro Feliz at third, with Rollins and Utley up the middle. The Rays defense was horrid, but will be vastly improved this season. Rays have: Pitching depth. Which would you rather start a rotation with? Hamels, Myers and Moyer, or Kazmir, Shields and Garza? The Phillies have Kyle Kendrick's less than impressive K rate behind that and a collection of contest winners. The Rays have a group of Andy Sonnanstine, J.P. Howell, Edwin Jackson, and Jason Hammel to cobble together a rotation. What strikes me about the Phillies is their complete lack of pitchers who could make an impact. Josh Outman is the great white hope. I'll take Phillies, but it frightens me a bit that the Rays almost have a better pitching staff. The Phillies have four pitchers guaranteed bullpen slots (Lidge, Tom Gordon, J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson). One of them will miss opening day. Beyond that is a list of "Who's That?" including two Rule V picks, a Tommy John survivor, a handful of minor league journeyman, a fat lefty nicknamed "Mini Me," and two guys named Durbin. The fat lefty has the lowest projected ERA of the bunch.

Hey, don't you know that proper urinating form is one of the 29 dimensions of proven compatibility? -
The problem with Piazza is that he's a tremendous defensive liability. Navarro is just 24 yet and had a great second half.
