Oh yeah, he's got a no trade clause as well.

MLB contracts Bobby Abreu makes $10 million next year.

I would absolutely not re-sign Turk Wendell. Look at his BB/K numbers. He walked more batters than he struck out. That's absolutely terrible. When you see numbers like that, you know the pitcher's luck is going to run out. Its only a matter of time before he collapses if he keeps that up. Plesac I keep. Oddly enough, he's 9th All Time in K/9 innings. What I thing the Phillies can and should do is stock the bullpen with their AAA guys. Wayne Gomes, Geoff Feary, Josh Hancock, Eric Junge, and Dan Giese should be good enough to fashion a decent reliever or two.

There's no "we" either. There is a "me" however.

The Phillies actually have alot of money to play with this year. Besides the $10 million they paid Millwood, they have around another $10 million from Mesa, Mike Williams, and a few other relievers whose contracts are up. I'd shore up the bullpen myself, and aquire another starter. Not a #1 necessarily, but someone who's consistant.

If you're going for a free agent hitter, why not target Miguel Tejada instead? I think shortstop could use the upgrade more than the outfield.
-
Funny you should ask. With our third round pick, the Pocono Poison select Vince Carter, of the Toronto Raptors. Yeah, its a gamble, but I think I'll need to gamble if I want to win this league. Carter will produce if and when he's healthy, and he's eligible at both guard and forward, giving my team some flexibility.

As for Vazquez, he had a 3.24 ERA, and a strikeout rate better than 1 per inning. He just entered his prime as well. I would LOVE to see him on the Phillies.
-
Bored- I can help you out here. I rule is six FULL years in the major leagues. SO if you were on the big league roster on opening day in your rookie year, you're eligible for free agency. Otherwise, you become a free agent after seven seasons.
-
Guess I'm not getting it in tonight. I'll be on tomorrow bright and early to get the pick rolling.
-
You can say that again.
-
What's scary is that I was thinking game 1 of the Sox/A's was one of the best playoff games in a long time. Now, it might not crack the top 5 THIS YEAR.
-
Bonds' contract runs through 2006.
-
Holy FUCK! I LOVE these playoffs.
-
Tejada's got a replacement, and Terrance Long isn't that good. I'd worry about Keith Foulke myself, but they still have that big three, and the Mariners are on the decline.
-
I've got my pick ready. I hope Mr. J comes in and makes his pick soon.
-
Why bother with Castillo when Chase Utley is on the team? Travis Chapman is lurking around as well, and he can play third. Here's what I figure..... C- Lieberthal 1B- Thome 2B- Utley SS- Rollins 3B- Polanco LF- Burrell CF- Byrd RF- Abreu Good enough lineup there. Offense isn't the problem. What the Phillies need is a solid starter, and a relief ace.
-
How about speculating on where free agents might go? I believe Mike Lowell is a free agent, isn't he? Also Vlad, Sheffield, Tejada, Keith Foulke, Bartolo Colon, Andy Pettitte, and Kevin Millwood.
-
It could work financially, but it wouldn't make any sense. The Phillies have $12 million tied at each of the corner outfield spots.
-
Yes its a hitter friendly league, but 20/20 with plate patience is good no matter where you play.
-
I'm 4th in line. I'll try and stay up as long as I can to get my pick in.
-
For those worried about the A's losing Miguel Tejada, I'd like to point out that Bobby Crosby hit .308 in AAA, with 22 home runs, 24 steals, and 63 walks.
-
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think any series can top that one. They were just evenly matched to start.
-
I have a suggestion. Instead of having this thread, why don't we open sperate threads for each series? This could get to be a problem tomorrow when two games go on at once.
-
Really, its just really bad luck. The A's were one damned hit away from advancing. Last year they won by one run as well. This is old history, but the Brooklyn Dodgers lost 7 World Series before they finally beat the Yankees.
