I'm really surprised Bobby Cox and/or Yunel Escobar did not go batshit over that call. If it were Red Sox/Yankees, it would end up on a documentary.

I got a disgusting amount of phone calls the last few days, and not just from presidential candidates. http://www.wnep.com/Global/category.asp?C=...p;nav=menu158_2 Here's something amusing. Check out the bottom race for State House, 113th district. Note the votes from Republicans and compare them with the votes from Democrats. Obviously greater turnout for the democrats due to their presidential primary. The 10th Congressional race is important, as that region has a democratic incumbent but is primarily republican.

Great ninth inning for the Phillies, as Burrell clears the bases with a double and puts the team up 8-6. Brad Harman got his first MLB at bat as well.
-
I hate to keep harping on minor league teams that no one else cares about. Barring a ninth inning miracle though (they're down 13-6), the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are about to fall to 2-18. They have scored just 45 runs in their first 20 games. Brutal. Edit: Here's a fun stat. Counting the Ottawa days, the last time the Phillies' AAA team had a three game win streak was last May.

A nearby restaurant used to do chicken & waffles. They used roasted/baked chicken though, that's the way to go.

Why does Wright need to move? The best free agent on the market is likely Mark Teixeira.
-
Like most franchise moves, it's a money grab and pretty disgusting to watch.
-
Do you have some sort of raging desire to make death threats? Agent covers the folder, so this really isn't my call. I'm just giving the best answers I can at the moment.
-
I don't recall saying I'd ban people for making death threats in NHB. If I did, it was years ago. Tzar Lysergic posted a thread that is pinned at the top of that folder in September of '06, that's our current (virtually non-existant) rules of the forum. If you have a problem, ask him about it. There is NO rule currently stating it is off-limits.

Chris Britton, Edwar Ramirez, Ross Ohlendorf. The Yankees aren't lacking in extra arms. Im guessing that trade is in favor of the Yankees then..I thought he was out of baseball. Britton's an odd case. He has not missed any time, he keeps plugging away in Scranton. He puts up good numbers. Doesn't get hit, few home runs, few walks, lots of strikeouts, good ERA. And he has a full season of success in the Majors! Yet the Yankees seem completely uninterested in him.

Because a race isn't a one-on-one contest, so it is harder to win on a regular basis. She's overhyped as far as talent, but it's not like she is undeserving of a spot in the circuit. Frankly, her presence is good for IndyCar racing.
-
That's not the point, Al. You're saying NHB means NHB, as I understand it. I don't think that's the best way to go about things, but it's an unpopular opinion and probably unworkable in practice. I'm just voicing my thoughts.
-
No Holds Barred is just that. Unless a rule is specifically stated, just about anything is in-bounds in that folder.
-
Well, this seems to be a call to eliminate the NHB folder. Not quite. I'm thinking more of a starter. Yes, things get heated in this folder. A poster shouldn't take that as free reign to blast someone in their first or second post.

Whitney Stevens wore the same shirt Ashley did in a porno somewhere.

I'm in favor of keeping things loose, but as a rule I think we should draw the line at personal attacks towards posters themselves. If things are unmoderated, that shouldn't be an invitation to lash out as posters whenever so inclined.

Meanwhile, I'll be surprised if Kyle Kendrick does not end up in the minors by mid-May. He is just not that good a pitcher to continually compete at this level.
-
Lehigh Valley lost again, falling to a pathetic 2-17 record. This is just depressing.

PBS's "American Experience" program is airing a piece on Roberto Clemente tonight.

Personally, I think that if a pitcher can at all be a starter, that should be his role. Especially if that relief role is anything but the relief ace, and even then it's iffy. A closer is only valuable if a team can take a lead into the ninth in the first place, and if you do that more times than not you will win no matter who your closer is. Joe Borowski last year was as bad a closer (in terms of ERA) as any team has had in recent memory, and the Tribe was 80-4 when they led after eight. The problem here is that making the move now may have an adverse effect on Joba Chamberlain. It can be difficult to make the switch from a one-inning reliever to a starter midseason. Chamberlain has never pitched more than 120 innings in a season.

Let's review. Mussina is a 39 year old pitcher with 251 wins and a .631 career winning percentage. Yet he needs to learn how to pitch. The problem isn't the content of Steinbrenner's ideas. You don't undercut your GM or field staff. Father George did this same stuff in the early '80s and nearly wrecked the franchise.

National Games MONDAY Boston @ Cleveland, ESPN 7pm ET WEDNESDAY Boston @ NY Yankees, ESPN2 7pm ET SATURDAY Fox Baseball, Check Local Listings SUNDAY LA Dodgers @ Atlanta, TBS 1pm ET NY Mets @ Philadelphia, ESPN 8pm ET There you go Smues, Braves are back on TBS for an encore. Odd scheduling as the Red Sox go to Cleveland for two games, and then the Yankees again for two before going home to face the Texas Rangers. Question here for Yankees/Red Sox fans only. What is your view of the rivalry now, in 2008?

Dear god. If your scouts tell you his swing is gone, that's one thing. But this? Riccardi is an idiot. If he hit the 300 at-bat mark with the Jays he was owed an extra $10 million. I'm aware. Saying he's an idiot is probably strong, since Riccardi likely does not really believe the reason he gave.
