And yet again Pisani gets a goal as 2 Wings cover the wrong guy. Detroit doesn't deserve to win this series. Even when they play even with the Oilers, they do something like that. Edit: Now 3-2 Detroit again, as Franzen(who helped screw up on the second Oiler goal) gets it. Hell of a game regardless. Chelios and Lebda on defense are hurt.

Man, I really like how the Oiler crowd doesn't deflate after a score against them like 90% of arenas in most sports. They go down 2-0, and it's "Let's Go Oilers", and not the stunned silence for a minute or two most places have. If the Wings can't pull off the comeback though, I eagerly look foward to an Oiler/Flames match-up.

For about the 3 of us who might care, the Tigers swept the Twins this weekend by a combined score of 33-1. Having been on the other side of such a stomping, I can sympathize with the Twins fans a bit.

I firmly believe alot of it has to do with age, speed(specifically on defense) and the lack of toughness/grit/checking. They didn't defend at all in front of the net today, and as per usual they seem a step slow to the loose pucks and in keeping up with the Edmonton forwards. Most of the scoring chances are outside shots with few rebounds and alot of blocked shots(credit the Oilers for this).The guys that used to be counted on to get in the corners or in front of the net(except Holmstrom for the most part) are now older and slower. The new guys that they've brought in on both offense and defense aren't all that hard nosed(Kronwall will throw the occasional check.) And where the hell has Datsyuk been the last few years in the playoffs? He hasn't had a goal in 20something playoff games and 3 assists this series( yes, I take into account he's still probably hurt). He's supposed to be the next coming of..(insert name of whoever). Legacy of course hasn't looked good either. Of course I could be flat out wrong about all of this. As a follow-up cause I was curious, every game the penalties have been even or within 2 minors total per game. Wings looked to have taken more penalties in the third period/overtimes. I personally don't attribute that to "the evil refs" but due to the age/speed factors as the game goes on. Edmonton deserves every game they've won so far, and here's to hoping for a comeback.

Shush with the Refs and Wings vs Oilers. Homer crap sucks, you sound like the Yankees fans in the baseball thread. The refs have been bad on both sides and the Oilers have been the better team. I don't want a pissing match about it, but the officials have reamed both teams at various times. Take heart in the 3-2 series lead and how good Roloson has looked. Edit: Penalties were 6-Oilers vs 4-Wings. Having watched the game also, there were the usual missed calls on both sides. The "refs are against my team" stuff is annoying( especially when you win), it drags down most any discussion here. The hockey thread usually isn't that bad about it.

Wings look bad, and are down 3-0 towards the end of the second. The speed thing is killing them, and the defense is doing nothing in front of Legacy. Add to that Legacy being average at best all series and Roloson outplaying him, not looking good. 3-1 now on a Shanahan breakaway( that in fairness came off of a turnover on a hook/trip to Peca that wasn't called). I think win or lose this series, it's time to retool the team.

Refs have been iffy. I know the Wings side of it haven't been happy, and I've seen a few BS calls go against the Oilers this series. I think it's a wash, and that it's an even enough series that the calls are ending up a wash( though overall the refs have been mediocre at best).

Detroit ties it up on the powerplay at 1-1. Too bad, it had to come off of a Chelios dive while they were on a PK, then another iffy interference call on Edmonton to give the Wings the powerplay(god, I sound like a Yankees fan bitching about the other team). End result is a tie game towards the end of one period. Side note, the crowd is awesome, but the ice seems kinda bad.Kinda like it's a bit warmer than normal in the rink. And I know it's not the point of playoff hockey, but I'd love a fight this game(Detroit had 4 at last count towards the end of the season total). All in all a decent start tonight. Edit: 2-1 Edmonton as Legacy gives up a weak wrap-around goal. Mickey Redmond(Detroit color-commentator) is still having a shit-fit over giving that one up.

That was the fun of being a Wings fan early in the run. Getting beat in Game 7's(nightmares of San Jose still in my head, faint memories of Toronto loss the year before), getting massacred when they finally get to the Finals the first time in 95, until finally getting the cup in back to back years. The run up to and thru the 3 Cup seasons has been fun. Going thru the rough years to get to the good ones are what makes it fun. Bandwagoners suck. Too bad the Wings lost today. Not earth-shattering or even mildly suprising. They just looked a step slow for most of the second half of the game. nothing to do but look foward to game three.

Ugh, A friend of mine went to LSSU with Grahame, and acts like the dude is the second coming because of it(guess it's the knowing someone sorta famous even if the dude couldn't pick my friend out of a lineup). He's been borderline mediocre this year with a fomer Cup winning team in front of him. Don't need to hear it all over again if after the season he finally shows up. And selfishly, I'd love a Ottawa/Detroit finals.

Shots on goal 31-11 for the Wings after two periods. Oilers keep taking pretty dumb roughing penalties, but that hasn't hurt them yet. Two Powerplay goals on 11 shots for them. Excepting the bad penalties, it's the usual so far. Detroit getting hammered via the checking.Though they actually are throwing a few checks now that it's the playoffs. Not the best start to the series for the Wings.

Tigers make a 9th inning comeback to win 4-3.In a 15 pitch at bat that ended up loading the bases, Brandon Inge did get the benefit on a 2-2 check swing that was pretty clearly a go around, but called ball. Little shakey in the bottom of the ninth as Detroit doesn't have a real closer, but all in all a good little birthday present to get home and catch the comeback.

Don't really have predictions, just can't wait to catch as much playoff hockey as I can.Well, and root for Detroit. I hope for many 7 game series and something memorable to happen.

No other MLB baseball games on XBox. 2K series has the exclusive license now, so unless Microsoft itself decides to release a game, it'll be slim pickings for a while. I'm still playing MVP 05' due to this.

I kinda feel silly coming on and being happy that the Tigers are actually still above .500 after two weeks, with all the whining and crying going on about a .500 Yankee team(Cena's Writer seemingly excluded from the freak-out so far). That being said, great start for a team that seems to tick off 2-11 type of starts more times than not. If only they could get either consistant hitting or pitching.

I made the mistake of leaving it on ESPN 2 at night for a bit. I got to witness the suck that is "The 2 Stews" or something like that. Everything bad about Stephen A. Smith x2, with bad soud effects to boot.

Edmonton gave Detroit fits about everytime they played this year. They have enough speed to get around some of the slower defensemen with relative ease, and just seem to come up with the loose pucks more times than not. Detroit would still be favored, but it wouldn't be too much of a sure thing. As a fan I root for Detroit to go all the way, but they just seem to lack something(they get beat up by the other team a bit too easily even while winning, and struggle more than they should against the dreck of the league). That said, I thought the same thing in 01-02' when they won it. So here's to hope.

Detroit, being the non-fighting pansies comprised of old fogies and skill players that they are, probably won't do anything unless Shanahan does something. Man do I miss McCarty, Kocur, Grimson and the like that they have had over the years. Otherwise good game of skill vs speed and grit. Even though I wouldn't be confident about Detroit winning it, I would like a Detroit/Calgary playoff series.
