    The NHL Thread

From what I can see, he was deemed medically unable to play by the Rangers at last look. Has this changed? Or do you mean as a coach or otherwise? On a more personal fandom note, the Red Wings finish off their first ever back to back to back that's not a part of the playoffs tonight against the Blackhawks. It had become something of a tradition, or at least a coincidental occurrence for more years than not that the Wings/Hawks played on Halloween night, so kind of a bummer that the game tonight wasn't last night.

    NBA Week 1

Pistons came to a contract extension agreement with Tayshaun Prince last night. Terms I saw listed was 5 years/47 million.

"They are blacking out the games in NY because Cablevison refuses to carry OLN on the basic package, they carry it in the sports package and if you pay extra to get OLN, you still cannot see the fucking games." Pasted from another board. I'm not sure if this is the problem for you though.

    NFL Week 8

And the Lions choke in another insomnia inducing display of offense. Garcia at the helm is averaging about 13 points a game and throws an absolutely terrible pass in overtime, across his body on the run. It's taken back on the interception for a touchdown to put all football fans in general who had to watch this game, and Lions fans in particular, out of our misery. I point out the offensive output with Garcia leading, because around Michigan he was being heralded as the savior of the season by the fans. Well 2 games later, it's basically the same output, with a bit different spin. I don't think I'm for going back to Harrington as they've made the change already, and he had seemed to have lost the team. I guess I'll just have the naive eternal hope of the Lions fan hold me over, and hope when Rogers gets back and Roy Williams can play again, that they might break the 20 point barrier a few more times this year.

Red Wings quietly 10-1 with an 8 game win streak. But it's early yet, so not too much to get excited over.

Crimefighters. The boss fights were pretty cool, a great beat em up, and hell one of the first games I remember where you could knee the enemies in the nuts. Pretty funny.

    World Series-Astros vs White Sox

Iomasmoney's list applies to me basically, unabashed Michigan team homer. Except I was old enough to watch the Tigers win in 84'. So congrats to the White Sox, and Tigers in 06'? *Edit* Homer as in roots for my home state teams I grew up with. I can't stand blind followers of teams that cry over every single call against them or can't semi-objectively look at a game if their team is involved. Those homers suck.

    Cardinals/Astros NLCS Thread

If they were the Yankees they would have to double the team payroll.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

The gods of Basketball in Jordan and Magic etc, had no problem with it before there was ever a rule. Billy Hunter didn't think it was so bad when it was put in the CBA. The NHL has had a policy in place for a while now, no outrage or cries for the poor Canucks and Europe heavy player base. The players can still wear cornrows or long hair and such, and plain stud earrings are still allowed I assume(correct me if I'm wrong on that). The hair and earrings are more than I get at most jobs anymore. I don't know how many times I've been shot down for a job due to long hair not being allowed by the company rules. This is much ado about nothing.

    Brett Hull retires

As a Red Wings fan, I think of him as a Blues player. I hated it when Detroit got him. Oh well, he's not on the team and now retired, the world is a bit better.

This Week in College Football 10/13 - 10/15

Hasn't USC earned some of the hype going undefeated for so long? Honest question.

    Braves/Astros NLDS Thread

Farnsworth was great for the Tigers. Of course that goes along with Al's point of a tough homerun park. Looking at the Tiger bullpen as of now, I'll take him back. Don't have to worry about having a bad outing in a post-season there. Looking up his stats, he was 1-1 with a 2.32 ERA in 46 games/42 innings for Detroit, with only 1 homerun given up and 55 strikeouts. Whatever else he was in Chicago and Atlanta, I would take that back in Detroit.

    This Week in Baseball

On the Thome to Detroit idea. I can't imagine Detroit trading for him, considering the size of a contract for an injury plagued player (course, seeing the way Detroit has handled their free-agent signings lately, injury prone players are their favorites). Also, Carlos Pena came back from the minors late in the season and went on quite a tear. They have both Chris Shelton (who was as hot as anyone for a good part of the mid-season after being called up)who they seem to be high on, as well as Dmitri Young. So between the three of them, the DH/1B positions seem covered. That being said, I don't have faith that Pena can ever be consistant enough to be the permanent 1B though, but maybe a Shelton/Pena platoon could work for a year.

I'm hoping that McCarty is brought back. One of my favorites, and as said before, a hero in Detroit. Hatcher, eh I can live without. Same with Whitney.

    How do you feel

Voted one, as I really love hockey as my favorite sport. But a small part of me wanted to vote three, as this was as bad as any work stoppage ever. Worse than all others on field missing a full season, and the players and co. said some of the dumbest things I'd ever seen, right up there with the basketball players "charity" game for themselves("We make alot of money, but we spend alot of money") But it's back and with a good effort at balancing the league out, so I'm happy. Just hope Yzerman can make it one more year. Hope the rule changes aren't too severe but still help out the game.
  17. I've seen this on p2p forever, but when I broke down and tried to look up who really sings it, i come up with nothing. Anyone? My luck it will be something simple and obvious and I'll feel foolish asking.

    This Week(end) in Baseball

Tigers at two games below .500, have a four game series with the Royals. Good chance as any to become an above .500 team. If so, watch out and fear the mediocrity that is the Tigers!

    This week in baseball

A rare Yankee's game on TV? Do you work most days ESPN shows them? It's at least weekly. Sarcastic disbelief aside on that, the Tigers have stopped thier freefall after finally topping .500 tonight. Hopefully they can get a few wins strung together before the All-Star break. They have Bonderman going tomorrow, so I'm hoping for two in a row.

    NBA Finals

If good defenses can't stop good offenses, then wouldn't have Phoenix, Dallas, etc made it to the finals? If these 2 teams truly have no offensive skills, Detroit wouldn't be a defending champion and San Antonio wouldnt be getting to the finals every three years....they'd be, well Dallas or Phoenix. I am a Pistons fan, but the series has been bleh due to the blowouts. Winning team seems to shoot 45% or higher mostly, and in the case of the Pistons, super low turnovers. So thats efficient, not flashy. They up the total shots per game, then you'll get higher scores on both sides. Instead of 95-75 or whatever, its 105-88...thats not tons better either. Be bored with the series, dont watch it or whatever, that's cool. I have a dog in the fight, but if its over by the end of the 3rd quarter regardless of who is winning, I could care less. A good game has little to do with hitting a certain total, but it DOES have to do with close games usually. So enjoy the rest of the series if possible, or don't and lets all look towards football then.

Sabu to meet vince on Monday !

Throwing a bone to RVD, Dreamer, as well as Sabu. All you ever hear about is how broke down his body is and how poor he is. ECW ONS made a huge amount of money(probably), and every so often it seems (from the outside) that Vince does something that is just a decent thing. Probably a combo of dvd/24-7 deal with maybe a role for a bit on tv. Sabu can get that last good payday to set him up for his future.

Now that hockey's R&D camp is over

Goalie pads, gotta reduce them. I can live without some of the other proposed changes, but those and the clutch n' grab to me are some of the biggest problems.

    NBA Finals

Defense I guess equals goonery. Though as many times as Wade did a stop-jump forward into someone guarding him it evens out. And if it were true goonery his ass woulda never made it back in for game 7. As it was, good solid series. Detroit was definetly helped by a hurt Wade, but as it is, Detroit moved on and Miami has about two more years in the current window with Shaq to win it all. Now can we get back to the Spurs and Pistons?
