    College Hoops: 4/13/2006 - Midnight Madness (10/16/2006)

And even then, LOI's are no longer set-in-stone binding, escpecially if you've got a coaching change. The new coach basically has to recruit all over again. It used to be that those kids would go to the school even if the coach left.

Super Mario Bros. for the DS

Acutally it's World 2. I just did it on my 2nd Attempt Trying to do such. In fact getting to the 2 Secret Worlds (Worlds 4 and 7) are quite simple, but yet challenging. And the key is literally right under our noses. On your bottom screen, when you're on the world Map, look at the overall game map. You see the Worlds go 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the same line, then you have 5, 6 and 7 on the same line, then 8. Worlds 2 and 5 are the 2 points where the path divides on the map. See, how a few stages have different exit paths? This is the ultimate application of that theory, where your actions decide which world you will open up next. It's the ultimate validation of Mini Mario and of diverging Paths.

    Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

And this is why I miss the 6 Face Button Interface on controllers. It's the main thing that made the Japanese Saturn Controller my favorite ever. The SF II ascii pads are also awesome as well for 2D fighters, and I recommend them to everyone who doesn't like joysticks.

Super Mario Bros. for the DS

No, but you can always knock Lakitu off of his cloud and take control of it in certain levels. Loving this game so far. I didn't realize it had transports to other levels (i.e. the pipes in SMB or the Magic Flute in SMB3) until I unlocked one of the Cannon Stages and it shot me all the way to Level 5. Does anything care for the blue tutle shell? So far I've mostly run into into it on water levels, where it's friggin useless except for an extra hit. Which world are you up to? Cause I've been to World 3 and I found a perfect use for the Blue Shell in Underwater Levels. It allows you to swim underwater faster which is perfect for some of the higher pressure underwater siuations. Really, the Blue Turtle Shell in Theory, is a powerful weapon. If used correctly, it allows you to be able roll your way through a stage without the danger of getting hit by an enemy. However, with this perfect rolling shield, comes the price of control. One wrong wall bump, one wrong jump, or one exit from the shell form too early, and you're going to owned. The hardest part is to know where to use it.

Super Mario Bros. for the DS

Got the game Tuesday Afternoon and have finished the first 2 worlds so far. Just some first impressions. - Graphics are different from a typical Mario Game, but fit very well with what you would associate with a Mario Game. - Music is pretty good so far. I love the Default World 2 overworld stage music so far. However, those looking for nostalgia are going to be dissapointed. - Gameplay is excellent so far, all the classic moves are back, along with a bunch of new moves that are fucking awesome. The Wall Jump owns you, and has saved my ass quite a few times so far. Not to mention how fun it is take off with the Triple Jump. - The only disappointment is that there is not arbitary flying powerup, but the game is not designed for it. However, the new powerups definetely put a new spin on the gameplay (Blue Shell is powerful, but must be controlled. Mega Mushroom is a tank, but not invincible. The better strategy you have for using powerup, the better your rewards will be. And even the Mini mushroom comes with distinict advantages, but with deadly disadvantages too.) - Level Design is also classic Mario. There have been a few new elements that have made this game alot of fun to explore so far. However, I keep hearing that it gets better as it goes along. Personally, I can't wait to see it. Overall, the game is great, and just short of amazing as of world 2. Even with only 1/4th of the game over, I strongly reccomend this piece of sexiness.

    E3 2006: The Thread

They shoulda made this 2 minutes, cause there was much more editing to be had. Escpecially with the "no gimmicks" and "look I lift the controller and it flies" part.

    E3 2006: The Thread

I'm disappointed he didn't say anything about Tekken. Itagaki interviews are no good without the Tekken hate. Why would he have to say anything this go round? Tekken's embarassing performance speaks for itself. Also I think we can conclude where the console companies ranked for E3 1) Nintendo 2) Microsoft 3) Sony.

You do realize that in some conference room, somewhere.....MS and Nintendo are making last minute changes to their respective presentations. I wouldn't be surprised if MS isn't trying to get clearance to lower the price on the 360.

If this happens, fuck it. Let the Industry crash again. Sony better have something GOOD up its sleeve for me to buy it. Blu-Ray can bite me.

Sony-Age just exploded. The morons there acutally thought that it would come priced at $299. And they're acutally going to "take inspiration" from Nintendo. LOL Wow....The console Wars got alot more interesting in the West.

Super Mario Bros. for the DS

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find Mario Games particulary hard. The hardest game to me was Super Mario Brothers 2 (JP)/The Lost Levels, and I can beat that in one sitting now and days. Mario 3 (which I consider the best) is not so much of a challenge in its difficulty (Stages like 5-8, 6-9, The Third Mini Fortress in World 6, and the Mini Fortress in World 8 were the hardest Levels) as it was in its insane length and amount of things to see and do in one particular stage. Hopefully the challenge is in finding those things and exploring the game if not so much in its diffculty.

    "Revolution" officially named

On the Sega 1st party failure, I don't blame the SEGA CD so much. Why? Cause the Genesis was still selling at a fever pitch, and while it was mostly useless, it didn't so much harm Sega's Reputation that it caused Nintendo to win the 16-Bit wars by the thinnest of margins when 1996 was said and done (that was done by the software and "Play it Loud" marketing blitz that invaded the television screens in '94). I still attest to this day that Sega would've been fine if it just left well enough alone with the stupid decisions with the Sega CD. What really ruined Sega was. 1) The 32X being released period. Having such a stopgap for those who didn't want to jump into next generation was a horrible idea. 2) The Saturn not having a real 3D chipset, while this was probably the least of their offenses, stuffing one in there was still a bad idea. 3) Not winning the Square and Enix wars for Final Fantasy VII and Dragon Quest VII over Sony, which their 3D chipset had a hand in. 4) Releasing the Saturn in America as a "surprise" in May of 1995 for $399 with probably the worst launch lineup possible (Daytona was embarassing.) 5) Sega USA being adamant about showing the "3D capabilties" of the system and left the best software to rot in Japan. 6) The whole entire Working Designs mess, which doomed almost every single RPG to rot in Japan as well. 7) Abandoning the System in 1998, with almost no software to speak of until Fall of 1999 with the Dreamcast. 8) EA witholding support from the system, which basically shifted the power from the developer to the 3rd Parties...escpecially EA in America and Square/Enix in Japan. 9) E3 1999, and the PS2 showing. No games were shown, just tech demos. Tech Demos that looked so good, that it blew away the Dreamcast, making it look like a underpowered system in comparison. But when the acutal games came out, the differences were not so great, if any at all. But the perception was already there, and most everyone "waited" for the PS2. All 9 of these problems lead Sega to the point where it was no position to market the Dreamcast properly. With all of those factors in place (escpecially the cash factor), the DC was tragically stillborn, even with probably one of the greatest 2 year runs of software up till probably recently, it was never going to be enough. The DC never had a chance. As how this relates to the Nintendo Wii....Even though the Gamecube has been a "disaster" as far as market share and perception goes, Nintendo has two things that Sega didn't have with the DC 1) Money 2) A source of Money in its portable systems Also, while Nintendo's Brand Reputation has take a HUGE hit from the 90s, Nintendo's brand name is still worth 500000 times more than Sega's was in 1999, and as much as I personally don't like Nintendo's decisions from '94 on, they're not going anywhere. One could argue that Nintendo could easily make consoles forever, and still turn huge profits as long as they dominate the portable market, and produce their hardware and software to gurantee huge returns. The Wii shows that on one hand, Nintendo isn't happy with just that. They're aiming for the mass market in a different way than Sony and Microsoft are. And in my opinion, people will either love or hate this thing. There will be no inbetween in a few years.

    WWE 24/7 Online May line-up

Why can't they at least give them credit in the one area WCW undisputably handled better than WWF/E ever has. Cause no matter what, WCW will ALWAYS be hated by the upper WWE brass. Even after 5 years Vince continues and will continue to bury WCW for the rest of his natural life.

I'd hate to take a job that Steve F'n Lavin turned down. Going by this, he may not take it either. One reason may be due to the ridiculous buyout.

    College Hoops: 4/13/2006 - Midnight Madness (10/16/2006)

Wow, they really might end up offering it to Dickie V if this keeps up. If Lavin says no, they might as well call some NC public high school and try to steal away their girls basketball coach. If Steve Lavin says no, think about how humilated NC State is going to feel. It's one thing to be spurned by two Elite 8 Coaches, but to be rejected by a coach whose last memory on the hardwood was leading UCLA to their worst season ever, 3 years ago, that would be an indication of how much of a big mistake it was to try to force Sendek out the way they did. This isn't Indiana or Kentucky where there is enough street cred to be able to have a revovling door for coaches. Seton Hall also had to learn the hard way when they had to settle for their 3rd choice when Pecora and Larrianaga said No. NCState might as well call off the coaching search and start over the season after next. In other Darrius Washington of Memphis might declare for the draft.

I'm going to take the Devil's Advocate arguement and say that Morrison should stay in College. He needs to improve his mentality, and his play on Defense. Though with Joakim and McRoberts and a whole bunch of other good players waiting to break out, he may be better served to go now. Since we're on the draft....Does anyone think Gerry gets drafted? I say he goes early in the 2nd Round and becomes a project/role player for a few years.

What DVDs would you like to see the WWE release?

A Complete Starrcade Collection (1983 - 2000) with the full shows, including Entrances, Introductions and Promos. Including Extra Commentary and Bonus Interviews and Matches. A Complete WCW Great American Bash collection (1985, 1987-1992, 1995-2000 should be easy with each having a defining show that stood out, 1986 would have to be a "Best of" because the tour was so fucking hot.) with the Best Tour Matches outside the Main Shows (War Games II) as Extras. Raising The Roof: The Best of Harlem Heat A "Best Of" Clash of the Champions Set

That's wrong. Cronin is the new head coach of Cincinnati. Corrected. Also, the only reason why the NC State Head Coaching Job is garnering so much press is because of what Calipari did and how the NC State and ACC faithful are surprised that he would be "stupid" enough to not take a job with the "Greastest Basketball Conference" in History. The Wolfpack feels wronged and Memphis may get completely "blackballed" by the Conference. And oh...RWC will love this one....Their Fans have put Jay Wright on their short list of replacements (I know. I couldn't stop laughing.).
  23. And then there were 4. Four that are left standing. Four that have survived. Four that have earned the right to compete for the National Championship. And after. - 5 Months - Hundred of Games - Dozens of Climatic Finishes - And one amazing Run. We now have our four teams, and these are. - The UCLA Bruins - The Florida Gators - The LSU Tigers And the ultimate Cinderella that broke through the glass celing.... - The George Mason Patriots With no 1 seeds making it (a first since 1980), and only one team, even in the discussion to win a National Championship (UCLA), needless to say this season is finishing the way no one in their right minds (except for the hardcore fans of said teams) would think would happen. And even though this Final Four has no pre-season favorites, no 1 seeds, no All-Americans, no John Wooden Award Finalists, no Naismith Award Finalists and no Hall of Fame Coaches, it is shaping up to be one of the best Final 4s, ever. With that said, let the final act commence.
