    Any blues aficionados here?

not true. robert johnson & the little i've heard by blind lemon jefferson murder him on ability, with their insanely hard "play the rhythm AND the treble" method. i've never heard anyone do that technique nearly as well as they do (except stanley jordan, who doesn't count cause he's jazz).

    States you've been to

but there's nothing between athens and atlanta. unless you count lawrenceville. which i don't.

    States you've been to

i hate the south. hate it. with the exception of phoenix, augusta, ga is the most boring city i've ever been to in my life. certain parts are cool, like around atlanta, but most of it...ugh.

i hate that state. hate it. phoenix is the most boring city i've ever been to in my life. certain parts are cool, like around flagstaff, but most of it...ugh.

    States you've been to

since i normally don't do much traveling, i'm kind of proud of myself that i've been to or at least driven through 14 states in the last 12 months (mostly thanks to 2 road trips: one to NY and one to IL). grand total of my lifetime, i've been to: CA, AZ, NM, TX, OK, AK, TN, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, KY, MO, IL, VA, WV, MD, PA, NJ, NY, MA. almost half. not bad, i guess.

What are you listening to right now?

    prince - "let's pretend we're married"
  7. i don't understand this reasoning at all. if this movie is inspired by a certain high school, how is my going to see the movie "supporting" this high school? do they get a percentage of the gross? will the people at this high school think "hey, lots of people saw this movie based on us, that means the american people support what we do! let's keep doing it!" if i see 'the motorcycle diaries', does that mean i'm supporting communism in cuba? i'm not seeing the connection.

miles davis - 'milestones'. very good stuff, if a little too upbeat & boppy for my taste. prince - '1999'. very good stuff. only listened to it once, but i think i might have finally found a prince album i can love unconditionally.

    Bill O'Reilly Vs. Jon Stewart

just because they make fun of both sides doesn't mean there's no bias. the daily show lays into the bush administration with considerably more venom than kerry. they make fun of kerry for being boring and standoffish; bush, cheney, et al. have been called everything from hopelessly incompetent to evil. sometimes even the insults to kerry actually do more to backhand bush. i remember stewart saying once in response to a sound byte of kerry getting into an argument on 'good morning america', "how come kerry sounds more like an asshole when he's telling the truth than bush does when he's lying?" the show has a pretty considerable left-wing slant.

The Offspring to release greatest hits

i wouldn't really say that "scream" got people to buy a greatest hits album, because 'history' wasn't really a greatest hits album, it was a hybrid: one disc of past hits, one disc of new material.

    Coca Cola "Refreshing Filmmaker"

i applaud coca cola's effort to support these young filmmakers. this contest is the perfect opportunity to prepare them all for the lifetime of shooting commercials that surely awaits them.

  17. it's been "murnau fellatio month" at the film forum, and last night they had a double feature of 'the last laugh' and 'nosferatu'. i was not terrribly impressed with either. great visuals, especially 'the last laugh', but murnau has this really strange, overbearing sense of drama that i can't get over. he dwells on the dramatic moments for so long, and allows so little to actually happen and coalesce in his movies that i get lost and stop caring, and the melodrama bordered on self-parody. the audience was tittering on-and-off throughout most of 'nosferatu' ("the ship of death had a new captain!").

Problems on the new "Graduate" movie

i find it funny that fritz lang, one of the most obsessively controlling directors ever, had no problem keeping his mouth shut when he acted in 'contempt', and kevin fucking costner is telling his director how to do set-ups.

a group of people from scion were offering free shit and a $15 gift certificate to the wuxtry if you test drive their car and fill out a survey. so i did that, and i got 'purple rain' for free. i kicked myself later for forgetting to pick up 'tonight's the night' (which i've wanted to get FOREVER but wasn't willing to spend the sixteen bucks for it), but i can't complain with my choice. the record seems pretty solid overall, and has lots of good stuff going on, but there's a LOT of 80s synth cheesiness to get over, and it sounds more like a relic of the decade's excess than a timeless poprockfunk masterpiece.
