"ray of light" sucked anyway. i thought "frozen" was much better.

last weekend i caught some of 'die hard 2' on tv, and there was this one obscenity-laced monologue bruce willis had that was completely changed around & didn't sound anywhere near the ballpark of what someone imitating bruce willis should sound like. it was surreal. i caught about 10 minutes of 'boogie nights' on fx, & i actually rather liked the way they handled the edits. they made no attempt at all to smooth anything out or cover anything up (cut the sound out on profanity instead of overdubbing, and when mark wahlberg rubs his dick through his underwear they just put a black bar on the screen). reminded me of the edited version of 'private parts', which was hysterical.

i think taker will tap to angle this year, but probably on a ppv rather than smackdown next week.

i love that match. you could argue that KOR was technically a better match, but i give the edge BARELY to this one because of the emotional impact. i remembered it being too short, but i went back & watched it again a while ago , and i was amazed at the kind of rollercoaster the match sends you through, it feels like this epic 25-minute match. those 2 just clicked in the ring, they fed off each other & just seemed to KNOW what they were doing next. their timing together was incredible, i think owen was the only person that bret clicked with better than hennig.

i don't really see the big deal about either one of them. wrestlemania was just typical 'shawn bumps around & works the leg' stuff (which austin isn't even selling by the end), and KOR was a lot of mat wrestling & safe spots that didn't really have a flow or go anywhere. austin & michaels just never got the chance to click together in the ring. even shawn admits that his knee was bothering him in 97 (as was austin's, i think), and he basically "gimped my way through the match," & shawn has a tendency to overrate his matches. it also speaks volumes that he was never happy with his performance at wrestlemania, when his back gave out on him and his objective became to just get through the match.

because rick astley's so much easier to make fun of.

it's no less plausible than spouting off the insanely cheesy lines of dialogue that 90% of the people in 90% of movies say. nor is it any less plausible than jackie chan fighting off 30 guys with a shopping cart, or arnold spouting off some line that's even more cheesy than most movies right before he blows up half the city of los angeles.

is miles davis good music to have sex to? i'd think it would be, particularly 'kind of blue', but i've never tried it.

what? we had grunge, alternative radio, 'forrest gump', 'pulp fiction', mst3k, whitewater, the lewinsky scandal, the oklahoma city bombing, newt gingrich, gangsta rap, singing monks, 'seinfeld'...we had plenty of stuff.

if the original you're working from is low quality, you can't up the quality by making a sharp copy of it. video just can't hold as much detail (i.e., sharpness & resolution) as a dvd can. it's not like the detail is somehow hidden in the video, waiting for the proper format to be unleashed--the extra detail is not there. your copy will never be better than the original.

shawn's overselling=problem taker selling nothing=not a problem. worked perfectly into taker's gimmick, and the fact that he was pissed about getting screwed out of the title. the idea of the match was shawn trying everything he possibly could to weasel out of his punishment, and NOTHING working. the sit-up after the sweet chin music was quite the thing to behold. taker's offense=don't remember anything really bad from him. got out so easily=what the hell are you talking about? how was that an easy way out? shawn assaulted a cameraman & had to make a run for it while they were trying to get him out. that's genius. and the gimmick was not rendered pointless by it. they used the cell about as well as it could be used. shawn was about as good as it gets at finding creative ways to utilize the gimmick of a match.
