  1. i haven't seen his ecw or japan stuff, so i'll limit the discussion to that, but: look at the people he's had good matches with: jeff hardy, chris jericho, eddie guerrero, chris benoit. this does not make him a good worker. rob van dam is good at what he does: doing flippy-floppy offense to pop the crowd, and take crazy bumps on his head. he had good matches with jeff hardy as a TLCâ„¢ freak occurence, because they were both willing to kill themselves. look at the remaining people: jericho, eddie, benoit. these are people who know how to build a match from someone else's strengths. van dam was blatantly carried by all these people. he did his thing when he was needed to, and let the other guy actually work the match. pay attention to the actual work he does in those matches: it isn't good. particularly the one with benoit, who basically drags him kicking & screaming through the whole thing. this is partly because benoit didn't really play to his strengths, but mostly because rob just didn't know what the fuck he was doing. when a wrestler is lost and fucking things up in one of his "good" matches, that should be a sign that maybe the other guy is holding the match together.
  2. i love early mariah carey, but i'd classify that more as pop. i must also affirm to the marvin gaye love. when i bring my guitar to parties and play "sexual healing," all the ladies in the house become my groupies.
  3. didn't "yer blues" already bring us together and make us realize that we're all lonely and want to die?
  4. top 5 saved on my kazaa for now: dick dale - "smoke on the water" led zeppelin - "achilles last stand" elvis costello - "i want you" mindless self indulgence - "faggot" radiohead - "everything in its right place"
  5. so you just don't like the happy stuff, do you.
  6. is this just song v. song on each album, or early career v. late career?
  7. because that would require things like reasons. which, in the wake of 'revolver' and 'abbey road', tend to kind of not exist. however, 'sgt pepper' is probably one of the most overrated album out there.
  8. dude, that was my dinner for thursday. squirmy little shit got away.
  9. the jacksons: an american dream? i love that thing. i was still in my MJ phase when it first came on ABC god knows how many years ago, and i had it on tape & would watch it over and over again. i still get a kick out of it when i see it now, even though i know it sucks.
  10. i used to have one, for a long time, over at open diary under "paperback writer." but around a year & a half ago i lost interest & just let it get deleted. it's a shame, cause i had some good stuff in there.
  11. Morrison and Lennon maybe. Hendrix wasn't a genius. was too.

    the GRE

so i just started my senior year of college, and to get into the grad schools i want, i gotta take the GRE. so, i'm basically just looking for some advice from those who have already gone through the process: when should i schedule myself to take it--mid-fall? as early as possible? how important are the scores to grad schools (based on personal experience)? do the kaplan courses help at all? are they worth the insane amount of money they charge?
  13. hendrix and lennon WERE geniuses.
  14. elvis costello - "i want you" this shit is AWESOME.
  15. the best stuff from 'invincible' is better than what i've heard from janet in the last few years.
  16. john coltrane - 'blue train'
  17. Trimming is definitely important for men and women! Who wants to floss with some pubes? ECK! i would be honored to floss with your pubes.
  18. actually, eddie's had, by most counts: **** match with edge at unforgiven **** match with benoit at vengeance ****+ match with edge on smackdown **** 4-way match on smackdown **** tag match on smackdown v. team angle **** match with rob van dam at judgment day ****+ match with rob van dam on raw eddie's match with mysterio on smackdown last year was also better than angle's match with him at summerslam.
  19. i think eddie & benoit are about the same. their smark stock seems to go back and forth, depending on who has more to work with at the time. but until we get a guerrero/angle feud, i don't think it's quite fair to judge either way.
  20. the structure of the angle/benoit series was pretty ripe for great selling. just keep selling the body part after you're out of the submission hold, do fewer german suplexes and do them all-japan style (dropping the guy right on his head and taking longer time between the moves). the germans also allow for the very dramatic "sell while you're doing your own offensive move" angle, since they can sell the neck while they throw their suplexes & fly off the top rope and shit.
  21. I totally agree with you there. Plus you can't forget about the BEE GIRL. That totally puts them over the top. i want to go back in time and have sex with that bee girl.
  22. 'in utero' and 'unplugged in new york' are still better albums than anything pearl jam did. they're also better than what 95% of the rock community at large was doing at the time too.
  23. unless you're bret hart and you've already promised to give your boss a match that "no one will ever top." then you only need one. about the selling problem: does anyone in the wwf really have great selling now? benoit takes all the germans & gets into all the anklelocks, and i haven't seen eddie do any noticeably good long-term selling lately. anyone else think that they just tell everybody NOT to long-term sell?
  24. 'big' by a fuckin mile, baby. oh my god is he awesome in that. in general, i'm a much bigger fan of hanks when he does light stuff than dramatic stuff. not to say he doesn't do drama really really well, but his natural charm steers him more toward comedy.
  25. nothing wrong with that. i've been a film buff since i was about 13, i'm 21 now, and i didn't see 'the searchers' until about a year ago.
