This argument, used by many in this thread, could be used to fit any punishment for any crime. Let's say we make the penalty for jaywalking death by stoning... "Well, it's fucked up, but you know that's the penalty so if you jaywalk you have it coming."

Nobody is arguing that drunk driving isn't stupid. We're just arguing that the sentence for it shouldn't be years of coerced anal sex.

So, essentially, when we sentence someone to prison, today, we're sentencing them to a distinct possibility of repeated gang rape.

We have a major human rights disaster going on right this moment in prisons here in the United States. Now if this guy was a brutal murderer or a child molester, I wouldn't have all that much sympathy for him. But we have a lot of people in prison here for fucking weed. And they're being subjected to this shit.

Don't you hate it when countries poke their noses into other countries politics? Invading is one thing, but to go ahead and CRITICIZE a guy.... Saying that Al-Qaeda wants someone elected goes a little beyond criticism. And I'm not sure where this whole meme of Al-Qaeda <3 Democrats came from (although I would suspect talk radio) given that Al-Qaeda put out a press release before the '04 election expressly saying that they wanted Bush elected and that CIA analysis suggested that Bin Laden was trying to swing the election to Bush with the tape released before the election.

Thinking about this game makes me sad. How come games aren't good like this anymore? Am I just being nostalgic?

He is of Iranian ancestry, the grandson of a guy who worked for the Shah (who the US helped regain power in the 50s--he's the guy that got run out during the Revolution in the 70s). He's saying that if Bush attacks Iran, then it will set back any sort of modernization for decades. Iran has a huge population of young people who are seemingly open to liberal democracy, and they would be radicalized (against the West) by war with the US. Doesn't seem that complicated to me.

Is this the book about why people from certain areas of the world came to dominate the world? I've been watching the 3 part documentary and it's been pretty interesting. Yeah, that's the one.
