Writer assistant from Smackdown writes to Meltzer
RavishingRickRudo replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
Yes, which made my curiousity grow even more because it was so thin and simple. It's fucking wrestling, it doesn't require a dozen people to write it. Of course, when the head of creative is Stephanie McMahon, I imagine it's blown up so she can have something to do and subordinates to boss around. -
No, Keith Richards would have some sort of coolness attached to it. I imagine Steph was a big 21 Jump Street fan back in the day and is finally getting around to realizing her Johnny Depp fantasies in WWE Storyline form. Up next, What's Eating Carlito Cool, with Eugene as Artie.

Ok, we're talking about wrestling storylines, right? How can so much effort and so many people be responsible for so little? Ok, now to the serious stuff. Waylers? Wahlers? Wawahs? -

Yeah, Dan, RavishingRickRudo here, Washington Post. What the fuck does a writers assistant do? -
But it's part of current pop culture and with the sequel coming out the WWE clearly is looking ahead of the game. It's more Jack Sparrow than Steve The Pirate.

Jack Sparrow.

What I liked about Smackdown this week is that it had a lot more variety than RAW. The Tag Match between MnM and London/Spanky was a good lil match between the two which started off slow but started to pick up once the high spots did. I really liked the finish there as it took a spot you'd normally see in a tag match and combined it with the snap shot, pretty cleverly laid out. The cruiser match was a bit crap and I echo the "who's the heel" sentiment. Kid Kash looks so fucking sleazy, you'd think they'd be able to get something out of that. Helms is a different kind of sleaze, but the sleaze is still there. Why these two guys aren't competing for the drink of a girl which will end up getting some GHB in it, I'll never know. What made this cruiserweight match different from a heavyweight match I'll never know either. I liked the four way, though I will admit to not giving my full attention to it. Benoit and Bradshaw worked very well together in this and they need to get the belt on Benoit ASAP so him and Bradshaw can have a lame excuse to feud over it (my favourite: Bradshaw is upset that a Canadian has the US title). Fuck, did Bradshaws elbow drops look nice tonight. Plus he did one off the second rope which I right marked for. Him selling for Lashley was inspired in getting over Lashley... though it doesn't help that he reacted the exact same way to the Boogerman. FINLAY is pretty much the reason I am even entertaining the thought of watching Smackdown. God I am loving his matches. If they'd tune down on the Irish gimmick and rev up the Ass Stomper gimmick, I'd enjoy it a lot more. I mean, c'mon, a fucking Shillelagh?

Taker/Henry started GREAT. Taker bumped for Henrys typically shite offense so well that it looked good. It started to die after the first few minutes, though, because there wasn't really anything to sustain it beyond "Henry beats up Taker, Taker beats up Henry" plus when it's Taker doing the majority of the running around, the match pace tends to slow. Overall, though, if they gave it more of a story and let it go 13 minutes, I'd say that Henry/Taker could be Takers best Mania match... yes, even better than Taker vs. A-Train/Big Show... To me, the perfect WM match between the two would have it starting off with Taker and Henry slugging it out in the middle of the ring, punching each other in the face with Henry getting the better of it, and the finish would be a Taker bodyshot. The story would be Taker is unable to beat Henry by hitting him in the head (even a tombstone near-fall, which would have the audience going), but working the body is an entirely different thing. Taker can watch his Gomi tapes and get some inspiration.

HHH could have a "talk" with Shelton before the match and remind him what Big Show did.

And of course it had to get worse
RavishingRickRudo replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
Considering these were the individuals who participated in the horrid storyline with Reys son, it does not surprise me at all that they'd be willing to do this. They're whores. Which again doesn't surprise me because this is wrestling and Eddie and Rey are wrestlers. It's not like they'd attract the highest quality of women. -
"Ok, that's it, cut off his mic... you can still hear him?? Ok, cut off my mic too" Colbert calling O'Rielly "Papa Bear" is prob my favouritest things.

Oh shit, if Randy were to plant a kiss on Eddies wife and reveal that he has been banging her, that would be the greatest fucking heel move ever. Him trying to get the kids to call him Papi would get n-u-c-l-e-a-r heat. Do it up. -
Whomever is the agent for these TKO fighters must be makin more than the fighters themselves.
-
Oddly enough, all he said was "hello" in a right-proper English accent.

If one didn't care about the logic at all, where does one draw the line? The line is drawn by whether or not it works for the fans. If this absurd move gets a reaction and doesn't kill the rest of the match, it's a success and had clearly had a place. You are free to not like it or it's place in the match, but I think it would be hard to deny its effectiveness. When Hogan hulked up, it worked. It wasn't the wrong thing to do in a match, because the fans went nuts for it on a consistent basis. It may have hurt the selling, but then again, what is sellings purpose in a match? To get the fans into it? No selling can serve the same function and gets to the same ends.

A question that begs to be asked
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Tito's *dig a grave and bury them* celebration is a favourite of mine. Just because it was so intricate. *digs hole will shovel* *drags body into hole* *covers hole with dirt, spreading it out nicely* *stomps on grave* Krazy Horses post fight celebration after his Bushido 7 fight was fucking great too. -
I haven't seen a bad Dirte fight, so he'll definitely push the pace to Marquardt, and that's all a fight really needs. When two fighters decide not to fight like Nate and Ivan did, you get shitty fights. I don't think you'll get that with Doerkson in there. Also added: Mike "Quick" Swick vs. Stephane "Simba" Vigneault AWESOME~!

UFC 59 already SOLD OUT?
RavishingRickRudo replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
The show is going to be called "Reality Check" which is pretty clever, and I guess it's not totally sold out as UFC posted on their website that there are a few seats remaining. -
Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin headlines the big event in California at the Arrowhead Pond and the bottom line is the fans in California have spoken- UFC 59 in Anaheim has already sold out!! Remember the fastest selling UFC ever was UFC 57 this past weekend which sold out in five weeks. UFC 59 sold out in less than five days. That’s right if you are keeping track at home the single tickets you may or may not be able to buy as of this column, actually sold out in THREE DAYS. From five weeks to three days is mind boggling. - MMAWeekly via Thefightnetwork

The interviews on the Daily Show are better because they don't have to conform to a gimmick like Colberts do. On the Report the interviews (both in studio and w/ congress) have the same theme because it's Colbert doing both, whereas the Daily Show has straight-man John Stewart doing studio interviews and one of his lackys in the field. The socratic irony on the Daily Show, IMO, is better than on Colbert (though when Colbert was on the DS, no one did it better). There are less limits on the daily show so they can go to more places, comedy-wise, than Colbert. The Daily Show has rebounded quite well after losing several of their correspondents. Ed Helms has developed quite nicely over the past few months (the Taint bit he did a few weeks ago was sublime, esp. when he ended it with the shocker reference) and I don't think you could say he's a copy of either Stev(ph)ens. Cordy and Jones are more along those lines (Cordy being Steve, Jones being Stephen), but both are still tremendously funny (Jones lays the smarm on way more than Colbert, which is quite the accomplishment, though doesn't have the same sort of charm a lil bear does). Nate Cordry is hilarious whenever he's on and the only real fault would be Bakkedahl. Of course, humour is subjective, but I tend to think Daily Show is more consistent than the Report because of their format. Don't get me wrong, the Report is often funny and when it's at its best there are few things better, but overall DS takes it for me.

Tonight was especially funny with Colbert breaking down after the William H Macy stuff. I like Daily Show more, though.

Wrestling, by it's very definition, is illogical. A bodyslam is illogical. A piledriver is illogical. A tiger driver is illogical. But all these things exist because of what you label "spectacle". A punch in wrestling, both throwing it and selling it, is a spectacle. "Ideally" wrestling should get the crowd into it and feeling like they got their money worth and make them willing to pay again. If the crowd reacts to a spot, it is done for a reason and served its function.
-
I call it a spectacle when the match is lacking logic and is instead just a bunch of spots done to pop the crowd. Isn't this the exact definition and purpose of professional wrestling?

RavishingRickRudo replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
I don't understand the point of this. If they explicitly use the death of a brother, then of course it is exploitation. The question about the Orton thing isn't really about exploitation, though. The WWE is most certainly exploiting Eddies death and has been for months, that's not the debate. The debate is whether or not they are doing it in good taste, and the level of acceptibility and consciousness and consideration that is surrounding the use of Eddies name after death. A lot of what the WWE is doing is in bad taste (pretty much everything the WWE does is in bad taste). And then there is the other question of whether or not Eddie would have "wanted it". You can't really answer that last question, but there are significant points that say Eddie wouldn't have liked someone saying he was in hell. On WOL someone made the point (I believe it was Konnan) that to say Eddie Guerrero is in hell is particularly heinous because Eddie was a proud Christian and believer in God. Here is a guy who, by many accounts, would go around and talk issues of faith with others and tried to put a positive light on things, esp. in regards to the lord. Do you think a guy that was such a proud Christian would like someone else saying he was in hell? Also, Konnan talked about how after Art Barrs death someone wanted to include it in part of a storyline or match or something, and Eddie was part in saying "No". These two things especially would suggest that there is a certain amount of disrepect being done to the name of Eddie Guerrero. Now, I don't really mind. I'm not personally offended cause the dude is dead and has more things to worry about than that. But there is no doubt what the WWE is doing is exploitative and more importantly is done in bad taste. Is your "just a thought" in anyway related to that? -

Wow, that's amazing. Stunning, even. WWE Writers have assistants?? What the fuck for?
