UFC 87 - Seek and Destroy

All I will say is there is a HUGE difference between fight cardio and every other kind of imaginary "natural" cardio out there. The only thing Fitch has going for him against GSP is that he doesn't fold, and might even get stronger as the fight goes on. As long as GSP keeps the riddum going, it should be an easy night for him.

When was the last time BJ actually had to use his guard? It's so difficult to actually takedown BJ, especially a motivated BJ that actually is training. You could honestly tell me with a straight face that the BJ who GSP was able to takedown, is the BJ of now? GSP might be able to takedown BJ, but it's going to be a lot more harder now that BJ is actually hungry and motivated to be the best in the world. GSP has taken down some of MMA's best wrestlers _ever_. Motivated or not, BJ Penn isn't a NCAA National champion. You can argue other points all you want and however you want, but using "motivation" isn't going to make BJ a better wrestler than Matt Hughes, Sean Sherk, Frank Trigg, or Josh Koscheck... all of whom GSP took the fuck to the mat.

How is Brocks cardio not an issue? The dude has fought a total of, like, 3 minutes.

Penn has some of the best BJJ in MMA; wouldn't that somewhat neutralize GSP's ground and pound if he has to watch out for subs? I know it was quite a while ago, but Hughes subbed GSP, and B.J. is top-notch in that department. Chances are, he probably won't sub him, but still... BJ is more of an offensive JJ guy, though. Not saying he doesn't have skills off his back, but I can't recall a single time he subbed someone from guard in MMA. A guard game is totally different and easier to counter if you know what to look for, and GSP should at this stage of his career. GSP is good enough to avoid what BJ throws at him, and strong enough to hold him down. Points, Points, Points. Hughes tapped George when Rush was on his back, so if you made the argument that BJ could take GSP down and tap him, then you would have something, but the likelihood of that is slim.

UFC 88: Breakthrough - Liddell vs. Evans

Franklin uses angles and picks his shots whereas Hamill is very flat-footed and uses little lateral movement. I see Ace picking Hamill apart and busting him up bad.

I base it on the fact that GSP has taken down everyone he has tried to take down.

GSP can take Penn down. GSP can hold Penn down. It doesn't matter whether or not Penn is better, more skilled, more talented, than GSP. Rush has the trump card in his wrestling and GnP. It's like saying a country has a better army, navy, and air force than the country that has nuclear weapons.

I generally hated the commentary, but BJM was great. That dude is a great asset.

    The Dark Knight

Harry from AICN brought up a really good point in his review in saying that Gary Oldman is completely invisible in this movie. As someone who was watching the Fifth Element the day before seeing TDK, I cannot believe that is the same person playing both roles. He was completely lost in it. Also, the scene with

This worked out really, really well. The shows didn't overlap that much, and when they did, it was during fights I didn't really care about.

Awesome. Went forever, though. Just when I thought they were going to wrap things up.... another hour....

    UFN - Silva vs. Irvin

I saw the first 20 minutes of the Countdown and thought it to be surprisingly good. So much better than Afflictions countdown show. It would be dope if Anderson were able to keep the weight on and still maintain his speed.

He probably weighs the same in both pictures and the only difference is the lighting.

Can someone provide me with an answer as to why 20 pounds between 185 and 205 is significant but 20 pounds between 205 and 225 isn't? For that matter, why Heavyweight should have a 60 pound buffer while all other divisions don't?

I don't think direct competition is all that healthy for the UFC. They've shown that they tend to listen to criticism about their product - for example, they haven't shown entrances when they air prelims for the past few shows after there was a stink after that one show (whatever it was). Also, showing prelims for free on their website is another great move. In terms of production, their countdown shows have improved after people were saying they were getting stale. For the most part, they are still listening to fan response. They also see other sports as being competition, so it's not like they have a false sense of security. My main issue is their PPV charges, if other shows had frequent PPV's at a lower price that attracted higher demand, it would force the UFC to respond in-kind. But that's not going to happen, because there isn't a company out there that can do that. Especially ones that have huge payrolls and feed into fighters' ridiculous pay demands.

You don't have to introduce me to Mauro, but just let me have 2 minutes alone with him and I'll beat the awful alliteration out of him. Unneeded pretentious adjectively.

I'm never going to complain about having free cards. Though the idea of having this as competition to Affliction is laughable. There's no way they DON'T lose their shirt on this one, so Dana has nothing to worry about - they'll be out of money before the show is over.

Sato vs. Buakaw was fucking tits. The second round was masturbation material. I dunno what happened but Bua was listless in the third and dropped his hands way low. Was it the pace, the body shots or both that did it?

    Wall-E

I echo the Loved It sentiment. I would say the message was more relying on technology than consumerism. That maybe what we think helps us is really hurting us by making us less self-reliant - which is the inverse of WallE who ended up being totally self-reliant, though both ends were lonely and together found a middle ground. I loved it when the Captain, and the fat chick and dude ended up discovering the simpler things that they never noticed before. Great character work and it was a GORGEOUS movie. The score was also tops. I had a smile on my face for the vast majority of the flick.
