It's kinda hard to say Diaz/Sanchez was predictable when the majority of people thought Diaz would take it.

Shouldn't Tim Daly be in this?

What fighters are you digging right now?

UFC should make a deal with K-1. K-1 fighters on UFC shows, UFC fighters on K-1 shows.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

As much as I like Hansen and think he's awesome, I think Kawajiri is too strong and will be able to out muscle him and avoid subs for the decision.

Fedor Emelianenko: The smartest fighter on the planet. There are guys like Kevin Randleman who have all the physical tools, but for some reason can't put it together and live up to their natural potential. Fedor isn't like that. Look at Fedor. His physique isn't anything impressive. He's not ripped like a lot of fighters are nowadays, yet he is able to go 20 minutes at an insane pace. The reason? His training. The guy runs forever to make sure he can outwork the guy across the ring from him. He doesn't spend time in the gym living weights and getting cut, the way he builds strength is by sparring a lot. He's practical, efficient. Watching him fight is like watching a How To Compete tape on MMA. Plus he's very well rounded. Strong grappling, striking, conditioning, and defense. Georges St. Pierre: The guy is damn near close to perfect. It's like the Canadian Government took the money they should be spending on Defense and put it towards creating GSP, with the assumption that he take on any attackers and defeat them with ease. Bring it on, world. You ain't got shit on Rush. Shogun: He's like Wanderlei Silva, but with better wrestling, submissions and ground, more aggression, and diverse striking. So yeah... Fighter of the Year in 2005, with quite possibly the most dominant year in MMA history. Honourable Mentions: Hansen - I haven't seen a bad fight out of him yet. The guy just doesn't give a fuck. Great skills. Gomi - Great hands, and he comes right atcha. I dig that. Hits so hard. Franklin - I've been a fan once I saw him in the UFC for the first time against Tanner, and the guy is good. Well duh. I don't know if he's the top guy at 185, but then again, I don't think we've seen his best yet. Hendo - C'mon, he's Hendo. He's always on the list.

The chokeslam from Cope was uber-sweet. Is that legal? I was kinda disappointed in Cope, I really wanted to see a high level muay thai guy throw some leg kicks and shit in the octagon, and he didnt really deliver.

    Vince isn't happy with Coach

Coach, in my view, was the main reason Eugene got over as he did. That, as I can recall, was the only good thing he did.

I think ROH would pay Benoit more than they would the Dudleys.

    TNA Thursday night special rating

Wrestling is a visual medium. When Billy Gunn is one of the biggest guys you have, and since a significant porton of wrestling fans have been conditioned to accept big guys as wrestlers, that the big muscles = polish and professionalism, then that poses a problem for TNA. Does anyone think that Jeff Jarrett could take Batista? Or that AJ Styles could take John Cena? This may not be particularly relevant in the conscious sense, but subconsciously its in a persons head. The 6 sided ring, especially with someone accustomed to the WWE ring (which often has rope running), is disorienting for someone seeing it for the first time. And TNA is just a silly name. "Hey, what are you watching?" "uummm...Teee...NA?" It sorta helps word of mouth if you don't feel ashamed saying the promotions name to others. But like I said before, these are problems that time can fix. People can become adjusted to the smaller wrestlers, the 6 sided ring, and TNA can become the name of a wrestling promotion rather than Tits and Ass. But to label cosmetic issues in professional wrestling as being "stupid" is ignoring a big part of professional wrestling.

Check Out A Picture Of The Dicks!

They could at least have Rosie join them in an homage to the Chris Farley/Patrick Swayze skit from SNL.

Sadly, the two teams mentioned before were more homoerotic than a team named "The Dicks".

Benoit's contract up in 3 weeks

I was going to mention Benoit vs. Brock, which would be big money for Benoit in NJPW, but I don't think money is necessarily the issue here. Benoit doesn't wrestle for money, he wrestles cause he loves it. The contract they offered him wouldn't really bother him on the financial level (it would, of course, have am effect, but I don't think it's the real issue), but as a commentary on how they think of him and see his efforts and worth to the company - it's a slap in the face.

Benoit's contract up in 3 weeks

But _why_ Benoit left WCW for the WWE wasn't because WWE had higher ratings, or because WWE offered him more money, or because the buyrates were bigger, or because of the marketing. I have never heard that from him, and I didn't hear it from him at the time. He left because he was unhappy. He wasn't unhappy because they weren't paying him enough. He wasn't unhappy because the ratings or buyrates were low. He was unhappy because no matter how hard he worked, there were guys who were pushed ahead of him who didn't work nearly as hard. He hated the politics. He hated not having a purpose. He hated getting jerked around. He hated the fake promises. He hated the backstage atmosphere. When I hear comparisons between the WWE locker room and TNA locker room, it sounds very much like how Benoit described the difference between the WCW locker room and the WCW locker room. Whether or not _Benoit_ feels that way needs to be seen.

Benoit's contract up in 3 weeks

Benoit was also unhappy in WCW for a while and put up with it, so who knows how long he can last in the WWE. If Benoit sees the similarities that a lot of us see in the WWE now with WCW then, will he want to avoid having to go through that again, or will he stick it out? I can't say. My gut tells me he'll stick with the WWE, but I can't say for sure. I hope he leaves, though.

Benoit's contract up in 3 weeks

WCW probably offered him more money than the WWE plus a run with the title, Benoit was still unhappy there and left when he got the chance. The question is whether or not Benoit is unhappy in the WWE.

    TNA Thursday night special rating

I think that the ring, the size of the wrestlers, and the name _are_ problems, but there are much more fundamental problems that need to be addressed, whereas these are minor ones, all of which tend to go away with time.

Yeah, and that all their PPV names are sexual in nature is just a coincidence too? BOUND FOR GLORY - for all the SnM freaks out there (you know who you are, DAMES!). HARD Justice - for all you gay, cop and cowboy lovin, homolovers (you know who you are, DAMES!) GENESIS - is there a sexier band than Genesis, especially back when they had Peter Gabriel on vocals and Phil Collins on drums? Genesis fans can vouch (you know who you are, DOWNHOME).

She's a knockout. It's kinda hard to say anything about the WWE and their attitudes towards women when the name of the company you work for is called TNA.

STUPID?! Why I never... Gail probably just likes riding around in the limos and whatnot. Wearing the jewellery. Lookin all pretty-like. When Jeff won, her sugar-daddy was back. Have they actually explained why Gail is with Jeff?

    OAO Impact Special Thread

I did like Gail Kim going right in and hugging JJ while he was on his knees. Gail seemed genuinely happy that he won. It was more like she won. I could almost buy JJ as champ if he had the right people around him treating him the right way. Which is to say, everyone is using JJ for their own purposes and is more of a puppet than anything else. The only reason he is in power is because they each believe they can take him down, and its a matter of the right timing. You know those action movies where there is the rich financial backer who hires the evil ex military guy to help steal something or blow something up, and the rich backer ends up usually getting betrayed by the evil ex military guy where it is revealed that the power he (rich guy) held was merely that which was allowed to him by the guys who had the real power? Yeah, JJ should totally be the rich backer. Everyone plays nice for him, but really couldn't give a shit.
