To me, it's either Royce is high up there, or he's not there at all. There are more guys who have more wins over better (ranked) opposition than he did at the time; there are also very few guys who have impacted the sport more. -

Royce Gracie being considered a top fighter is not based on anything other than 2 things: Dominance at the time, and Impact on the Sport. You can't really rationalize beyond that. If that is not in your criteria, then Royce doesn't rank. If it is, then Royce has to be ranked high. Fact is, Royce wasn't one of the best in BJJ at the time, let alone MMA, but it doesn't change how he fared in the ring or the influence his dominance had. Yes, Royce had shit opponents, but you can't really go back in time to have him fight GSP or Anderson Silva or Fedor. He beat guys who were strong in their relative sport, which was -at the time- the whole point of UFC. There are different standards today, a different approach taken, and I don't think it is fair to take away Royces' accomplishments because of that difference. You can talk about how Royce didn't evolve with MMA, but Royce also was the one who forced the evolution in MMA. Which do you think is more important, guys who change with the game or guys who change the game? -

If Royce doesn't make top 3, Randy doesn't. Randys record is not nearly good enough. -
You can use Sawyers death as motivation for characters, the significance of an event, or the build up of some other character. So it as a season finale point to be used to kick off the next turn of events would be a good use of a characters death. They could kill him off in an Edgar-esque way with him just saying "Freckles?" and then being gassed while Kate looks on behind a glass wall.

I also liked Jacks heartbreak when he is told they weren't planning on saving the castaways. It seems like he is the only one who is still focused on leaving the island.

Cuz the smoke monster is racist? That last episode was BADASS. If it turns out that Ben had already experienced this a few times through time travel, that would explain how he is able to preternaturally manipulate people and events - which has been to this point an annoying character trait. Jack being sick, I think, is more of a way to keep him on the sidelines so they can focus on other characters. He still holds the title of King of Island. Bernard calling shenanigans on the Morse code was great. Sayid and Bens World Tour of Revenge is fine motivation, even though it would have been nice to have seen Sayid finally get the girl, so we could better experience his loss. It's something that Joss Whedon would have given us, dammit. We need to get Jin on this team of hitmen. Sawyer stepping up and looking out for Claire and Hurley was an interesting touch. Much more selfless than usual. Which doesn't look good for James.

That RESPECT!! line had me legit breaking down with laughter. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre 2
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
It was funny to see fighters go around our section, looking for a place to sit to watch a certain fight. Herman, Follis, MacDonald, all found spots. Herring was around the area too, just chillin and takin photos. Crow and Claveau were around. Also, I was shocked at how long Dana spent with fans after the QnA. Also, GSP throwing knees to the body was a great strategy against a guy who was coming off a back injury. Rush saying he had to "make it physical" was apt. -
UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre 2
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Awesome, awesome, awesome, show. I don't think TV could do the reaction GSP got justice. Everyone was standing on their feet throughout the fight, nobody was sitting. We all went ape-shit for every single fucking thing GSP did. Some notes on the prelims... - Stout/Clementi was really good. Sam tried hard to avoid the takedown and did well to stifle Clementis attacks on the ground. But it seemed like all of his effort was concentrated on doing that, and when they were standing he didn't pull the trigger until it was too late. If it went extra rounds, he probably could have won it cause he was hurting Clementi at the end and almost at will. However, before that, Clementi was easily winning the standing exchanges, mixing his punches up and using some nice head movement. - Cain/Morris was basically a one-sided fight. Nothing really to say beyond that. - MacDonald/Doerkson was nuts. First MacDonald had Joe in a choke that had people going "oh shit!" and then Doerkson did his best attempts to take MacDonalds arm home with him (How the fuck did Jason not tap?). Then MacDonald just went house on Joes head in the second round when he got side. How the fuck did Meltzer score the first for MacDonald? - Herman/Maia had me stroking one off. Jesus fuck does Maia have pretty ground game. He worked VERY hard for the takedown early on, and then as the fight progressed he would just pull guard off a failed single. Very slick stuff, had Eddie on the defensive for much of the first, but I was worried at the end that Maia gassed himself out. The triangle finish is probably one of the highlights of the show, imo. God. Damn. - I thought, when he fought Kalib, Belcher was just posturing when he would take those shots and not throw anything back. Turns out the dude just doesn't know how to counter-punch or defend punches. How the fuck could he lose to Dooms Day? God dammit, Belcher. -
UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre 2

LOTC and I had a bet to see how many people would be wearing Affliction tees between the bar we were drinking at and a local HMV. I guessed 15 first and LOTC guessed 17. Cause he's a sonnnoabitch like that. The HMV was 3 blocks away. LOTC won, exactly. This city has been infested by that brand. I can't believe there are so many people representing in the city. It is legitimately like there is a major event going on and people have traveled to the city for it. Which has been the case, from what I have seen and heard. People from Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Alberta, etc. are all flocking to the city for this event. I didn't know it carried such an international cache. This is a big show. I am shocked. I think the majority of the people watching the fights are NOT from Montreal. -

GSP said that he will mess Serra up. THAT'S IT. IT'S OVER. I had some doubt in my mind. No doubt now. Give it the rubber fucking stamp. -
To be fair, you probably watched YAMMA before TNA and therefore TNA seemed like ice cream sundae in a waffle bowl in comparison.

... Our train gets in at 11:45, the hotel, station, and bell centre are all within close proximity. Plus, it's a "doors open" thing, not a start time thing. I'm not worried. -

Do other people get excited for live events in their town, or are we just retarded? If we are, then where's the fucking short bus cause WHOOO HOOO! ONE WEEK! BTW, LOTC, if you haven't checked out the fan club site, it has some details on the weigh in and QnA. Look under "events". -
